One could just as easily assume the anomaly is with the getting of one partisan because of the wording "equal or less", FREX a partisan number of 1 (which Burma used to be, but now is a 2). But originally there would be no way to get a partisan in Burma even with a garrison of zero, had the wording been just: "less than the partisan number".

So this could in fact be what the designers intended.

This is absolutely true, but as it is now, the system for getting partisans is basically following two distinct mathematical formulas, depending on how high the target is. That is what bothers me.

I have removed Bill, DavidT, Patrice and Max since I have heard nothing from them in a long while. They are of course welcome back as soon as they wish but I think it might be better to have the countries open for new takers.

Anyone who wish to help out is most welcome. This is truly a cooperative job because the scope is huge. We are essentially creating the largest database for corps of the WWII ever. This is a huge task and we need YOU to pitch in. It is very interesting and I dare say you will learn a lot.

With the latest submission from Michael B I can gladly inform everyone that we passed the 200 limit for writeups! That means over 20% done! Well done everyone who has pitched in and lets head for 300 as soon as is humanly possible. I will celebrate this fine occasion by posting some of the latest work later tonight. [:)]

Help is always needed. Please contribute.

Hmm the program added a bulleted point on the last write-up even though it looks ok in the file. Ignore it for now please :-)

capitan, do you have access to John Ellis "WWII databook" ?
I have it, and saw that it contains a whole lot of informations about the WW2 units of all the countries.

I would love to type that info for you and those who create those writups, but did not find the time & motivation yet, prefering to work on subjects that I love most such as the map, and the unit database updating.

This "This unit symbolizes the 6th South African Armoured division" strikes me as strange.
Why is the 4th South African MOT Corps represented only by 1 division ?

Hmmm I have not! It seems that the library does not have it either :-( Buying it is a bit out of my range this month.

About the write-up I will let MichaelB answer that.

the division was powerfull and it had alot of smaller allied units attact to it .....the 4 sa corps ..... never realy existed ... it only had a division commander..... it was under a allied corps commander .................. and the other sa corps never existed either. the 2 divisions fought in the same battles but they never fought as a unit ...

So the corps formation is just a nod to the standard WiF scale.

The general's name probalby has a B. as one of his initials. The program interprets B. as a bullet point. I have been in the habit of simply dropping initials or replacing them with the actual name.

We have to be very careful about plagarism here. Simply copying text from another source for inclusion in the MWIF is illegal without the authorization of the original author.

Instead, several sources should be used and an edited summary/amalgamation of their information used. I believe you will often find disagreements between different authors, so the final text in MWIF will at least partially reflect your own opinion.

I agree, but the book of John Ellis has no text, nearly only tables, with figures & dates.

It is well worth adding this stuff to the writeup. I find beauty in the text writeups when they describe the irregular aspects of the unit formations. When playing WIF, I tend to think of each unit as a single entity, with each 7-5 mechanized (for example) equal to all other mechanized units with the same numbers. In fact, the number and unit types are generalizations. Most units evolved over the course of the war, and rarely did two of them match. Adding some of that information to the more unusual unit descriptions is lovely.

Jimm has just finished some fine write-ups for Italy, meaning that 25% of the Italian landunits are done! Hooray for Jimm [:D]

We are still looking for people who want to contribute! Do a small country for fun and see if you like it, it sure would help out as the task is rather large. I am gathering information about various countries here and there that can be of help if you sign up.

I will post one of Jimms units in a few days for everyone to enjoy!
