After he mopping up I will have 1 x lvl 9, 1 x lvl 7, 5 x lvl 6 and 2 x lvl 4 AF's its brute force but it should work I will need all my air HQ's and a large chunk of the allied aviation regiments but no base will retain much in the way of supplies after a couple of weeks bombardment

March of the Red Death

Post by Andy Mac »

OK the Red Army is on the move.

Initial thoughts.

Forces are very widely seperated if PZB defends the outer perimeter of bases I may have an issue as my forces will take time to penetrate and join up into the one stack steamroller we all know you need in WITP.

I have zero hopes for the red AF its mostly FB's and LA 7's and the pilot xp is in the 60's - chances of taking on Reppus and Shindens - none....

The old WWIII joke for the soviet AF springs to mind - 2 Russian Tank Generals underneath the Eiffel Tower as the tanks pass in review - one says to the other BTW who won the air war..... ?

The AA associated with Soviet forces is formidable I doubt PZB will make much progress slowing me down from the air.

p.s. a single Marine Corsair is in Vladivostock I have no idea how he got there......

Supplies are an issue Soviets are quite short by allied standards.

Broadly after my frontier penetrations there will be 3 Fronts

Northern Front - Objective Harbin
Central Front - Diversionary aiming at Harbin as well
Southern Front - Northern Korea

I seem to be short a lot of troops in the red Army I wonder if I should wait for the 8th August my troops may still be converting to Corps !!!!

I think the Northern Front needs to seriously establish itself ready to deploy south quickly !!!

The current VP count is around 89950 to 111506 -- about 1.24x to the Allies.  Japan has 11450 in base points, so you should be able to whittle that down by a certain amount in India and China, say 5000 from him to youand it 84K to 117K, 1.39x to the Allies and more than half way to a 1.5x victory.  That's not counting major Japanese army losses, strat bombing (2 a-bombs) and a favorable air war

Hmmmm only problem is I need 1.8x for the draw I am hoping for a bunch of points for eliminating Japanese pockets on Luzon !!!.

The army needs a rest though so this will take time.

I dont like initial Soviet deployments I want to concentrate everything into one almighty mass and deliver a crushing blow to the Japanese.

Harbin is the key and my troops will congregate there.

Supplies are a real concern as the Japanese are light on supplies.

I am annoyed with myself over India/Ceylon

My losses have not been inconsequential I took my eye off the ball and lost a lot more than I really wanted to for a sideshow.

After I secure Lingyen and Naga I am going to leave eliminating the pockets to the armoured Regts the Inf have worked to hard they need a long rest in Manila and Clark atr least a month will be required to absorb replacements build prep points for the next objectinve and also gather in the extra av regts HQ and base forces I will need  for future operations.

The Russians will take up the slack short term but medium term a campaign towards the HI backed by an air armada based on Luzon is the next USN move

Ok the concentration is still underway not a lot else to say my troops are gathering at Clark and Manila to rest up while the armour is going to attack and finish the clear job.

Not much more to say really

A small auto convoy was sent to Vladivostock and has been crucified - I depend on Auto convoy but some times its annoying !!!

This was the last combat report I should do pretty pictures but I am tired and off to bed you can see the auto convoy getting attacked and the Soviets going through the frontline main issue is supplies - supplies in Russia are very low I am worried I may run out

Just a thought ahead to the HI invasion, but would an a-bomb strike on the landing zone the turn before be useful?  This would probably only hold if the LZ was a desirable economic target as well, but I'd like to see the effetcs of an a-bomb strike on a concentration of 100-200K troops and then see you hit them with a concentrated invasion force

Andy,

stop those shock attacks against already defeated enemy troops. You're only disabling your own troops, there is no benefit from reaching a 118:1 vs. a 2:1 (against troops without forts). Actually you should even bombard enemy troops for some turns once you have defeated them and then you can just do a deliberate attack against them.

I thought I had to get my odds up to destroy them I need to get rid of them fast !!!

(also I dont like my Fighters gaining experience in this way - it feels to much like cheating so as soon as I can get rid of the holdouts I will no training camps wipe em out - exterminate them as soon as possible !!!!) .

Plus most of the Infantry is now withdrawing to Clark to rest leaving just Arty and Armour so shock attacks work best for Amrour.

OK a few points on Manchuria

I stopped the thrust West from Vladivostock and sent the forces North instead.

Two of my thrusts are in the mountains where PZB has concentrated a large number of troops at a base so x12 defender multiple - I have no intention of attacking these bases - lvl 9 forts plus mountains = impossible to take even for the Soviets so I am not going to waste my time.

Of the 5 routes to central Manchuria 2 are protected by mountainous bases and will be invested but not attacked.

The other 3 will converge on central manchuria flanking the other 2 bases and forcing a withdrawal - I have no intention of throwing away good troops on an unwinnable fight that would wreck my speahead.

(In fact as soon as I am in the clear in the centre and converging on Harbin I will divert the majority of the forces committed to the two mountainous bases into the centre as 2nd Echelon troops.

I was talking about artillery bombardments (additionally having bombers on ground attack does help, of course). The trick is to disable as many Japanese combat squads as possible to force them to surrender/banzai. To do this, very high odds are not neccessary. You'll (basically) disable as many enemy squads with artillery bombardments as with shock attacks (without disabling your own squads/devices in the process). Do artillery bombardments for 3-5 turns and then do a deliberate attack. Should work faster than shock attacks (because you'll attack with more functional devices = causing higher casualties = more disabled Japanese squads = better odds to have them surrender/banzai).

I agree. Bombarment+deliberate attacks are far more usefull in this kind of situation

x3 for mountains + x3 for level 9 forts = x6 defense multiplier.

Nevertheless, better to isolate them first.

Wouldn't it be multiplicative? 3x X 3x = 9x
