No, not the Ise. I'll dive straight in with the third clue.

Which Ship am I? (all optional rules in play)

- I have a counter in WIF
- I was built between the wars but failed to survive WWII.
- I was designed as one type of ship but was soon modified and became another type.

I'll stay with the IJN; Akagi?

Skipjack is a good guess but not correct.

1a. I am named after a fish that is called by several names including: cisco, lake herring, chub, northern cisco. No, my name is not listed in there.

b. Hell, I don't know what else to add. Rhymes with sea?

2a. I'll give you the fish. Blackjack. Figure out the Spanish name and you'll get it.

1 and 2. Three syllables.

Note to self, don't get overly obscure![:o] Hard to come up with clues for these two as they aren't very well known except to a submariner like me.[;)]

Yeah I was thinking Lexington, Akagi or Kaga but with the clues given it could be a few ships.

I just want to clear up point two - built between the wars or rebuilt?  I just want to rule out a whole lot of ships!

Which Ship am I? (all optional rules in play)
Hope this 4th clue hasn't made it too easy...

- I have a counter in WIF
- I was built between the wars but failed to survive WWII.
- I was designed as one type of ship but was soon modified and became another type.
- Had my modification not taken place, then I would not have had a WIF counter until fairly recently. However, thanks to my update, I have had a counter since ADG introduced Ships In Flames.

How about the Mogami?  Has a counter, built between the wars (1934 launch), built as a light cruiser but was upgunned to a heavy cruiser giving a counter in Ship in Flames?

Is the right answer [:)]. The addition of Cruisers In Flames means light cruisers have their own counters too, not that it matters for the Mogamis which were made heavy cruisers and thus were catered for in Ships In Flames.

Answers for mine.

1. What two US submarines were confirmed to have sunk themselves?  USS Tang and USS Tullibee - it is quite possible there were others but the lack of survivors make it impossible to confirm

2. What US Submarine struck its target with 13 of 15 torpedoes (13 in a row) and failed to sink its target?  USS Tinosa - The (un)lucky target was the 19,000 ton tanker Tonan Maru 3 which had been crippled by Tinosa's first spread of four torpedoes (fired at a poor angle of attack) of which two hit aft destroying her ability to steam.  Tinosa moved to a perfect position directly abeam the tanker at point blank range.  Tinosa fired a single torpedo which struck but failed to explode.  Tinosa continued firing torpedoes one at a time, methodically, and each torpedo was calibrated and checked before firing.  All hit and all were duds, one even putting on a show, leaping into the air after striking and landing 100 ft away from the tanker.  Lt. Cmdr Daspit saved the last torpedo to take back to base to be checked.  Needless to say, upon his return, tests were ordered and the issue with the firing pin were found and solved.

IIRC the Tang's torpedo must have had a jammed rudder because it ran in a circle and came back to hit the sub.

Quite right, and the same for USS Tullibee. Mk 14's with the dreaded circular run issue. With USS Tang, I think nine of the crew survived and for USS Tullibee only Gunner's Mate C.W. Kuykendall survived to tell the tale.
