I worked out a way to get P-40's from China to Clark/Bataan. If you divide the squadron you can fly out 8 at a time to a base in SE China with just enough supply for drop tanks...otherwise they get stuck. Its quite brilliant I tell you. Converted one of the two plane P-38E squadrons to P-39, which has a higher number so is obviosuly better.

We had my Dad's internment ceremony yesterday. USAF sent three airmen down from March AFB. Very moving flag folding ceremony and Taps. We went over to my sister's place afterward and everyone told stories. Very much needed. Great stories. Many I had never heard. Someone worked out my Dad had been to Washington 500 times in his career. He more than once got upgrades to first class and high end suites because he happened to have the same name as a famous cabinet secretary [:D].

One time the White House called his suite looking for the cabinet dude and was alarmed that a woman answered...my mom. [:)] One time he was demonstrating an electronic bug direction finder that could detect the microwatt emanations from the tuning circuit of the RECEIVING device. The Secret Service was so impressed they sent a car to his hotel and invited him the the WH to demonstrate it and requisitioned the only prototype on the spot. Sale made. One time some RAF dudes and British subcontractors flew in to SoCal so they went fishing on my brother's boat out in the kelp beds...and they all got busted for not having fishing licenses. [;)] The company paid the fines.

One time he was in Europe for an international project and they were working with a German and Italian firm but they had some last minute technical issues and had to buff the proposal for a Monday morning presentation worth hundreds of millions. The Americans and Germans ordered in food, rolled up their sleeves and worked all weekend and the Italian engineers went out drinking and partying. Some other stuff I would have to kill you if I told you.[:)]

We worked out his kids and grandkids had over 100 student years at the same high school and he probably attended over 19,000 athletic events including a mixed-twins Mildred Morrow Elementary School tennis tournament with only two teams...and he kept the trophy...but had to hide because my brother did not want anyone to come to match.[:)]

After all these stories we started drinking. That was fun too.

Historically, the USN had trouble bringing the the Corsair into action on the carriers due to the extra pilot training required.
