Yes, works both ways.....alot less 2E's get the chop making nells and beatties much more dangerous potentially though they still need a good escort. Baby KB won't stand a chance against a three-four CV USN grouping. Yikes.

com'on...you know you want to......send those CV's in...Nimitz is counting on you [;)]

make that 6 CV's [;)]. 2nd brit one is heading down from ceylon

Ill do a screnie of derby as well , its an interesting place :) same with darwin :)

LoL...thats what's called a "tease" hit Rob.

'belt armor' hits for the big carriers with armor belts are equivilent to a near miss that rattles the hull but doesn't do much else. Still....bet it scared the crap out of your opponent. [:D]

china is a happy land of plenty right now .. now to punch back the japs around the cities and dig in . no wierd offensives in china for me. well maybe in 43 if we get that far. it feels wrong to attack in china so early .

Don't worry about it "feeling" wrong (attacking in China as China) Unless Herr Miller totally wastes away his forces through attrition attacks, it is very very tough for even large numbers of Chinese to successfully assault cities that have substantial fort levels. Easy to lose 4-7000 in a single attack.

Yeah no engineers would be a setback :) when i can get some british ones over to china later on ( much later) .. then they become a lot more dangerous imo. but we will see . i am happy just not losing anything in china for now. I am aware japan gets some major new units in china over time. hopefully his pools are so depleted they arrive at 25% str with bad experience to boot. [:D]

What is the defensive plan in DEI? Do you intend to put up vicious fight or just let him have it his way?

Excellent news that you got the road open again in China [:D] This can make quite an diffrence in forthcoming months!

Is this the first time you recieved more casualties than IJN in Singapore? Hopefully you can hold it for time being [:)]

looks like it may be all over unfortunately .. Ken may of course just be having a bad day .. BUT .. assuming we continue i plan the following

The DEI i expected sumatra to be hit first .. the rapid redeployment of 2 dutch brigades to kragen has completely slalled the landings .. unfortunately soerbaja is practically empty ( 3 BF and the CD unit) Lots of AP's in tjiljap to do a last evacuations with whever i could get out (mainly the bulk of ABDA hq and some AA units and BF's if possible. Dutch inf reinforcements mean that i will be hard pressed to fill out my little garrison units let alone a bust dutch regiment.

looks like i did get a CV too .. apparently one is badly bust up and in need of several months yard time(lucky). also his AP's have taken a battering overall.(planned objective).

ah yes china is much happier now .. i have agreed that he can pull out the 'lost' jap units that retreated the wrong way .. only seems fair to me .. in any sensible universe they would have retreated toward thier own lines. Ichang and Yenen are now pretty much safe although a bit battered and bruised .. the forts can be rebuilt and enough troops put in to make it impossible for him to harm them any more. However the south ( esp wuchow) is almost empty .. as i pulled out a hell of a lot of troops to make a counter attack possible ..

singapore ??? i really dont know to be honest .. the added supply will not last very long and getting more in is looking less likely every day .. i 'could' use bombers to ferry in stuff .. and i have 32 dakotas in derby that could move up to assist too. bur he's inst taking down the forts and untill they start to go im fine.

hope that answers your questions . i 'could' start evacuating singapore to batavia ( was the initial plan) but with java invaded first ??? im no so sure. i dont have any plans to send more troops into java .. but one brit div ( full strength ) is sitting in karachi for just that purpose if i change my mind .. Burma looks solid with only the addition of one small and one large armoured unit .. and the indian div allows the burma troops to be withdrawn to rebuild ( makes a huge differance ) and then flown back in. Im thinking of moving the transports from ledo to dacca as china seems fine with supply right now .. and they are currently running supply into mandalay. this has the added bonus that troops taken out wont have to march at all .. as dacca is very well supplied and i can easily move SEAC HQ here too ( currently in chandpur) to help in rebuilding and healing the malarial troops.

hope all that makes sense

and if ken does want to stop , frankly i wiould'nt blame him .. i'll post what he said in his latest e-mail ( quite interesting and flattering [;)] )

Hi Rob -

A couple questions -

1. Have any of the CVs hanging around Derby received AA upgrades yet? I assume they're different in Nik's mod too? Also, if I understood correctly, they're hanging around to protect Timor from baby KB, but no plans to hit KB near Java?

2. This was interesting. Could you post it?

I suppose that's really more than just a couple questions. [:)]

IIRC no they didnt get the april upgrades. I dont think the april ones actually do very much apart from some BB's getting a big central battery of light AA guns. I believe its the october upgrades that make a much bigger dirrerance. And with derby so very far away from any shipyards i'd have to leave my timor defence for a good 2 months at a very critical time. I'm planning on using land based LR cap quite a lot too. have a look at the american P40 and P39 fighter groups in derby (72) and Darwin(144).. as well as hurricanes and older dutch models.

EDIT .. AFAIK the refits are the same as vanilla game EDIT

I was tempted to move up the West coast of java, but i think that would be folly. a LOT of land based nells and betties joined the anti shipping spree in the java sea and i dont want to even risk my CV's for no real gain. And if i lose them then he can become rampant again without fear of allied navalstrikes.

Plan for timor is to be the following on paper at least.

Get koepang upto 250 AV support and size 5 ( fort 9 too if poss)

fly in any and all fighters and FB's .. about 250+ available. to act as CAP for the 6 battleships to stand and fight in koepang hex ( being a size 3 port helps a LOT ) . Have my carriers 3-4 hexes SW of koepang under LR cap from any fighters i cant fit into Koepang. also have a LOT of torpedo planes ready to move in N australia ( which are training right now .. some 50ish some 70+)

Dili and lautern have minimal forces and can hold out to anything less than brigade sized ( as demonstrated).

Thats abut it really .. if he comes in with every CV and CVL he has i should have notice ( lots of search planes) and can either withdraw or fight.

2. This was interesting. Could you post it?

I'd rather not unless Ken decides to halt the game .. as It seems tacky posting what is really a private message between players. If we do stop then i feel the need to explain to the readers why, and then i can post it in good concience.

hope that makes sense [;)]

No changes in the mod to the AA upgrades at this time. The AA upgrades will help though. 20mm's will hurt the torpedo bombers.

I would LOVE to face down a big naval bombardment at koepang .. slobber .. slobber .. it would be such fun ( dont care who wins ) massive heavy naval engagements are great to watch..

Well no reply to yesterdays turn and he's usually done 2 by now ( abour 2/day sometimes upto 4 ) .. its a worrying sign . if he does stop i will put it down to unpreparedness of the effectiveness of AA .. once he got bitten hard he didnt come back .. hence a plan completely off schedule.

GREAT NEWS

turn back from Ken , he was just having an off day [;)]

abeit it came with the wrong animation file and combat report so i had to guess what happened ..

all in all .. not much

Kragen is still holding ( sending a 3rd dutch unit here now ) .. china lost a lot of I153 to something over wuuchow AVG/A moved down and resting for a turn ( they are av exp 80+) also sending back the AR's to san fran .. as any new ones are still some time away and the BB;s will need them when they get back stateside.

also LB-30's o the way to australia via canton/suva/noumea .. some more B25's sent out too .. may need the numbers over timor later .. I have now scrounged up 64 B17's in the pools ( at 16/month its a long wait) so i can swop an old heavy unit i temporarily swopped to mitchells back. I will probably swop out the michells heading to Oz. or the mitchells in burma .. although i do not need the 4E especially here as i use them mainly for ground attack and SR attacks.

well we are carrying on ! huzzah !

Noy bad really as i'd had withdrawn a large amount by sub over th past few months. they are already rebuilding in townsville nicely. One other oddity i have never noticed before is Empire search a/c can convert to Dakotas ! so i did .. noy 16 more uncrating in derby .. for a total of 48 transports here now.

2nd day was much the same as above .. no suprises and no sub attacks either ( i have quite a few surrounding kragen).

also my screen capture software has finally died ( i.e wants money ! ) .. so ill have to track down another one.
