Turn 25. Sep/Oct 1943. Allied #7.
Weather.
D10(+0) = 4 -> fine weather across the globe continues.
Western Allied Impulse Objectives.
(1) Eliminated von Bock HQ-I & AA div while "minimizing" flips and if successful in both reduce chance of partisans in Italy from around 14% to 0%.
(2) However; protect flipped aircraft & saved BPs "just in case".
(3) Secure link-up between Allies in Italy & Yugoslavia.
(4) Ensure proper FLOT stacks (e.g., no lone HQs, no under protected hexes with flipped aircraft).
(5) USA invasion (2 USMC corps & 1 div) from South China Sea.
Actions.
land - CW, Free France, China, USSR.
combine - USA. Italy. von Bock & AA div mountain "hold out". PTO Invasion Target?
Option 1?
(1) Telok Betong (automatic vs 0 strength notional) with the objective reinforcing next turn to capture Palembang Oil RPx2 (last remaining Japanese Oil RPs) and possible Batavia & 2 stored oil. Option 2?
(2) Kiungchow (automatic vs 0 strength notional) with the objective of reinforcing next turn and pushing into Southern China and capturing Canton.
(2b) Requires FTC (i.e., HQ) to enter China, which is definitely limiting. Other?
(3) USMC corps (7-4, 5-4) & div (1-4) invades at full strength.
(3b) The USN (will) have 4 BBs with a total 16 shore bombardment factors.
(3c) Look at invading directly against Palembang, which is swamp and halves shore bombardment, doubles defender.
(3d) PWIN around 60% to 70%, which is too low to risk 2 corps & div.
(3e) Recommendations?

Re: GW Counterfactual Take 3.
Turn 25. Sep/Oct 1943. Allied #7. MTO Command.
Combined Chiefs of Staff to MTO Command: In pursuant of active war directives USA-WAR-51, USA-WAR-55, given fine weather and lateness of the turn, your command will eliminate the von Leeb Mtn redoubt with the best chance of success and without compromising FLOT in Italy and the Balkans. von Leeb Mtn Redoubt. MTO Command Staff Attack Planning.
Ground Strike, Ground Support Allocation.
(1) Air support - USAAF 4 F/B wings with 5,2,2,2 TAC, 1 bomber with 1 TAC and 1 RAF ATR wing with 2 TAC.
(2) Flip of AA/AT div not only adds +1 to the assault but reduces DF by from a total of 7x2=14 to 5x2=10, which has the cumulative effect of increasing assault odds by +4.314.
(3) Attack packages recommendation based on the table below are:
(a) Ground Strike - USSAF P-61 F/B(5), P-38 F/B(2), P-38 F/B(2) -> with 68% chance of flipping AA/AT div.
(b) Ground Support - RAF ATR(2), USAAF F6F-3 F/B(2) ,B-18(1) -> +5 factors.
-- or -- (c) No ground strike, all ground support -> +14 factors. Assault Attack Planning.
(4) Option 1 with ground support package 3(c) (+14 factors) vs Option 2 (ground strike package 3(a) & ground support package 3(b) + 5 factors).
(5) Option 2 gives the higher expected (or weighted) PWIN of 93.6% vs 88.9% for option 1.
(6) MTO Command Staff recommends Assault Option 2 with ground strike package 3(a) and ground support package 3(b).
(7) MTO Command ACCEPTS recommendation and gives the order to EXECUTE IMMEDIATELY.
