Sometimes, even the most powerful leader in the world couldn't grasp the idea how advanced the US military has becomes:

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/apos-digital- ... 36810.html
“It sounded bad to me. Digital. They have digital. What is digital? And it’s very complicated, you have to be Albert Einstein to figure it out,” Mr Trump said.

“And I said - and now they want to buy more aircraft carriers ... I said what system are you going to be - ‘Sir, we’re staying with digital.’

"I said, ‘No you’re not. [You’re] going to goddamned steam,’ the digital costs hundreds of millions of dollars more money and it’s no good."

------

Remember my dubious talk about railgun before? Not anymore, this news can be a wet dream for railgunenrs today:

http://newatlas.com/general-atomics-hyp ... les/49514/
One example of such hypersonic weapon is General Atomics' Blitzer electric railgun system, which uses electromagnets to accelerate a projectile clad in a sabot at up to 60,000 Gs until it can not only reach hypersonic velocity, but carry enough energy to travel four mi (6.4 km) after penetrating a 3.2 mm steel plate. The Blitzer is made of a launcher, a high density pulsed power unit, and a weapon fire control system.

In addition to the improved electronics package, the projectile also tested a new continuous two-way data link between the in-flight projectiles and a ground station, a new lightweight composite sabot, and the ability to maintain bore structural integrity at high acceleration.

The company is currently working on a new High Energy Pulsed Power Container (HEPPC) to supply the Blitzer with twice the energy density of existing pulsed power systems, allowing for more compact version of both the land- and sea-based versions of the railgun.

"We're continuing to test at an impressive pace, building on the successes over the past year to advance both our Blitzer railgun systems and hypersonic projectile capabilities," says Nick Bucci, vice president Missile Defense and Space Systems at GA-EMS. "We are on track to conduct another series of tests using the Blitzer 10 MJ railgun system later this year. With each new firing, we continue maturing the technologies and performing risk reduction toward a multi-mission railgun weapon system that supports future operation on land and at sea.

Well, I am already an active duty Light Infantry Soldier with over 25 years in service and several combat deployments, so I have no problem saying "next man up"![:D]

A report about a PLA Air Defense excercise from last year, showing multiple radar systems in service to them (YLC-6, JY-11B, YLC-2V, JYL-1A etc.). Most interestingly, this unit has been awarded for detecting and intercepting a VLO stealth target for the first time. It is unknown if the stealth target was real or simulated. It is understood that they achieved this feat by "networking" the radar systems together.

In any case, the report declares that "The era where Western invaders will be able to abuse a country at will by simply dispatching their stealth fighters is finally over". [;)]

I'm not so sure how practical it is. They may have proved radar layer1 networking, but it requires a very large amount of bandwidth to digitally represent these signals. IIRC, its about 3.5Gbps to network LTE signals, and as of now, it can only be done on the backplane of cellsite eNB sites, no way will operators pay for backhaul for that. Military of course has no budget, but that LTE carrier is only 5-20MHz wide. Radar, quite a bit larger. So basically, I call BS....unless they are triangulating uncertainty zones (which is done at a higher layer, and would require less networking bandwidth) with low freq radar- maybe, just maybe enough to generate a lock on for a SAM to go "find" the aircraft.

The article is clearly marked "as an opinion from individual writers only" at the footer, so it's not a think-tank analysis. The writer is also a military fan that come out from his own impressions.

While skeptical of multi-bandwidth adaptability from different radar, it's no stranger to Chinese military has its own home growth electronic research and development, the shortcoming of radar emission and identification shouldn't be their weaknesses as long as the necessary weapon systems are developed in time (e.g.: the HQ-9/S-300/400 intergrations into BMD network from Sino-Rus ABM drill).

----

Meanwhile, Chinese scientist also announced the unique, softkill-proof radar protection system. Aim to protect the radar itself and key electronics from cooking off by microwave weapons, with a radome-like device for autotuning the countermeasure. It's also possible to passively resist jamming, and can be instantly turn on and off when needed.

The construction crane is surely a part of the sanctioned item, does it?

In desperate time, people can turn everything into a weapon, sometimes the size does matter.

However, the combat effectiveness, and whom to shoot first has the final say:

Unfortunately guys, these jokes gone real.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/afp/ar ... ining.html
Four Indonesian soldiers have been killed and eight others injured by artillery fire in an accident during training on a South China Sea island, the army said Thursday.

It took place Wednesday when an artillery cannon malfunctioned during the exercise involving an army reserve battalion on Tanjung Datuk Natuna, on the northwestern fringe of the vast Indonesian archipelago.

"The cannon became uncontrollable and hit soldiers in the vicinity," army spokesman Alfret Denny Tuejeh told AFP.

Non-military news, but adjacent to global tension for resources.

China successfully dug and burn solid state methane hydrates, aka 'flammable ice', with better expectation of energy output than natural gas. However, the place the rig digs and the potential environmental impact will be as serious as the SCS tension that barely stays in control:

One year ago, China gave EP-3 and answer with a barrel-rolling J-11B. A year later since this incident, US wants China to impress more:

The first module of the 3rd Type 055 Cruiser/Heavy Destroyer appeared in Shanghai - it's the 5th hull overall.
Rumors could be proven correct that the first batch of Type 055s are to be eight ships.

The two Type 055s in Dalian, built in parallel:

And the first hull in Shanghai will launch before years end:

The integrated mast was recently installed. According to reliable leakers, the mast will be equipped with four X-band AESAs in addition to its known S-band Type 346-series AESA (rumored to be improved Type 346B). The Type 055 would be similiar to the Burke AMDR as in being equipped with two sets of AESA radars in S and X band.
