A series of nada-turns.

We continue with training the fighters up in the PI and with capturing the remaining southern and central points within the PI.

In the Marshalls we have the BC force and the 4x14" BB force lurking near Eniwetok. We have the 3x16" BBs now departing Saipan, heading for a rendevous with the other 2 dreadnought forces. If the USN show up soon ( before we have to return ) then we will have a dreadnought battle.

Otherwise the minelaying in the Marshalls continues, Eniwetok is at 2400 and Wotje is at 2100. Two additional ML have been repaired and are departing the Home Is. for the Marshalls.

We have one cruiser/dd group at Eniwetok and an ODD group at Kwaj acting as surface defense. Also 1 each DD/ASW groups at Eni and Kwaj. A new Cruiser/dd group ( the final group ) is enroute from Palau to Truk. 1 OBB group is refitting at Truk, the other is refitting at Osaka. About one dozen SS are completing refit in Takao, all others are in vicinity of Marshalls though about 1.5 dozen are refitting at Kwaj.

Ah ... just when we thought is was safe ... 2 hints of activity to the East.

One USN DD group is proceeding East towards Eniwetok, the "standard" fare. Another USN DD bombards Mili Atoll, at the extreme Southern end of the Marshalls, which may portent a landing there. To date we have made no effort to defend Mili. This turn, we dispatched 1 SS to the place as token defense. Ultimately we know we cannot prevent the capture of the Marshalls, they are merely a delaying point. But we hope to buy time to improve our defense farther back.

False alarm. a couple more days of same o same o ... we had one DD torpedoed though she made it to Eni and will survive. USN had one sub hit a mine at Eni and sink the next turn ... That's the second sub killed by the Eni mine field ( now up to 4200+ ) ...

But I still am suspecting either another major bombardment of Eni ... or maybe a landing at Mili ... we have all three Dreadnought groups within one days sail of Eni now ... so for a while we are concentrated ( grp#1 = 4 BC/4 DD ... grp#2 = 4x14"BB/4 DD ... grp#3 = 3x16" BB/4 DD ... ) All AOs are there as well keeping the DDs topped off ...

Still pretty quiet ... I'd expect the USN to either try bombardment runs against Eniwetok or Kwajalein. Or perhaps a landing at Mili ... things have been TOO quiet ... so something should happen soon.

Trying to move the minelayers to Kwaj ... one tripped over a sub ... might survive if she can make it back to Eni this turn. We have 2 more ML enroute ( after undergoing repairs in Home Islands ) and total probably a couple of dozen ML conversions in hand, though those will not arrive until Dec 22 / Jan 23 time frame.

All of our dreadnoughts ( 11 total ) are concentrated in one hex just to the East of Eniwetok ... we will drift SE for a few turns. We can't stay out here forever, but if something comes now, we might be able to smack it before the USN realizes our full strength is at hand.

Nothing real exciting this turn except ... we see a DD/PC group headed for Eniwetok ... this could be the van of a big force ... or not ... we will redirect the dreadnoughts north to be closer to the action.

Yes something like, if you have ground troops adjacent AND have an air_sup number greater than zero in your favor, then there is a chance each turn of having adjacent dots ( and bases ) become owned by you ( if unoccupied by the enemy )..

False alarm. USN training bombardment at Maleolap.

SO our dreadnought will pull back to refuel the DDs .. don't wanna go into the main Marshalls ports to refuel the BBs because I don't want him to pick me up. Right now he might think the BBs he sees at Truk are the dreadnoughts. But eventually, I'll have to go gas up somewhere ... and Kwaj or Eni might actually be the safest due to the strength of the ASW there and if we're gonna show ourselves ... showing ourselves farther forward is probably better.

My subs are about half camping around the Marshalls being detectors for inbound US activities and half in refit ( some at Kwaj and some still at Takao ).

Fuchida's at Kwaj up to 73 exp ... many turns kwaj has no allied subs ... and none out to 2 hex range ... so his has mostly cleared the area. Most popular spot for US subs is still Eniwetok though we generally seem to be fairly safe in the Eniwetok hex itself ( i.e. within range of Avro's ) ... but will sure be nice to get some more Felixstowe squadrons .. and some are commin' soon !

More naval skirmishing without any major actions. A tanker gets hit by a sub at Wake; CA Kurama at Kwajalein.

Forces are being reorganized to (1) conserve fuel which is hard to come by halfway across the pacific (2) establish submarine screens to detect potential enemy attack through cutting off its supply; 4 SS will line up 240 miles northeast of Baker and 4 240 miles east of Midway (3) maximize output of fortifications on islands. PPs are spent on releasing engineer units and replacing submarine captains; an average IJN sub captain is 55/55, and the better ones available are 65/65. Every dot matters.

Three commerce raiders are initiated in Osaka; quite a score will follow. There isn't that much supply to ship from Singapore and such; APs and smaller AKs can take care of that, allowing all 5000-ton AKs to turn into destroyer killers: extra 5000 yards of range do matter.

(While mines are a welcome addition, it's the 20,000 yard range main batteries and depth charges that are treasured the most)
