Naval Battle of Balikpapan.
I’d spotted a build of up light surface units, and dispatched a Cruiser/Destroyer force to wreak havoc upon undefended transports. Much to my chagrin, an IJN DesRon of 6 DDs is patrolling the area. Their job was to block, and block hard. A wild ruckus ensued.
The IJN force successfully repelled the UK/US force attempt to penetrate the harbor. It was a tactical Allied victory, but a strategic defeat. The IJN forced did what it was supposed to do, losing 4 out of 6 of its number. Allied losses were one cruiser, with another shot up and a DD shot up.

RE: March 1942 Continues
Hi, Well I moved into northern islands to get Allied reaction. After the first BB vist I moved Hiryu and Soryu up to wait for the next vist. (There is always a next vist)
I had them south of Attu and they were spotted by enemy patrol plane. But no CV were reported I guess. I had the TF on slow speed because speed over 20k always mean warships. After the TF was spoted I moved it north between Attu and Dutch Harbor and moved an actual transport TF to the location the CV had been spotted. Then I landed on nearby island just to remove any doubt Dadman might have. Soon after the BB came into range.

March 1942 Summary
With the fall of Singapore and the rest of the Maylay Penninsula (along with 2 foolishly lost battleships), the score swings wildly in favor of Mogami. Here are the basic numbers:
SCORE
Japan: 11,538
Allies: 7,354
SHIPS/POINTS
Japan-106/1,720
(2 CV, 3 CVL, 1 CS, 20+ DD, more than 25 AP/AK/TK/AO)
Allied- 125/1527
(1CV, 4 BB, 2 CA, 4 CL, 25+ DD, many AP/AK/TK/AO)
AIRCRAFT POINTS
Japan- 1064
Allies- 1413
TROOP LOSSES
Japan- 214
Allies- 5192
BASES CONTROLLED/POINTS
Japan- 252/2831
Allies- 196/4366
It has been bloody and costly, moreso I think than it was in real life, due to my more vigorous defense (or reckless operations, you choose). I have some bad habits to break, and I don't see that happening anytime soon.
Carriers are hiding, as I am still outnumbered.
*Saratoga is severely crippled. She will be out of the war at least 18 months.
*Lexington will be tied up 6-9 months with her repairs thanks to the Betty/Nell bombers at AmBONia.
Mogami is still able to call the tunes as he will be for the next 9 months I suspect.
Manila and Clark Field will fall in April; Bataan could last through May. Palembang and Soerbaja will fall in either late April or May.
