And more WWII based film drama coming this month: Denial

And again a good looking cast here: Rachel Weisz, Tom Wilkinson and Timothy Spall - plus that geezer from Sherlock!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/denial/

Can't wait!
Seems interesting. [:)]

Although I thought you disliked the previous WWII film that Rachel Weisz was in.
warspite1

Which film?
Enemy at the Gates.

Edit: I liked it though.

I don't recall ever saying I didn't like this film. Whilst not in my top 5, I found it entertaining enough. IIRC its got that cool dude Ed Harris, its got the beautiful Ms Weisz and it had some great shots - particularly at the start where the troops are being fed into the battle over the Volga, the skies above which are dominated by the Lutwaffe.

Then I was wrong. I did recall it being bashed some years ago. I thought you were involved but apparently not. My bad. [:(] Sorry.

That's okay [:)]. I've bashed plenty of war films in my time - I cannot imagine bashing that one.

Whilst not in my top 5,
Do you have a war film top list? Say, a top 10, or something? The world would like to know.

...but in all seriousness I don't know, I'm sure I've cobbled together a top 5 or ten or something in the past. Times and tastes change - plus it helps if one's seen something recently as a reminder of how good/bad it was.

indeed.

Obviously it is a list that would be in fluctuation and change over time. But I would find it interesting all the same.

But I guess it would be something like:

1. Schindler's List (the best film ever made has to top the best war film category by definition).
2. Battle of Britain
3. Conspiracy (not sure if this counts as a war film - but it should be compulsory viewing for every school child).

But then what? Tora, Tora, Tora, Saving Private Ryan, The Great Escape.

Next bucket: Where Eagles Dare, Dam Busters, Ice Cold in Alex, A Bridge Too Far

I'm bound to have forgotten something, but if not lets say:

4. Tora, Tora, Tora
5. The Great Escape
6. Saving Private Ryan
7. Where Eagles Dare
8. A Bridge Too Far
9. Dam Busters
10. Ice Cold In Alex

Was Das Boot a film? I only recall seeing a series, but may have been cut down into a film. If so then that would rank highly.

And there you go - forgot one of the bestest ever [8|]

No.4 Operation Daybreak - everyone else drops down one and Ice Cold loses its place.

It must be classified as a film since it was first released as a film.

Cut from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Das_Boot

The first version to be released was the theatrical 150-minute (2½-hour) cut, released to theatres in Germany in 1981, and in the United States in 1982. It was nominated for six Academy Awards (Cinematography, Directing, Film Editing, Sound (Milan Bor, Trevor Pyke and Mike Le Mare), Sound Effects Editing, and Writing).

Well that would need to be in there. And I've forgotten another one - Memphis Belle. Only ever saw it once, but really liked it.

Tricky, isn't it. And even trickier considering there is a whole bunch of good war movies covering other wars. Some good mini series out there as well.
