I've teched it up now

What kind of work are you/will you be looking for?

Breast inspector, Jeremy Kyle audience member, racing elephant vet. Anything that pays well and is easy...

Ideally I want to carry on with the spannering, but I'm not sure that I want to stay with aircraft although I'm not ruling anything out I'd even go and work in an office or do electrical work if it brings in the cash. The current front-runner is rolling stock and traction maintenance, big stuff that's complicated and noisy. [:D]
I've got experience in a field that probably 90% of the wider world can't directly relate too, too most people (this includes pilots) aircraft are big shiny complicated things that work through some sort of magic (like nuclear submarines) [:D] The thing is, to me it's just my job. Good job that someone has helped me to actually work out what useful skills I do have.

Of course, there's also the outside chance that things will go down what is currently a totally unexpected path and I'll get the offer of three more years. I'm aware that I'm at a bit of a crossroads now, I'm old enough to have some good experience under my belt but young enough that I can carve out a new career -or- I can stick with what I'm doing now and try and gain promotion.

Unlike a majority of people, I've started my resettlement stuff as early as I could. I'm planning on getting the boot as part of the planned cuts to manning, I'll just be classed as natural wastage and shown the door. So now I've got 18 months to try and figure out where I want to go and how to get there. Plan for the worst and hope for the best...

You just never know with these RAF types...

For the record, you INP'ed with "THE THREAD" in the subject line and then went back to edit it to the unspeakable. That's so cheating, it's not even funny. [:'(]

It's not as laughable as INP'ing two posts early. [:D]

Got told today that my CV* needed to be 'more geeky' after being told yesterday that it shouldn't be too technical.  I've teched it up now, maybe I should go through and replace as much as possible with TLAs so beloved of the military and technical worlds. [:D]

*Not a seagoing vessel for the transportation, basing and operation of heavier than air flying machines.

USN -> IBM = TLA's out the wazoo! [:D]

My high school resume:

Chess club..... president
board wargames... check (it was when my track coach saw me playing one of these that he got us to start a chess club)
D&D...... it had been released during those years but we didn't discover it until after graduation
National Honor Society... fooled them!
Who's Who..... them too!

to offset:
Cross country team: 4 years, captain in senior year
Track (mile, 2 mile): Winter and spring: 4 years

I was still considered a geek, but those same jocks now act as if I was well liked. Go figure...
fair winds,
Brad
