TIE's were the primary defence weapon in cannon. I would not limit them to Star Destroyers. Just my opinion, of course.


In Episode IV the following explained the Tie Fighters....

Luke: It followed us!
Ben: No. It's a short range fighter.
Han: There aren't any bases around here. Where did it come from?
Ben: A fighter that size couldn't get this deep into space on its own.

Darth Vaders Tie Fighter however did have hyperdrive.

Battles between the X-Wings and Tie Fighters are a big part of the mod so the Tie Fighter may be an upgraded mod which has hyperdrive.

I may have the initial Tie Fighters without hyperdrive until research allows them to travel to other systems.

Test of Death Star at Maximum size setting.....

Used the Editor to place the Death Star and a Star Destroyer into a system.
Watched as both the Death Star and Star Destroyer both went into hyperspace and headed towards the same planet.
As the Death Star moved through hyperspace you can see the Death Star on the map as a picture.

Very cool. I will need to slow it down once hyperdrive engines are in the mod.
Next thing after fixing the speed is to boost the shields and firepower.

In the picture below the larger Star Destroyer is the one that traveled through hyperspace with the Death Star.

I will also look at whether there is an even higher resolution picture for the Death Star needed at this size.

Another look for the Death Star........

The updated Death Star will be available in a patch update with other ships from other races included as well......

Vader had a unique design. TIEs were short ranged fighters. This was the difference between the 2 sides. Rebellion had small, nimble fighters that could go anywhere. Empire had the big cruisers. There is a discussion about it in one of the books that came out about 10 years ago, but I don't have time to research it.

That is correct.... which is why I was looking at how the Tie Fighters would move into the systems in my mod if they had no hyperdrives..... they would need to be based on the Death Star or a Star Destroyer.

The Death Star is now correctly classified as a Battle Station as seen at the top and bottom of this picture.

A lot of time goes into adding ships into the mod...... at this stage I have 321 ships I am looking at which is roughly 6 ships for each race in the mod, some of the ships will just never make it into the mod.

How will the Confederacy of Independent Systems appear in this mod when they were wiped out by the Empire after Episode III?

At the end of the Clone Wars and after the Jedi had been purged, systems aligned with the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Seperatists were forcibly occupied by the Empire.

Worlds still loyal to the Confederacy became targets of the Empire.

Like the Jedi, survivors of the Confederacy went into hiding from where they watched the Empire's progress with dissatisfaction , many joining pirate organisations along with their battle droids.

In the picture below (concept art) I have two Providence-class Dreadnoughts used by the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

The first one with a red tick was a failure I had worked on for 30 minutes and was replaced with the much better looking Dreadnought with the green tick.

Each of the 321 ships need to have a particular look before they are added to the mod and most will need extensive work in photoshop.

It is likely when ships for a race are completed they will be pushed out as a download in a small patch.

19 years after the Clone Wars ended, a lone Tie Fighter discovers a Droid Control Ship has arrived in the Coruscant System.

I have added a small update, patch number 14, to page one.

The Last Jedi was released 10 days ago and I finally managed to get some free time to to watch it last night at 10:45pm.... finished a few hours ago at 1:30am.

After seeing the movie I have pushed out a quick patch to add 2 new races to the mod....these 2 races replacing two other races which now no longer make any sense having in the mod after watching The Last Jedi.

Character killed and then dismissed for being extremely grumpy.

One screen which bugs me in Vanilla Distant Worlds Universe is the screen which appears as shown in the image on the left of the picture below.

Sabrine Wren killed!
The screen then states that Sabrine Wren has been dismissed for incompetence and extreme grumpiness.
This never made sense to me.

In this mod I have fixed this with different screens showing depending on which race you play.

On the right of the picture below, playing as the Rebel Alliance, Sabrine Wren was killed, is not grumpy and had been on a secret mission investigating reports of the Empire's secret new weapon.

Will be added to the next patch.

There have been many changes to the mod over the last week and rather than have several patches I am going to have these released sometime in the coming weeks as alpha version 1.0

Changes include

- introduction of ancient Jedi Temples
- Resized ships
- More characters
- improved dialog
- changes to the user interface

In the picture below the explosion is taken from Episode IV and the X-Wing shown in the picture is replaced by a Tie-Fighter or other ship depending on which race you are playing.

To resolve this issue I have created the mod file again as it may have been one of the 14 patch files that introduced an error. Trying to resolve the issue ended up with the mod asking me for image files for race 53 which I did not have.

The mod file contains all my work on the mod up to yesterday morning which includes new textures for Rebel ships.

Pirates are coming to the mod and I have started creating the graphics for them.
Looking at adding between 12 and 14 different pirates you will encounter.

Another picture I created for the mod shows the Bravaisian pirates who are known to hang out with Maz Kanata.

Maz Kanata, Pirate Queen of Takodana was introduced in The Force Awakens but she has been around 967 years before Episode IV took place.

Maz was well known for dealing with and working with smugglers and pirates, which is how she met Han Solo, and she was a thorn in the side of the Empire and when the Empire took too much interest in her after Episode IV occoured Maz Kanata organized strikes against selected Imperial targets on six worlds: Tatooine, Dandoran, Er'Kit, Hoth, Yavin 4, and her home of Takodana.

Maz Kanata and various pirate groups hat were around during Episode IV will be added to the mod working against or with the Empire.

A statue of Maz Kanata was seen in Anakin Skywalkers home in Episode I.

In the mod you will also meet a pirate known as The Crimson Corsair who has earned a reputation as the best pirate in the Outer Rim territories.

15 pirates finished and added to the mod. If you play in standard mode these pirates will not be available to play unless you play in pirate mode.

Tomorrow the 51 races I began with will be flagged as not capable of having pirates.

This brings the total of Star Wars races in the mod to 67 with Boba Fett added as a Bounty Hunter pirate tomorrow..

Will be included in the next update.

I had forgotten to include Maz Kanata as the Pirate Queen as she was during Episode IV so she is race #68 in the mod.
