Yes I believe it's true his Carriers have run to Midway and may now even be enroute to Pearl...unsure where they are heading now.
Both the HIYO & UNYO sank from uncontrolable flooding. I guess I'll just never understand damage control and repair.
I shot down alot of F4F's today but that was no solace.
In China he attempted toattack my Tank Rgts un-encirlcing Canton & Hong Kong...he might with a bloddy repulse.

Here was the situation on Spetember 5th. I made sure I left both Carrier Groups with a hex left in their movement i.e. I only moved the SHOKAKU & ZUIKAKU 5 hexes and the AKAGI & KAGA 4. While we spotted the carriers and even got the beloved (or dreaded - when their your carriers) "Spotted Enemy Carriers" announcement...neither group reacted nor did 70+ Betty and Nell Bombers on Attu.

September 7th, 1942
 
Well my SCTF got surprised by a smalled Royal Navy TF by Perth and took a whuppin!  The IJN had the HYUGA, ISE, 4 Heavy & 1 light cruiser, plus 4 destroyers, and I was opposed by the BB HMS Resolution, 2 CLAA's and 5 destroyers. Unfortunately my TF was surprised in a major way and the Resolution and other Allied ships got two round s of naval fire before my ships responded. The ISE was badly damaged and then later hit by a torpdo from a Beaufort and I doubt she will make it back home; I expect incessant air attacks to sink her tomorrow. The KINUGASA was also badly damaged and in major trouble.  The Resolution was damged and hit with if I recall correctly 3 x 14" shells which penetrated and 1 CLAA and 2 DDs were sunk. I did though get a bombardment of Perth, but very few guns were lost, making me nervous about forcing an invasion. I will wait for a day or two and see if I can bobmard again and take out some more of those 6" CD Guns before I postpone the Amphibious Operation. Several Tank Rgts, Artillery Rgts, somne SNLF units and some Infantry continue to march south towards Perth. 
 
In the Alutians I tried again to trigger a naval air attack but was unsuccessful. This has cost my 2 AKs, a Minesweeper and 2500 supply. I placed Subs in the hexes between Adak && Dutch HArbor, plus placing some at Adak Island. I placed a Betty unit with 80+ Experience on Naval Attack+Night missions.
 
In China Ichang is in trouble. It will fall soon. I find it funny that throughout this 4 month engagement, and although I have had 2 Engineer Rgts present, I can't remeber seeing Fortifications reduced by engineers here. Tomorrow I will have some infantry in the hex west of Canton w/my 2 Tank Rgts. They are opposed only by a single Chinese Infantry Corps, but it is probably recoverd from its badly managed attack on my tankers.
 
In the Southern Pacific I continue to make gains at Efate. But once again the phantom bombardment...I guess the third time will be the charm? For some reason my ANNS at Koumac did not strike at his PT Boats. I was really upset when I saw what I believe is the USS Mississippi running past Efate in good weather and is spotted and not struck by my 3 Datais of Betty bombers at Luganville!
 
Plans continue for invasions in the Tarawa region. I am building Tarawa and Makin as bases, but may shift my forces from Makin to Apamenu (Spelling?) since it looks to have a better airfield max. First I reinforce Tarawa and Wake, thenI look into that.

SEPTEMBER 8th, 1942
 
My attack at Efate gets clobbered. HIs AV gets adjusted WAY UP...more then doubled and I lose nearly 1000 troops. Had those 'phony' bombardments again, for some reasons those 4.7" guns just wont fire to support my troop + the bombers from Luganville didnt fly either.
My attack on Ichang changed itself to a bombardment attack...evryu disappointing. Perhaps I will take I chang today. If the Deliberate Attack gets changed again I will be very upset. I think I will let my Tankers smash in to his Chinese Corps east of Canton; I will support them by air and with a bombardment run with  some ships from Hong Kong.
Looks like Floyd has moved a large TF with Aks and some APs to Baker Island. Aparently he is planning something. Perhaps he is trying to take Tarawa or Makin before I can build up my defenses? I am shifting some naval assets into the region and may have to hold off on my own plans in that region. But then again my own plans were still over a week away before even the commencement of any operation so I'll still continue planning to invade Baker, or Canton, or one of those islands in that region.
 
Once more an IJN Tranport TF randomly begins to unload troops on a non-destination coastal hex! {This has happened near Akyab, twice; at Rennel Island, near Amchitkita Island, and another little nonsense spot in the Solomons while we fought over Lunga} This time is 4/5 heses from Perth. Here I was planning to hold off for a day or two and this brigade is half unloaded. Well you know this time I am going to just let them unload and take advantage of this situation. The three other times all hurt me; perhaps this time I can benefit from a game mechanics  bug/blunder. Another Battleship is heading south, with an Infantry Division; these guys can squeeze his Aussie Brigade with the Tankers and troops coming from the North.

IJA Forces who will (hopefully) take Ichang tomorrow!
In the south I have evacuated 1 of the brigades from Pakhoi, a construction battalion, and part of the "C -Rgt" of the 21st Inf Division. I hope to be able to withdraw the majority of the other brigade tomorrow.

A view of Tarawa, Kwajalein and region. The I-157 failled in a sub attack at Baker and spotted a TF with lots of AKs there. Looks like Floyd is planning an offensive in this area.

Turn Notes for September 9th, 1942
 
For some reason known only to the game, it had Admiral Tanaka react towards PT Boats at Koumac. Now Tanaka could not reach Koumac, and left the TF he was ordered to follow, and got clobbered! Why would the game have a SCTF react to something it couldnt intercept? Because his PT Boats were in Koumac and Tanaka ended up two hexes outside of Koumac...w/o any air support...so of course the HIEI and HAGURO are now hurting.
 
Two Datais and a chutai of BETTY & NELL bombers at Kwajalein and NO attacks on his TF heading towards the Gilberts and probably Tararwa. This really sucks....I can't go a day w/o his bombers who are at the edge of their extended range striking me, while I rarely get my Betty & Nell bombers to strtike at his TFs which are consistently in range...these TFs are spotted but are never struck. Perhaps I could understand if these were TFs with carriers and the Bomber crews were scared of the fighters...but nope.
 
My attack on Ichang although it receives a 2:1 fails to dislodge him. I hate when the game tells me that the fortifications were which already at 0 are reduced to 0. I find this very insulting...it's like the game is taunting and teasing me. I have had two Engineer Rgts at Ichang and I never, never got "Fortifications reduced by Engineers" in over 4 months! Well my Tankers with Infantry support attacked his Cirps west of Canton and smashed it, but for some reason my Tankers pursued...game upped the Deliberate to a Shock attack...and then they pursued them into a Woods non road hex....wonderful! At least my TONYs downed 9 Hurricanes at Pakhoi.

September 10th, 1942

I suffer again from PT Boat vs "PT Boat" Destroyer battle action. Why has every combat between my ships and his PT Boats always started within range of his PT Boats guns? When even when my PT's were in torpedo range they NEVER fired!

My attacks at Efate and Ichang did not capture either base and now my troops will have to rest. At Koumac my AKs speed in from 2 hexes away at Full Speed, yet didnt unload a single supply point? The TF wasn't even listed as unloading...yet the game will unload TFs with troops who are ordered "DO NOT Unload" at hexes which were not their destination hexes? Very strange and very frustrating.

His Transport TF swaggered close to Tarawa and the Gilverts...3 hexes from Tararwa and yet not a strike was launched from my VALs on Tararawa or all my BETTY & NELL Bombers at Kwajalein. I mean I know 1 Datai of NELLS was a little tired (fatgiue @ 30) the rest were fine, the weather was fine, and the TF was spotted, aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhh!

Good News was I did sink an Allied Sub...allbeit with a torpedo and thewn it cost me 1 sub and another that will probably sink before she makes back to base.

And the most frustrating event of the turn...a Transport TF loaded with a large part of the Base Force from Pakhoi, unloaded back over the beaches. It was ordered to move away and was the only TF of the bunch with a DO NOT UNLOAD order the barges who were only ordered to move away w/o a do not unload...didnt but this TF did! Of course the Chinese shcok attacked, wiping out the majority of this base force

GREAT CAP...NOT

This can happen if there is a large altitude difference between the Zeros and bombers. Not sure if thats the case but if say the bombers come in at 6,000 ft and the zero's are set at 30k, I have seen one or no passes at the bombers. Whereas I usually put my fighters 3 to 4 k above the altitude they normally come in at.

I have heard the game takes into affect the time it takes to dive down on the bombers.

Once again you may be doing it correctly and there could be other reasons, tired fatigued. just got up on wrong side of bed. Hope this helps

The B25's came in at 5000 ft and the ZEROS were flying at 8000 ft!
By the way both B-25's were damaged by flak.

September 11th, 1942

An interesting turn if nothing else.
In our typical phone conversation as I ran the turn...he likes me to give him a play-by-play as I run the turn...Floyd wanted me to pick up the Infantry unit unloaded by transports on the coast of Australia. I asked him simply "Why is it everytime the game screw's up do I have to suffer?" this was at least the 6th time that my troops had unloaded at places other then their destinations and with Do Not Unload orders. He agreed that this was not the 1st timethat this had occurred and he never of thought of it like that, but he was concerned that he had a unit that night be squeezed by my troops now. I replied that the only way I would consider removing those troops was to redo the turn and for him not to naval strike my ships picking up those troops...but I had already lost a CL because of this; how far back did we want to go? After his bombers once more evaded the majority of my CAP and hit the JUNYO he no longer seemed to have any desire to replay the turn or the one previous
Then about a third of my bombers from Kwajalein struck at his TF heading nopt for Tarawa, but Apamama.... carrying the 40th USA Inf Div. They had some success, but I wish more would have struck in the PM Phase, but there was no strike in the PM Phase. Afterwards there was a small surface combat when his escorts destroyed a PG. He was puzzled why no troops unloaded, and when the turn ended I saw his TF had retreated 1 hex to the west. Floyd was very upset and confused....he couldnt understand how this could happen...just like I havent been able to understand many things the computer has done (like Admiral Tanaka reacting to PT Boats @ Koumac, then barely moving towards them and exposing himself to US Air Power w/o ever engaging the PT Boats) So Floyd ever the able programmer felt there must be some mistake and he compared both PWHEX files, only to find they were identical. So now finally he feels my pain! He knows what it is like when the game/AI does something stupid and it costs you. Hopefully I will make him suffer some more.

Besides that the most important happeening came at Noumea where an attack destroyed 13 F4F-4's in the air and 9 on the ground as well as 9 Dakota I's (he's been flying some supply from Noumea to Efate but I've been intercepting 1 or 2 groups every turn).

September 12th, 1942

Allied PT Boats slip in to Koumac harbor and sink an IJN AK & PC. As usual they slip out unscathed. I can on,y hope that some of the supply was unloaded from that AK before it was sunk.
Another IJN PG does it duties and dies dealying the American invasion of Apamama another day by forcing the invasion fleet to scatter. This maybe somewhat gamey but heck he sent my TFs w/Destroyers and Cls scattering when they were dropping off supplies at Koumac & Efate...so honestly I don't feel too bad. What disappointed me was that although my VALs from Tarawa struck not a single Betty (2 Datais + 1 Chutai) or Nell (1 Datai & 1 chutai) from Kwajalein even attempted top strike at his TF! Really hoping he changes course and tries to land at Tarawa...would love to see what all my CD Guns would do versus his 5 destroyers, APD, and 17 Aks loaded with troops (probably of the 40th US Inf Div). Reinforcements are on their way, I have 2 CLs and some destroyers rushing to the area and should arrive in a day or two; plus I am moving a large Naval Guard Infantry to Tarawa. I still have a Yok Para Bn in the area....hmmmmmmmmm...

American 4E bombers took a bit of a pounding today both at Attu & Pt Moresby. I bet he was surprised to see a number of TONYs over Attu! I was disppointed to see only 29 of my 63 TONY pilots take to the air, but overall it was a banner day vs those 4 Engined beasts. A total of 43 American 4-Engine bombers were destroyed (mainly B-24D's), 37 officially shot down in air-to-air combat!

In China my Tankers continued to chase the 4th Chinese Corps all the way to the gates of Hengchow! I have restored my lines-of commmunication between the Canton and Hong Kong area, and the rest of Japanese controlled China. The Hong Kong area will be reinforced my the 2 brigades that I rescued from Pakhoi. I hope my troops deliberate attack tomorrow at Ichang. I had ordered them to do so, but they only bombarded!

My troops succesfully (and finally) captured Efate! Funny the Base Force I had been saving for Efate just arrived a coiuple of days ago at Tarawa...we'll see how that turns out. Well I have a TF steaming south from Truk with another Base Force as well as several Aps to load up alot of those troops!

Floyd really got upset when his attack at Adak Island must have received lousy rolls and had an adjusted AV of 9! Reminds me of when I had a 4 on one of my Darwin attacks made by 2+ divisions.

He got a little revenge at Noumea from yesterdays turkey shoot and did a good number on my planes attacking several ships at Noumea. Now are those ships which slipt past me unspotted carryinr reinforcements to Noumea or is he loading up more troops to ferry to his beachhead at Koumac?

September 13th, 1942
 
The day started with the trainning cruiser KASHII and an escorting destroyer driving away a TF of already damaged US Ships from Apamama, sinking a DD and an APD  (while the other DD & the ASK sunk later).  Then the larger US TF was discovered and in the ensuing combat my destroyer was sunk as well as another US DD (+ 1 heavily damaged) and the Americans withdrew this time towards Baker Island. I was though very disappointed that not a single strike was launched by my Betty & Nell bombers at Kwajalein. That makes two days of good weather and ZERO strikes launched from a major base with supply, aviation support, and an IJN Air HQ! Boy can this game be frustrating!
 
I was disappointed I didnt do as well at Ichang as I thought, but with a supply line now established my chance of taking it has probably passed.
His B-24's hit Gili Gili again...looking for softer targets to train against. I may have to train some of my own TONY & TOJO pilots vs his trainees.
I am a little concerned that my troops at La FOa were not adjusted up at all with the terrain and their 'esatz' (unofficial) forts, but I was able to repel his attack.

September 14th, 1942
 
Once more my Betty & Nell Datais do not strike at the American Invasion fleet fleeing from their failed attempt at Apamama Atoll. Also my Betty Datais at Rangoon and Bangkok spot, but once again do not strike the British Cruiser force off Andaman Island.
 
This turn and last turn really depleted my fighter strength in the South PAcific. For a while I thought I was winning the air battle, but he sucked me in and now I have three seriously depleted ZERO Datais. Luckily two sentais of Army fighters (TONYs & TOJOs) are unloading in Lunga and will be able to transfer into either Lugnaville oe Koumac (who still has a decent datai of A6M3's).
 
I think I forgot to mention that the ISE succumbed to her wounds the other day and became the 1st IJN BB to go under. But an ASW TF sunk the sub which torpedoed my oiler. The YAMATO is about to leave dry dock, 11 sys damage took 3 months to repair @ Maizuru (she was only ship there too). I have to remember to sacrifice a chicken to the WitP deities next time. I have accelerated the MUSHASI, so she will be active by "Halloween" 1942.

September 15th, 1942
 
ANother day no attacks made towards his Apamama force, nor the Cruisers off the Andaman Islands. Its funny if I had turned the KIRISHIMA, CHOKAI, & AOBA around instead of returning back to Singapore when his TF 1st showed up, I may have been able to contact them today! Betty's from Rangoon received the "Unable to Locate Target" and once more his TF sits unscathed 3 hexes from the Andaman ISlands.
 
Was syrprised to see a number of Wellingtons included in a strike against the 7th Inf Div on Adak Island. Seems my A6M3's are not flying LRCAP...because none of them showed up! Hopefully I'll finish the air strip at Amchitka and move some TONYs there from Attu.
 
In Burma my TOJOs and now a sentai of TONYs refuse to fly escort and several bombers are shot down over the Mandalay-Myitikinia road. I should have had 34 TOJOs and close to 20 TONYs flying escort; they would have dealt with those 5 pesky AVG P-40s.
 
The oiler Tsunami, torpedoed by the Permit sunk.

September 17th, 1942
 
The air battle in the New Hebrides and New Caledonia have troubled me and now with the introduction of 87 striking 4 Engine bombers (last turn) has me very worried. Luckily today there were no strikes and I was able to transfer out some of my battered A6M2 Datais and should have a Sentai of TONYs in their place. In another day another sentai of TONYs is slowly repairing at Lunga. I have a few Destroyers and 6 PGs to try and drive away his PT Boats so I can slip some supply into Koumac, I will wait for bad weather.
Today he bombarded Andaman Island (BB Valiant + 3 CL) with the KIRISHIMA and FUSO still at least a day away! Once more my Bettys at Rangoon and Bangkok do not strike. I am going to place another datai of Bettys at Alor Star and see if that helps!
I raided Carins from high altitude and was surprised that out of 5 A6M2's I lost, 3 were shot down by P-39's...I was flying @ 30,000 ft; thats 1000 ft above their ceiling. I guess the Zeros went lower to mix it up, but how much lower? I lost track of the Allied TF moving towards Australia from India. Once more none of my Betty/Nell units choose to strike at it. So I have to believe that another Indian Division is being ferried to Perth ( at the least). Well my attack on his brigade on the road to Perth went well, 2:1, but I did not force him to retreat....maybe tomorrow.
In China Ichang Fell! I was starting to think it wasnt going to fall, he had regained a supply path through a woods hex to the NW....but I drove him out. Hopefully this will force him to revaluate and worry a bit. I will try and send a Division and some Artillery north and see what develops in the Canton region.

September 18th, 1942
 
Good News fighters in Burma flew! I assigned a Tony Sentai to a sweep and finally they flew and blew his LRCAP of part of the AVG  out of the sky, downing all 7 P-40E's for no loss of their own! I was a little surprised that my units at the Mandalay-Myitikyna road are recovering so slowly...that and the fact that his units from Ledo have finally entered Myitikyna, have led to move begin moving the 23rd Brigade back up the road to Myitikyna.
 
I got lucky in the SoPac region. I have mista=kenly transfered a Sentai of TONYs to Efate instead of Luganville, but Floyd's 4 Engine bombers did not attack, so I'll transfer them to Luganville today. I'll have a sentai & a chutai of Tuny's at Luganville, while the sentai on Lunga continues to "uncrate".
 
I was disappointed that my shock attack on the road to Perth failled to dislodge the Aussie Brigade. I had a 2:1 deliberate yesterday, and with low disruption (15-19) I was hoping that with a shock attack I could force the Aussies to retreat. While I again received 2:1 odds, once more Ifailled to dislodge the Aussies.
 
I can't believe he torpedoed another oiler!
