Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Allied #2. Arabian Sea. Round 2.

Both sides (again) find. However, the RN has exactly enough surprise points to avoid combat, which is what they do.

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. USSR Ground Strikes x 4.

The USSR has designated 4 ground strikes (3 air and 1 artillery). Only the designated air ground strikes are shown. The Luftwaffe can intercept two. Do you wish to intercept one or both of these two? I believe the Soviets have no fighters in position to counter if you do.

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Allied #2. Fortress Europe.

Do you see an chinks in this armor? I sure don't? With the Soviets battling for their very existence and the pressure mounting on the US and Great Britain to do something ... I see only one reasonable thing they can do ...

Resignation is a reasonable alternative.... [:)]
I thought I knew how to play this game....

Pat and I started this game back last year at the first of July. So, we've been at it for 8 months. That's quite an investment to get to the point we're at. While I don't enjoy getting my headed handed to me, I do enjoy learning as much as I have from a competitive and better player in Pat. I do want to see if, or for how long, I can keep the Soviet Union alive. And, whether or not the Western Allies can get and stay ashore in Europe or Western Africa. So for now my philosophy is to make the next move based on the current situation.

Pat or I need to upload our game turn for any to see. It's really impressive how strong all the axis are. The Japanese navy is a sight to see, unless you're playing the allies that is. [:)]

The FW190 near Kursk will intercept the attack on it's own hex. No other interception.

Things are looking good for the Axis, but I have played this game long enough to know how quick it can turn.

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Allied #2. USSR. Ground Strike #4.

4 attempted ground strikes and 1 of 10 German units disorganized, not to mention a Soviet bomber shot down. Not the results I was looking for or desperately needed.

SO42 i3
Japan and Italy take combined actions. Germany takes a land. Thought long and hard about a GE combined or even air, but there were too many tempting targets.

Japan moves a CA off the Eastern Coast of Japan and a small fleet, includes three loaded transports, into the Sea of Japan.
Italy flies a fighter to the 1-box of the CSV and a BB to the 4-box of the E. Med.

As shown below, Japan declines to initiate in the China Sea and S. China Sea.

However, they will initiate in the Arabian Sea.

In the first round both sides find and the allies have 2 surprise points. I used the two surprise points to reduce the Allied naval air attack to ne effect. Note, in the first two rounds I had the CW sub avoid action.

In round 2 both sides again find and again the JP make it a naval air battle. With only 1 CW SP, the combat is all predetermined and the CW CA must take an A, which it fails and is aborted (where to?).

In round 3 I had the CW commit the subs since there was nobody in a higher box to try to provide screening for the convoys. This time the axis found on rolls of 2/7 and engaged only the 0-box. After much thought, the JP make it a surface and use 2 SP to reduce their damage to ne and 6 SP to increase the CW damage to X D 3A. How would you like to apply it?

Note, I just about applied it in the following fashion: X on CA, D on CA if available, A's on remaining CP. I saw no way of not clearing the sea box. However, I started worrying if you wanted to save the CA from being likely destroyed or to loose the CP's. It is about the same BP, but there is a much longer time frame to recover from the lost CA.

1. Aborts from the Arabian sea to Victoria.

2. Apply the destroy to the CA Liverpool. If it survives then apply the damage to it. If not, apply damage to one of the CP. Aborts to Victoria.
