In Nemo's Mod, the Allies have to survive till 9/42 to get the Mustang XP (30/mo). Then in 10/42 we get the first of the P-38s (46/mo). When 1/43 rolls around, the Corsairs start coming out in huge numbers for both the CVs (54/mo) and Army planes (120/mo). The Hellcats come in with 170/mo.  We'll be OK until then. [8D]

It is also late '42 before we get a lot of everybody's favourite - the four engined fighter! [;)]

Johnston is now 45/43/0. VP-9 arrived at San Diego and has moved to Pearl. 3 new subs arrived and sailed to Manila via minelaying trips to various Jap controlled destinations. 193rd Tank Bn, 1st USMC Air Wing are loading onto transports for Noumea. VMF 111, VMF121, VMSB131 and VMSB 132 are on board the new air transport CVL Hammondsport and will sail with the convoy.

8 new 10,000 ton TKs are sailing to the South Pacific Entry hex to start a fuel/oil shuttle service. 4 others are loading 40,000 tons of fuel for Brisbane. In Brisbane the 91st BS (A-20s) arrived. They flew immediately to Koepang.

Here is another Tracker example. It's a filtered Alerts screen with only major alerts showing. The worst turn for sinkings for a while, but it would have been a lot worse if they had been caught on the outward journey...

AK Kyokku Maru took one torp from K-XV on her way to Malaya (19 casualties and 2 vehicles). Moulmein, Tarakan and Davao were bombed, the latter by 6 Zekes, 21 Vals, 51 Jeans, 75 Kates. This is obviously prep for the arrival of an invasion force. There have been two SigInt flashes about a Brigade planning for Davao. A Pp Division is waiting for them...

My units are safely out of Lingayen. I do not like to give ground before time, but did not want to risk having an entire Div cut off.

VP-101 has moved to Darwin to start evacuating troops from the PI. The fragment of the Asiatic Fleet at Puerto Princesa is the first order of business. The three damaged Australian MSWs from Singapore, escorted by their undamaged sister, will sail from Soerabaya to Broome.

My bombers were brutally dealt with over Johore Bharu today. A crack Zeke unit knocked down 5 B-339s, 8 Martin 139s, 4 B-17Ds and 6 B-17Es for one loss. All units are on Naval Attack to recover and one M-139 unit has had to disband.

I must be short of Lysanders because RAF 28 Sqn arrived at Aden with FK-51s! 605 Sqn arrived with Hurri Is also and both squadrons loaded for Bombay. IAF Volunteer Reserve 4 Flight upgraded to the Blenheim IV on arrival at Karachi. The unit flew to Imphal.

Over China a P-43A was shot down by Jap CAP over Ichang. ROC 1st Cav Div, which arrived last turn has been sent to India. I have given orders for Schwebo, but as they are horse cavalry I think, I had better send them further back into India as a reserve at the border. I cannot afford to waste the pps changing them back to China Command and cancelling as I will need to build up the points to change HQs for my Marine units on their way to SOPAC from PacFlt.

Here are some of today's arrivals...

13/01/42

The subs Argonaut and S-18 were both attacked by ASW forces at Wake. Neither were damaged and they laid their mine cargoes and left safely.

Palmyra Island was heavily hit by the KB. 1 PBY was destroyed in return for 1 Val and 1 Kate, with 3 Vals damaged. The raid consisted of 9 Zekes, 117 Vals and 132 Kate. The damage from the raid will be revealed in the Tracker shot I intend to use when reporting on China. Johnston is now 45/34/0.

47th Engineers are unloading at Noumea. It has taken just over a month for them to travel from SF.

A small landing force has detached from the Mini KB and is discharging at Gen. Santos near Davao. K-X has been diverted to lay mines there.

Moulmein, Tarakan and ground forces at Johore Bharu were bombed. 2 CVA raids on Davao hit ground forces and the airfield. AP Kansan Maru took a torpedo from Beauforts out of Clark. The remnant of Chinese 30th Attack Squadron left Manila for Chungking to reconstitute. RAAF No2 Sqn flew their Beauforts in to replace them, along with the US 427th BS with their B-25Ds. The reason for this is that Mike has an ASW force just offshore attacking my evacuation subs. If I still had Pe-2s available he would be screwed, but in their absence I have sent the best of what's left, despite the risks involved in using Australian airmen in combat at the moment.

VP-101 has rescued the fragment of Asiatic Fleet at Puerto Princesa and moved to Kendari to start picking up the rest from Manila.

DD Scout has been withdrawn at Aden. My PP fine this month will be 300 points, but I have two different CV forces in the field (and of them, the decoy force has no destroyers) and some BBs that have no escorts at Colombo. Jap subs are rampant and I simply cannot spare any more escorts yet. I also have another CV arriving in 16 days (HMS Formidable) and will have to ensure I have sufficient escorts for her.

RAF 242 Sqn is unloading at Bombay (from Aden). RNZAF 488 Sqn and RAF 243 Sqn are unloading at Colombo (from Singapore via Batavia). 6th HAA Rgt is unloading at Calcutta. 1st Chinese Cavalry Division, assigned to SEAC, will now proceed to the Indian Border. Once at Jorhat it will divide and cover the bases currently occupied by 20th Indian Div,which will then move forward to Imphal and Kohima.

Here is a screenie showing the work underway at Perth. It is hard work getting enough supplies in, but such a large repair yard so close to the action will be enormously helpful. I am sure Mike will feel the same, so I will have to ensure I get enough supplies in to allow the defending units to fill out.

China

The LRCAP ambush shot down a Sonia and a Mary today.

I am going to attempt a shock attack at Ichang when the new Field Armies arrive (hopefully tomorrow). One is going in at Nanchang today just as a test and to hopefully distract Mike from whatever else he is doing/planning.

Here is the damage at Palmyra Island...

Mike is still super busy so there have been no updates. My wife is about to give birth so I will be distracted for a couple of days too.

Is it just me or does the Tojo look a bit deadly?

GBL ... what a nice bit of British understatement when you said,"I will be distracted for a couple of days too." about the impending birth of your child ... All the best to you and your family.

BTW, the new Tracker release gives added info about the enemies sunk ships amongst other things ... although if you want to wait a few more weeks we'll probably have something new for you again ... if you do upgrade the standard and extended ranges are included but wrong for this mod as we forgot to count the number of drop-tanks ...

I haven't got the Tojo yet against Michael, but it will be an interesting match up ... right now I'm already too scared to throw my Zekes or 109's against his forces in Burma.

Cheers & all the best.

Hi Damian

Many thanks for your kind words. If I upgrade my Tracker will I lose all my turns already stored? Fantastic tool by the way!

Very best regards

Kingfishers out of Lahaina spotted a Jap sub South of Kona, but I can't go after it due to the KB still being in the area. 8 Zekes, 115 Vals and 130 Kates hit Christmas Island, destroying 2 Catalinas and heavily damaging the air base for the loss of 2 Kates with a handful damaged. Palmyra is now 0/39/72, Christmas Island is 0/25/51. 4 DMs out of Pearl are off to mine Pearl while USS Oglala mines Kona.

As you can see from the screenie, the KB's present course is a bit of a worry...

The Japs occupied recently evacuated Lingayen and captured Gen Santos. Moulmein, Tarakan, Johore Bharu and Davao were bombed, the latter by CVA.

AK Thames Maru was hit off Kota Bharu by a bomb dropped by a B-17D based at Batavia. She was heavily damaged and was laden with troops.

Off the PI APD Patrol Boat 36 was hit by 4 bombs and a torpedo. In my haste I did not notice if she sank, but I would certainly hope so! A Beaufort was shot down, with 2 more damaged. The B-25s that participated were unscathed.

242 Sqn RAF moved by rail from Bombay to Dacca as the air defence of India receives slightly more modern fighters. 2 Royal Sovereign class BBs sailed from Colombo for Batavia escorted by 4 newly arrived fleet destroyers. They are slow and vulnerable, but the opportunity to do some mischief with their 15 inch guns may present itself. They can always run away if it gets too hot...

Over Nanchang, FO W. Berg of 3rd Sqn AVG became the first Allied Ace of the Pacific War. Today's ambushes netted 2 Marys, 2 Sonias and 3 Nates in return for 1 P-40E. Over Ichang a Jap Nate CAP shot down a P-43A and damaged 4 SB-2s.

The Chinese shock attack at Nanchang dropped Jap forts from 3 to 1. Chinese casualties were 2621/48 to 635/21 on the Jap side, but I think the Chinese are just about good to go again, so the attack will continue. A shock attack will also go in at Ichang. If I can get some success it will be easier to hold on to the cities and may draw Mike's attention away from something more important.

Mike is really busy and will be up against it for a while. My wife is ill and is still in hospital and little Freddie will be in until at least Wednesday, but he does not need oxygen anymore and is feeding by mouth. My wife had an emergency c-section so I'll be at hospital a lot as she is having complications and I will probably lack free time when she gets out. We are keeping the game going, but turn rates will drop off for at least 6 weeks.
