July/August 1945. Axis #6. Army Group South. USSR[57,76]. Land Combat

On the last turn of the game, a shattered result is as good as being destroyed.

July/August 1945. Allied #7. Weather.

The weather deteriorates in places but remains fair over Japan. Rain in the Arctic suit the Soviets, but for the allies this means that the impulse will advance by +2. The end of turn chance, which now is synonymous with the end of game chance, is 10% after this impulse. While unlikely it's not impossible. At best, the (Western) allies may get this and one additional impulse. At worse, this may be the last impulse for them.

July/August 1945. Allied #7. French Indo-China.

Before moving on to the Western Allies in Japan, the Nationalist Chinese launch a gratuitous attack on the unsupplied IJN mech corps that's been hiding out in the mountains of north French Indo-China for several turns now. This outcome of this attack is meaningless, but this unit is the last Japanese unit left in mainland Asia and the Nationalist Chinese want it destroyed at all costs!

Well, it was all cost but the IJN mech corps survived.

July/August 1945. Allied #7. US Plays Two O-Chits!

The US plays an O-Chit to re-organize all their dis-organized HQ units and plays a second to perform a super-combined. This leaves the US with one O-chit.

July/August 1945. Allied #7. Kyoto, Japan. Ground Support.

The Western Allies, of course, target the only remaining Japanese controlled city, and units, left in Japan.

July/August 1945. Allied #7. Kyoto, Japan. Land Combat.

The Western Allies throw all the forces they have to try to take city but only manage to destroy one of the two defenders. In the process they lose two corps and see the remaining attackers dis-organized.

The only hope for the Western Allies to take this city and complete the conquest of Japan is for the game to continue for at least two more impulses. And, even then, they still need a massive re-organization effort to even have a shot.
