Still desperately short on DDs.

I feel that way until about mid-43 when the Americans start pumping out about 8 to 10 DDs per month. It will be nice when you can afford to send about 8 or more Fletchers to India to help out.

Double checking with my Swedish friend, but you do have a Corp and Command HQ prepping for those two bases?? [;)]

Actually...No! They are prepping for something else. More on that later... [:)]

Its a long way from Japan though and he doesn´t get much in return for a huge investment. Besides Japan is ill suited for that kind of war. Not the best amphibious tools, not very good engineer capabilities for base expansion and a long way from the DEI fuel. This while the allies have prepared bases and proximity to both Balboa and NZ/OZ.

Sometimes you do things, not to receive something but to take it away from your opponent.

The IJN holds Alaska, parts of the Canadian coast, part of Australia, imagine if they were well suited for this kind of war.

PS Fletchers are not super ships, just good DD's. A lot of their success is when they build up experience, dont commit them "assuming" they can take on the IJN. (Same goes for P47 & F4U)

Yeah, the first batch of them doesn´t start out with very good experience. They are on their way to SOPAC to build up EXP bombarding Japanese bases. [:)]

Attacks are going well at Silchar. I think 2 or possibly 3 more attack.
Ground combat at Silchar (59,39)

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 58422 troops, 601 guns, 932 vehicles, Assault Value = 1991

Defending force 37764 troops, 400 guns, 96 vehicles, Assault Value = 888

Allied adjusted assault: 922

Japanese adjusted defense: 693

Allied assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 1)

Allied Assault reduces fortifications to 0 [&o]

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), leaders(+), preparation(-), fatigue(-)
experience(-), supply(-)

Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
1901 casualties reported

Non Combat: 2 destroyed, 27 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 7 disabled
Guns lost 20 (1 destroyed, 19 disabled)
Vehicles lost 47 (12 destroyed, 35 disabled)

At Chittagong the weather cleared allowing us to dish out another 1k casualties. Fleet will arrive shortly and start bombarding in preparation of the first attack.

Jeff managed to sneak some supply in via DDs. I hope this bombardment blew through it.
Ground combat at Chittagong (55,41)

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 83784 troops, 1383 guns, 985 vehicles, Assault Value = 2664

Defending force 75002 troops, 891 guns, 680 vehicles, Assault Value = 1869

Japanese ground losses:
11 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Allied ground losses:
45 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 4 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled

I have 2 big OPs planned for late 42/early 43. One of them in India. But I need to clear Chittagong before I can move forward with that.

Very little to report. We have bounced quite a few turns lately. In India my bombers have been refusing to fly. Grounded for 2-3 days and then fly 1. No idea whats up. Frustrating.

Fleet has left Colombo and will rebase at the new level 9 port at Madras. We sunk an enemy sub outside Calcutta last turn. I´m a bit weary about sending the ASW TFs out too often as Japanese SCTFs are prowling the waters.

No new interesting SIGINT either.

Lost Sian yesterday. Normally I just abandon it but I´m bound by a HR that prevents me to strat bomb in China throughout the war so I have to make sure the factories are destroyed.

That is it for now!

Is November in the Monsoon season? That could give you weather that grounds your bombers for days.

In India/Burma, weather rules the skies!![:D] Otherwise, check the leader stats of the Air HQs they are attached to and see if they are close enough to the actual air groups. My American bombers are all assigned to 10th Air and I place the HQ close enough to the air groups with a good leader.

Another is the AI thinking you don't have enough fighters on escort mission to protect them and stopped the missions (as long as the bombers don't have super aggressive leaders).

Then again, the pilots may belong to a union that only permits flying a certain number of missions per month.

Could be CAP and refusing to fly into it...

Not really sure what it is TBH. Shouldn´t be a "CAP" problem as the AF should be closed. Had a strange instant last turn when all the squadrons had removed their target so I thought that was the issue but no go after I reset it to Chittagong.

I have two AirHQs at Calcutta. Both with good leaders. Most squadrons are tied to other AirHQs though. Starting to lean towards the union problem. Where is the button to have them shot? [:D]

Deffo something with the weather at Calcutta. Set the bombers to different targets as well as sweeps. Nothing flew.

Damn you weather! [:@]

Almost the end of the month...

------------------------
WC/NORPAC
------------------------

Jeff continues to bomb the outskirts of my CAP. He sets a few fires and that´s about it.

------------------------
SOPAC
------------------------

As the fleet refits I havn´t really done anything down here. A few days until we are done. The fleet will assemble south of Noumea and the operation to take back Ndeni will commence. There will be a lot of bombardments here mostly to train the fleet in night fighting. Jeff has stopped interfering with my shipping in the New Hebrides and base expansion is going well.

I hope to launch my first big operation in late December down here.

------------------------
India
------------------------

Stalemate as I slowly grind down the defenders of Chittagong and Silchar. Another attack ordered at Silchar tomorrow. Lack of bombing on Chittagong is really annoying. Jeff managed to get more supply in again and no doubt his troops have recovered. Naval bombardments will commence shortly. Fleet has arrived at Madras. The 4 slow BBs are still in Colombo waiting for DDs to come of out refit.

Wow - 3 to 1 odds and you hit him for 40 times the casualties! Never saw so many minus signs on one combat! [:D]

Looks like you smashed a lot of his heavy artillery - the replacement pools for IJA big guns are very thin or none. Do you have any units in shape to pursue?

Very nice, over 30% casualties and with the supply deficit, a lot of those disabled devices won't get easily repaired. You should shift your airpower to punish those units!
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

Yes and no. I have the troops but I don´t want to commit them into the Burma jungle as many of them are prepping for "the big one". Would take too long to pull them out when I need them.

I´ll sift through India and see if I can dig something up that I can commit. [:)]

Normally I would but I need to evict the Japanese from Chittagong asap. So the bombers will continue to hit Chittagong for now. [:)]

Battle for Chittagong
_____________________________________________________________________________

Looks like we upped the ante quite a bit. This certainly suits me as I have superiority unless the KB shows up. I just wonder how many capital ships I will lose to Japanese SSNs before that though. Bay of Bengal is crawling with them. And unlike Japanese SSN I´m stuck with conventional diesel ones... [:(]
Sub attack near Akyab at 54,44

Japanese Ships
BB Kirishima
BB Kongo
CA Ashigara
DD Hatsuharu
DD Kuri
DD Asanagi

Allied Ships
SS Trout

SS Trout launches 6 torpedoes at BB Kirishima

Then the bombardments show up...
Night Naval bombardment of Chittagong at 55,41

Japanese Ships
BB Kirishima
BB Kongo
CA Ashigara

Allied ground losses:
322 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 8 disabled
Non Combat: 4 destroyed, 23 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 0 disabled
Vehicles lost 5 (1 destroyed, 4 disabled)
Night Naval bombardment of Chittagong at 55,41

Japanese Ships
CA Suzuya
CA Takao
CL Kinu
CL Natori

Allied ground losses:
112 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 7 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Night Naval bombardment of Chittagong at 55,41

Japanese Ships
CA Suzuya
CA Takao
CL Kinu
CL Natori

Allied ground losses:
466 casualties reported
Squads: 1 destroyed, 24 disabled
Non Combat: 3 destroyed, 33 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled

Surprisingly the damage isn´t noticeable. [&:] Had to cross check with Jeffs CR just to verify the bombardments actually happened. Quite odd but I´ll take it.

Looks like we are building up to a big naval battle for control of the sea outside Chittagong. Not going to shy away from that as I have quite a big superiority unless Jeff holds something back.

With Force Z reinforced by Washington I feel quite confident to take on Kirisishima and Kongo even in a night battle. Jeff is not defenseless though and has superior subs, LBA and good nightfighting capabilities. My nightmare is losing a 3rd US fleet carrier to subs in this game. I have flooded the area with countless ASW TFs and have every single Patrol squadron + several bomber squadrons doing NavS/ASW in the area. Despite that I bet I´m going to lose at least 1 capital ship to subs in the coming days. No doubt a US CV. Mark my words.

Here is a screen of the current situation. I would be amazed if this doesn´t end up with a huge naval battle. I´m confident but regret not devoting more naval LBA capabilities here. Most of my DBs are still on the WC and in SOPAC.

Strangely enough we seem to control the skies. At least for now. Jeff has been really passive here. Dacca have already reached level 7 air field and most of the RAF fighters are based here sweeping Chittagong. Taking Silchar has opened up the rail from the rest of India which saves me a lot of time and walking between Calcutta and Dacca.

At Chittagong the Japanese hold firm. Jeff managed to draw supply here and I´m doing my best to burn it again. My bombers are taking a bit of a beating but sometimes you have to break a few eggs.

The fleet is moving in but I have to try and dodge all the SSNs currently flooding the Bay of Bengal. Once we are in position the CAs and slow BBs will start pummeling Chittagong while Force Z and the CVs provide cover. I had hoped to do my first deliberate attack here in a few days but that has been postponed until I have burned the supply and applied pressure to the troops again. New plan is to attack in about 14 days.

Sadly it looks like my goal of clearing India before 42 is up wont hold. This has ramifications as the troops are needed elsewhere.
