ELO ended:
Result: General23n8 (Allies) LOSER v tedstriker19 (Axis) WINNER.

After good defence in France, Allies had difficulties to stop German advance in UDSSR. Axis was fully comitted there with air and tank power. China was also overrun in 1942. After capitulation of UDSSR, China and India in Summer 1943, Allies capitulated in October 1943.

Thx for great game General23n8.

I've played a bunch but still looking to find a strategy to slow the Nazi juggernaut into Russia. But I'm game to try again
Also, too late to get into the ELO tournament??

Hi pwurzburger,
Welcome to ELO ratings. Even though the thread is titled "The World at War ELO Tournament", it's not a tournament. ELO is just a rating system. You can join anytime. Hopefully we'll get the title of the thread fixed to better describe our ELO gaming system.

Play an ELO game and earn a rating. To get started, post a challenge on the Multiplayer Sessions thread. Or reply to someone else's challenge.

See you over the game board,

Haven't played before but if I can make a good game out of it, I will be happy. Learnt a few things on the way Hasmat_slith plays axis so hopefully I can utilise some of those .
Taifun (Allies) defeats HarrrySmith (Axis)
December 1944: Soviet forces enter Berlin. Harry fought literally to the last man and the last unit, with only a single German garrison surviving by the end of the game.

Following a highly successful campaign in France in 1940, German forces turned their attention eastward, abandoning the Mediterranean theater and leaving their Italian allies to fend for themselves. Mussolini committed his finest armies to the defense of Libya, but they, along with much of the Italian air force, were annihilated by Allied forces in less than a year.

After a promising start to Operation Barbarossa, Harry's armies encountered fierce Soviet resistance around Smolensk, Voronezh, the Volga region, and Rostov. For two long years, the Germans launched repeated offensives in an attempt to break through Soviet defenses. Despite their efforts, they failed to make any significant progress and were eventually forced into a long retreat through Eastern Europe, falling back to Poland and Romania.

In 1943, American forces landed in Sicily and advanced on Rome, forcing Italy's surrender. They also attempted a landing in France, but a powerful German panzer counteroffensive drove them back into the sea and forced an evacuation.

By the summer of 1944, however, the Allies returned to France. Finding the country largely stripped of defenders, they advanced rapidly across Western Europe and pushed toward Germany's borders with little resistance.

Meanwhile, the Soviet war machine had become unstoppable. By late 1944, Soviet armies swept across Eastern Europe and the Balkans, crushing the last German formations that stood in defense of the Reich.

Japan never succeeded in breaking into the heart of China. Supported by American strategic bombers, Chinese forces gradually eliminated all Japanese troops on the mainland, while Soviet armies achieved the same result in Manchuria. Facing defeat on every front, Japan collapsed in the summer of 1944.

It was a fantastic game from start to finish, full of dramatic reversals and hard-fought campaigns. My thanks go to Harry for his time, commitment, and for being such a great opponent.
