The weather finally clears over Manus and Port Moresby. The USAAF strategic bomber reserve is again released from Australia and is staged to 5th Air Force at Port Moresby. General Kenney of 5th Air Force decides to bomb the Japanese AF at Manus that recon shows to be basing 75 fighters and 40 bombers. I hit the wrong button when trying to stage P-38Fs to Port Moresby to escort the airstrike so instead of having 35 P-38Fs sweeping Manus at high altitude I only have 13 P-38Fs sweeping.

This result is very disturbing as Dave defeated the cream of Allied combat forces...elements of 7th Australian and 18th UK Divisions were roughly handled. Recon shows that Japan just landed another 40,000 troops at Rangoon. Together...these 2 results indicate that my previous hope to overrun SE Asia by the end of the year is only a pipe dream. I need to rest my troops and regain disabled squads.

In China....Chinese troops captured Kweiteh.

I had invested Taiyuan in the far north with 2700 Chinese AV and it appears that Dave has now railed his entire northern reserve into Chengting to confront this advance. That leaves the Japanese front almost devoid of combat troops at Suchow and now there is nothing to stop the Chinese from cutting off northern China from central China by severing the railroad at Suchow.

The USAAF heavy bomber strikes go in without escorts and before the P-38F sweeps for the 2 days of airstrikes at Manus...even with General Kenney at command of 5th Air Force we havent had a coodinated strike with escorts or after the sweepers go in in 4 attempts now. Port Moresby reached a level 6 AF this turn and Im not sure what else I could do to get better strike coodination.


Still...Manus is now 61% damaged and 16 Oscars were destroyed on the ground. Overall Japan lost 46 AC to 23 Allied AC this turn.



PHILIPPINES


Air, naval and ground bombardments at manila this turn as both sides rest their forces.

The Allies still have 26,000 supplies at Manila plus another 12,000 supplies next door at batangas.

Burma Corps captures Lashio.

After shooting down 30 Tojos 1 turn ago over Taung Gyi with P-38s sweeps Dave decided not to LRCAP the base this turn. Rangoon is the largest remaining operational AF for Japan in Burma. I will now rest the P-38s until Akyab is enlarged to a level 5 AF(now over 60% completion) and then they will sweep and escort a massed 4E attack from the base over Rangoon.

I cant kick the Japanese troops out of Taung Gyi now so the IJA 15th Army will make good on its escape to southern Burma.

It looks like Dave has railed half a dozen divisions into Suchow so the Chinese offensive is halted and everyone outside Suchow is ordered to fall back on Kaifeng.

Fairly quiet in Burma as we reorganize Eastern Army and Burma Corps.

Akyab has over 80% completion of a level 5 AF and as soon as its completed we will stage in the 4Es and hammer Rangoon.

Over 1000 AV of Indian armor has completed crossing of the river just SE and E of Akyab and now they are racing down the coastal road towards Prome.

I like the loss ratios but Im surprised to see only 5 IJA divisions attacking. Either Dave pulled back 4 divisions to Iba to rest...or he has committed those 4 divisions to another theatre and is adopting more of a siege strategy at Manila.

If Japan has in fact withdrawn 5 divisions from Luzon...Id expect most of them to be on their way to Burma.

Dave has reinforced both Taiyuan in the north and also Suchow by railing in troops. Ive pulled back my 2700 AV Chinese army from Taiyuan and I was attempting to pull back my troops from Suchow to Kaifeng.

This turn Dave has a force of 12 LCUs that has caught about 400 AV of my army in clear terrain just outside of Suchow. He will decimate these Chinese troops next turn before they can evacuate the hex. The other Chinese troops in the area will continue to withdraw towards Kaifeng.



THE AIR WAR


For the first 6 months of the war Dave and I were using our bombers almost primarily for bombing each others ground troops. For the last few months....Ive been using my level bombers almost exclusively for air superiority missions....shutting down Japanese airfields and destroying Japanese AC on the ground. We have both been using our fighters to sweep each others bases or troops at crucial hexes that have to be CAPed or LRCAPed.

Ive been able to shut down all the Japanese airfields in Burma by a combination of high altitude sweeps and 4E airfield attacks. This last turn I completed a level 5 AF at Akyab and before I could stage in my 4Es and P-38s Dave mostly evacuated all of his air force from Rangoon. Rangoon was the last big airfield left for Japan in Burma....last turn some 250 AC were there but now there remains a mere 24 fighters. Japanese air in SE Asia is now mostly based in Thailand.

In the south Pacific Ive also been able to use sweeps and level bomber attacks to shut down all of the Solomons and also mostly close Japanese airfields at Manus and Rabaul. This turn Dave staged some fighters and bombers into a level 2 AF at Gasmata and swept my base at Kirawina with Tojos on high altitude sweeps before bombing the shipping there:

The Allies end up losing 31 AC in A2A combat vs 11 Japanese AC. Individual plane losses include 16 P-39Ds, 12 P-40es and 10 Kittyhawk Ias. The P-39Ds and P-40Es have more than held their own against Oscars and A6M2s over the last 6 months in the south Pacific...but its obvious that they are now outclassed by the Tojo.

The P-38s are great at high altitude sweeps and long range escort but not so good for CAP due to their high service rating. I need to get some VMF squadrons with F4F-4s into the front line army AFs to tangle with the Tojos. Ive also finally gotten enough of the new Spitfire Vc Trops in the AC pools that I can upgrade an Aussie Kittyhawk squadron.


Meanwhile....Im staging in over 70 medium bombers to Woodlark Is. to shut down Gasmata.



SOPAC


With the notable exception of CV Saratoga.....virtually all of the USN capital ships are completing repairs and upgrades this turn and the next. USN, RAN, RNZN and RN ships from Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Pearl and the US west coast are all leaving port now to rendezvous at Noumea and Luganville for the next big SOPAC offensive.

CVE Altamaha and CVE Nassau arrive at Tacoma and are immediately sent to the south Pacific....that will give the USN 4 CVEs with 90 fighters to cover amphib assaults.

THE AIR WAR


Its been a month since I last posted air losses so here we go again.

The Allies have lost 4641 AC to date vs Japanese AC losses of 5359....about a 15% difference.


In A2A....the Allies have lost 2056 AC vs Japanese losses of 2318 AC....about a 13% difference.

THE AIR WAR.......continued


And here is a screenshot of Allied plane losses. Note that the Blenheim IV sits in 4th place....testament to the effects of poor coodination with escorts and sweeps. Unlike the 4Es....when the Blenheims go in without escorts they die...and this is representative of RAF medium bombers in general in SE Asia where most squadrons are at less than 50% effective strength. I havent bombed with RAF medium bombers in a few months....their primary mission now is to fly in supplies from India to rear area bases like Myitkina and Shwebo.

The other AC type that is climbing on the chart is the C-47 Skytrain. In my 1st game of AE the C-47s suffered the heaviest plane losses of any type...and over 95% of their losses will eventually be to Ops.... testament to what happens in AE when you are constantly flying AC at close to their maximum endurance.....even on flak free and CAP free "milk runs".

The 1st Marine Division continues to slug it through the muddy jungles of New Guinea towards Lae.

Allied medium bombers hammer Gasmata. The airfield there is now 68% damaged but we only detroyed 2 Japanese AC on the ground.

The 2 main Japanese airfields in the area are the level 4 AF at Manus and the level 6 AF at Rabaul. Manus AF is still 30% damaged from 5th Air Forces strike a couple of turns ago. 5th Air Force is mostly shut down now due to a shortage of P-38s. The P-38s are the only long range fighters the Allies have in this theatre and I just dont have enough replacements to simultaneously conduct aerial campaigns in the south Pacific and in Burma...... and Burma has priority right now. Im trying to keep 2 P-38 squadrons in action in both theatres.....but in SWPAC I have 1 nearly full strength P-38F squadron and 1 half strength P-38G squadron that is slowly building up. The 4Es are back in reserve in Australia...I had turned off their replacements a couple of months ago so that I could build a critical mass of 4Es in India....about 100 in total. But before SOPAC can renew its offensive into the northern Solomons I will need to neutralize both Manus and Rabaul so Ive turned on the 4E replacements in Australia.

The 3700 AV Japanese army in northern China continues to close in on Kaifeng.

In Burma....Indian armor will cross the river and attack Prome next turn.

The Allied 4Es fail to strike Moulmein AF due to poor weather. We will try to hit Moulmein again next turn.



CALM BEFORE THE STORM.......SOPAC FALL OFFENSIVE


There may not be any shooting going on in the Solomons now but SOPAC is a beehive of activity. Assault transports, CVs, CVEs, BBs, CAs, CLs and DDs converge on Noumea and Luganville from the 6 points of the compass. The long awaited resumption of the SOPAC offensive in the Solomons had to be delayed while virtually the entire US Navy upgraded and /or repaired. Now the SOPAC fall offensive into the northern Solomons should commence in about 5-6 turns.

The operational problem we need to solve in launching the offensive is the suppression of the two Japanese level 4 AFs at Manus and Kavieng and.....of course....the complete neutralization of the massive Japanese aerodrome at Rabaul. The level 2 SF at Gasmata is currently 100% damaged as are the level 4 AFs at Munda and Shortlands.

Right now...I only have 1 squadron of P-38Fs and about 12 P-38Gs that are capable of reaching the Japanese AFs at Manus, Kavieng and Rabaul.. Besides that...there are only enough 4Es to close 1 AF at at time. I will be using the Aussie Beaufighter Ic fighterbombers in a long range escort role to help the bombers get through....they are inadequately trained to stand up the the IJAAF aces in the Tojos and Oscars and I have about 20 available.

My most forward AF in the region....at Kiriwina...is only 7 hexes from Rabaul and I will have 2 squadrons of P-40Ks available to stage in there when the offensive begins......they are the only other USAAF fighter available with a range of greater than 6(7).

I have SWPAC making a lot of noise in New Guinea as the 1st Marine Division closes in on Lae. I also have PBYs reconning Japanese held islands in the Gilberts to create a distraction.

The 1st Phase of the SOPAC offensive will be a little dicey as long as the Japanese AFs are able to conduct flight ops.

One bit of good news....CV Saratoga has rapidly repaired her damage faster than estimated and should be able to leave Pearl Harbor in 4 days.

The cool thing here is that the Allies captured over 2300 sorely needed supplies at Prome.



Meanwhile...the 2700 AV Eastern Army continues to rest at Meiktila....licking their wounds suffered at Taung Gyi. In a couple turns they will begin to advance on Rangoon along with the Indian armor at Prome.


The P-38s fail to sweep Moulmein but the 4Es hammer the airfield. Six A6M2s and 19 Nicks are destroyed on the ground.....but 30 sortied to CAP the airfield and the Allies lose 5 precious 4Es. Moulmein is now 50% damaged and Rangoon is 75% damaged. A week ago there were over 200 Japanese fighters at Rangoon and now a mere 15 fighters remain between Moulmein and Rangoon.

Allied 4Es are ordered to hit Rangoon again next turn.

The Tenth Air Force orders heavy bomber strikes against both Rangoon and Moulmein.....the Nicks have been withdrawn and there is only a handfull of ineffective Tojos available to intercept the 4Es. Rangoon is left with 75% damage while Moulmein is now 81% damage.

Dave has now mostly withdrawn his fighter CAP from southern Burma.....yet he has 28 ships in port at Rangoon including CLs, DDs and SS. Only 300 AA guns at the port can protect his shipping now.

For the 1st time in 2 or 3 months....the USAAF and RAF medium bombers in India will be released from supply transport duty to port bomb Rangoon at 10,000'. There will be about 120 medium bombers on port attack and they will be joined by about 120 heavy bombers from Tenth Air Force. P-38s and Beuafighters will escort the bombers to target but it appears that there will be little if any CAP at Rangoon to oppose them.

I expect Dave to evacuate Rangoon harbor the following turn so SS Trusty will mine the river exits from Rangoon this turn while a half dozen Allied subs patrol the Andaman Sea.


Eastern Army continues to rest at Meiktila while Indian armor continues to mass at Prome.

Looks like Dave has 7 divisions at Manila now so evidently he didnt redeploy them to another theatre...they must have been resting at Iba.

CALM BEFORE THE STORM.....SOPAC FALL OFFENSIVE


Admiral Hill's amphib transports complete the loading of assault troops at Lunga....mostly all of the 2nd Marine Division will be used in the initial phase of the SOPAC fall offensive including including the 2nd and 8th Marine Regiments, 2nd USMC Tank and 2nd USMC Eng.

As far as I can tell....Dave's long range search and recon hasnt detected any of the Allied amphib TFs, carriers TFs and surface combat TFs assembling in the Coral Sea. He had been reconning Luganville every turn but this turn there was no recon at Luganville...and thats fortunate as newly repaired CV Lexington reached the port there this turn along with BB Washington. They quickly refuel and will leave port before daylight to rejoin the rest of the Allied TFs....now milling about in the southern reaches of the Coral Sea.

CVE Nassau and CVE Altamaha are still 3 days out from Luganville....and I may begin the offensive before they arrive. I have plenty of land based AC to cover the 1st phase of the SOPAC fall offensive. CV Saratoga requires 1 more day to complete repairs at Pearl and then she will rejoin the fleet.

All we are waiting for now is for the weather to clear over the major Japanese aerodrome at Rabaul....currently there is heavy rain there. The initial phase of the SOPAC fall offensive is being held at D-day minus 3 until we have decent weather over Rabaul. On D-Day minus 2...the heavy bomber reserve in Australia will be releaed to 5th Air Force to put Rabaul out of business while amphib and combatant TFs are staged from the southern Coral Sea to their jump off positions.

House Stark...thanx for your comments. I most certainly will launch the SOPAC offensive before Japan can recover their troops fighting on Luzon.SOPAC should complete its offensive and SWPAC should take Lae, Finschafen and Madang before Japanese reinforcements make their way to that theatre.

Burma....Im not so sure about. I am having huge supply issues....I cant seem to draw supplies to Meiktila. I have all my transport AC airlifting supplies into Myitkina and Shwebo and Magwe is producing 100 supplies/day so Im just resting Eastern Army until I can build up at least a little supply to launch an attack. I imagine that Japan will probably reinforce Burma before I can launch a serioius assault at Rangoon but we shall see.

Japan loses 2 CLs, 1 DMS, 6 AKL, 1 AP, 1 LSD, 2 AK and 1 CM in the port attack.


Allied air losses are huge.....the Allies lose 69 AC vs 51 Japanese AC.....49 of those AC in A2A combat. Most of Japan's are losses are from Ops as they flew LRCAP at extreme range.

Individual plane losses include 27 Tojos, 21 A6M2s, 14 B-25Cs, 12 Wellington Ics, 7 Blenheim IVs, 4 Hudson IIIas, 4 B-24Ds, 4 Beaufort Is, 5 B-26Bs and 4 B-26s. The Allied medium bombers in the CBI had been at 50% TOE before the attack but now they are probably down to 25% TOE.

There arent any ships left in Rangoon port for the Allied subs in the Andaman Sea to ambush.




PHILIPPINES

SOPAC FALL OFFENSIVE....PHASE I: INVASION SHORTLANDS.....D-DAY MINUS 2


The weather clears a bit over Rabaul to heavy clouds so the SOPAC invasion sequence advances to D-Day minus 2. Over 100 4Es are staged into Woodlark from Australia...escorted by 20 Beaufighters they will bomb the AF at Rabaul. Dave has over 70 fighters at Rabaul. Nearly 150 P-40Ks and 40 P-38s will sweep Rabaul.

Adm Hill's amphib TF.....with most of the 2nd Marine Division embarked....will advance to its invasion jump off point this turn about 8 hexes S of Shortlands. Allied carrier TFs and surface TFs sortie from the southern Coral Sea to the N to be in position to cover the landings on Shortlands.

The objective of the 1st Phase of the offensive will be to close Rabaul AF and capture Shortlands. Then medium bombers and short ranged fighters will be staged into Shortlands to keep Rabaul AF neutralized. The 4Es can then be staged into Port Moresby to suppress Manus and Kavieng. Then SOPAC will commence Phase II of its fall offensive.

I havent received a turn in almost a week now as Dave has been busy with RL. I havent said much about logistics up to this point in the war but now I have time to mention some of the more mundane but absolutely vital aspects of the game.



INDIAN OCEAN CONVOY ROUTES


Ive attached a screenshot of the main convoy and secondary convoy routes for the Allies. At the start of the war.... I gathered up all the excess shipping from India and the DEI and sent about 150 of the long ranged xAKs and xAPs to the US west coast as the Allies have a much greater deficiency of shipping in the eastern Pacific at the start of the war. The shorter ranged xAKs from the DEI and India were sent to Abadan and Aden and about 50 of the extremely long ranged xAKs were staged to Capetown. The TKs were all carrying fuel from Abadan to Karachi but now that the Allies have over 2.3 million fuel at Karachi and 250,000 fuel at Calcutta the longer ranged TKs are hauling the fuel now to Perth. The extremely long ranged xAKs(15,000-17,000 endurance) carry supplies from Capetown to Perth but recently Ive sent some convoys from Capetowwn to Calcutta in an effort to provide more supply to be sucked to the Burmese border and Ledo. I also have secondary convoys from Abadan carrying supplies to Calcutta.



PACIFIC OCEAN CONVOY ROUTES


The main Allied convoys routes in the Pacific extend from LA and San Diego to Luganville and Noumea. Secondary xAK convoys then carry supplies from Luganville to the Solomons and Port Moresby while secondary TK convoys carry fuel from Noumea to Sydney. My biggest logistical issue to date has been trying to get sufficient fuel to Australia. After a score of WitP games Ive finally figured out how to shut down HI(duh) so Ive turned off HI at Melbourne and Sydney and now Im slowly building up fuel levels in Oz. After being critically short of fuel in Oz for the first 8 months of the war the Abadan/Perth and Noumea/Sydney convoys have built up fuels levels to 227,000 fuel at Melbourne, 387,000 fuel at Sydney, 30,000 fuel at Perth and 25,000 fuel at Brisbane. I have about 100 long ranged xAKs....4 TFs of 25 ships apiece....also transporting fuel to Noumea and Luganville to supplement the TKs.



SWPAC


Secondary convoys have been sending troops and supplies from Luganville to Port Moresby and there are now 33,000 supplies at Port Moresby. The supplies at Port Moresby are easily drawn through the jungle to Buna(36,000 supplies) and Salamaua(44,000 supplies) so I dont think that I will have too much difficulty sucking the supplies all the way up to Lae and beyond as SWPAC advances.



SOPAC

Im launching the SOPAC fall offensive next turn and have been stockpiling fuel and supplies in the theatre for awhile.

Currently there are 200,000 supplies and 300,000 fuel at Noumea and 380,000 supplies and 180,000 fuel at Luganville. There is another 170,000 supplies at Lunga while AOs sailing with the invasion forces are carrying another 100,000 fuel at sea.

CBI


The heavy bombers of Tenth Air Force hit Rangoon port again but no shipping is left in the harbor.

China is relatively quiet.

I only have 5 Chinese A-29s left and no more are being built.....but I just thought of a good use for them. Many Japanese players run tanker convoys from Singapore back to Japan by hugging the coastline of China. I currently have over a half dozen subs on patrol between Formosa and southern Japan. This turn I staged the Chinese A-29s to Nanchang and Im using their 14 hex range for naval search. They can search the IJN sea lanes all around Formosa and cover from Indochinese waters to the Home Islands. If this helps my sub patrols I may launch an offensive with the Chinese army to recapture a coastal port and extend my naval search radius deeper into Japanese waters.



PHILIPPINES


Dave continues to rest his troops on Luzon and merely bombards at Manila.



AUSTRALIA


Four Aussie armor regiments reach Derby and a deliberate attack is ordered for next turn.



SOPAC FALL OFFENSIVE.....INVASION SHORTLANDS: D-DAY MINUS ONE


Adm Hills amphib TF reaches its jump off point 8 hexes to the south of Shortlands. Next turn they will race in at full speed and the 2nd Marine Division will assault the beaches tomorrow. Six Allied CVs, 1 CVL and 4 CVEs stand by to cover the landings. So far it appears that the invasion and support TFs have remained unspotted by long ranged Japanese search planes so surprise should be total. Over 150 medium bombers based at Deboyne Is., Rossel Is., Russell Is. and Lunga will ground attack the Japanese troops on Shortlands.

Unfortunately...I had poor weather....thunderstorms....over Rabaul. The 40 P-38Fs and 75 P-40Ks all swept Rabaul and fought a large air battle with over 80 Japanese AC on CAP. The heavy bombers of Fifth Air Force hit Rabaul for 2 days but with the inclement weather they only caused 31% damage to the airfields there. After the 2 day air battle Japan loses 57 AC vs 48 Allied AC. In A2A Japan lost 39 AC vs 31 Allied AC. Individual plane losses include 29 A6M2s, 32 Oscars, 14 P-40Ks, 12 Beaufighter Ics, 7 Beaufighter Vcs and 7 of the precious P-38Fs.

At the end of the turn.....it appears that Dave has evacuated the airfields at Rabaul....only 3 fighters remain there. I think that Dave will instead LRCAP Rabaul next turn from the level 4 AF at Kavieng. I am worried that Dave may send in a bombardment TF to Woodlark Island so I staged all the heavy bombers back to Port Moresby....and next turn the 4Es will strike Kavieng.

The defeated Japanese remnants retreat to Torokina.


A 2nd amphib TF immediately begins unloading construction engineers, base forces, an air HQ and thousands of additional supplies at Shortlands. Over 200 medium bombers and short range fighters will be staged in this turn and they will be tasked with continuing the 100% neutralization of Rabaul as SOPAC pushes forward with the 2nd phase of their fall offensive.

The 100 plus heavy bombers of Fifth Air Force work over a defenseless Rabaul this turn and now both Rabaul and Kavieng airfields are 100% damaged. The heavy bombers will next be tasked with closing the final Japanese airfield in the region.....the level 4 airfield at Manus.

BB Musashi is spotted in port at Kavieng. Its probably BB Yamato....but if it is actually BB Musashi I guarantee that BB Yamato is there also and Dave is probably planning a major air/surface engagement next turn. Its only November 1942 and I only have 6 CVs present so I dont feel the need to take any unnecessary risks next turn. So Im going to let discretion take the better side of valor and all amphib TFs, carriers and surface TFs will be withdrawn to the southern Solomons where they can be covered by the hundreds of land based aircraft distributed throughout the Solomon island chain.



CBI

All quiet in Burma and India. Tenth Air Force commits all the heavy bombers to help transport supplies to Burma so that our offensive there can resume.



PHILIPPINES


All quiet at manila as Japan licks its wounds from the drubbing it took the previous turn. The Allies still hold all of southern Luzon with 2300 supplies remsining at Manila and another 11.000 supplies stored at Batangas.

And the race is on! Seven+ divisions bashing themselves against Manila to no avail as you advance in Burma and SoPac...exciting stuff. Those poor Japs in Manila aren't even going to get any rest to enjoy their victory when (if?) they finally take the place.

The Allies armies in Burma continue to rest as the supply levels slowly build. We now have nearly 7000 supplies between Mandalay and Shwebo.

Dave withdraws his 37 LCU 15th Army from Taung Gyi towards southern Burma.



PHILIPPINES


Dave paradrops the 1st Raiding Regiment to take Atimonan....effectively cutting southern Luzon in half. Im sending the 2 US armored battalions from Manila to Atimonan to deal with the Japanese paratroops.



AUSTRALIA

Two Aussie armored regiments reach Broome and a deliberate attack is ordered for next turn.






SWPAC


The 1st Marine Division captures a deserted Lae as the Japanese withdraw up the Markham River valley to Nadzap. The 1st Marine Division will now advance up the Markham River all the way to Madang.



SOPAC FALL OFFENSIVE


Allied medium bombers staged into Shortlands pound Rabaul. The heavy bombers of Fifth Air Force hammer Manus following sweeps by P-38Fs and P-38Gs. The Allies lose 20 AC in A2A combat vs 19 Japanese AC. Individual plane losses include 7 A6M2s, 6 Tojos, 8 P-38Gs, 6 P-38Fs and 4 Beaufighter Ics. My 2 P-38 squadrons and 2 Beaufighter squadrons have been pretty much decimated... but the main Japanese AFs in the region have been suppressed. Manus is now 47% damaged while Rabaul is 79% damaged. The amphib transports complete unloading at Shortlands...we now have 44,000 supplies on the ground there.....and head back to Luganville to embark troops for the 2nd phase of the SOPAC offensive.

Medium bombers based at Shortlands, B-25cs based at Woodlark and the 4Es of 5th Air Force pummel Rabaul, Kavieng and Manus respectively. Japanese CAP is virtually knil over Rabaul and Kavieng while a handful of Tojos at Manus rise up to face the heavy bombers. Rabaul AF is now 100% damaged, Kavieng AF is now 76% damaged and Manus AF is now 57% damaged.

This was my 1st real low level naval attack of the war using the medium attack bombers. Flak and OP losses are disproportionately heavy with all the AA at Rabaul so I think that I will begin to train up the attack bombers for strafing at sea.



The Allied carriers and surface TFs continue to withdraw to the southern Coral Sea....Dave sends a wolfpack of IJN subs after them and intel reports that we sank SS RO-65 and SS I-6 also this turn. Next turn Im putting a couple hundred DB and TB on ASW and adding 4 ASW TFs to the melee. I want to eliminate the sub menace before we launch the 2nd phase of the SOPAC offensive.

Amphib transports at Luganville begin loading assault troops for the next round of invasions. Cv Saratoga reaches Luganville this turn and refuels....we now have all 6 USN CVs undamaged and available for duty for the 1st tirm in the war.



PHILIPPINES


Ground bombardment only at Manila. I was successful in drawing all my supply from Batangas to Manila last turn but it shows that only 7500 supplies remain at Manila....either I used a lot or I somehow lost some supplies in the transfer. The 2 US Army armor battalions will reach the Japanese paratroops at Atimonan next turn.



NORPAC


Dave swept my fighters at Unmak and invaded at Yunaska Is. this last turn.



AUSTRALIA


Aussie armor retakes Broome this turn. Port Hedland remains the only Australian town in captivity now.



CBI


All quiet in China for awhile. Dont know where the 2 main IJA foramtions went but when they re-appear Im sure it wont be pretty.

SS Grunion sank xAK Oridono Maru off Taihoku this turn...it was carrying fuel so Dave is also using his xAKs to move fuel around.

All quiet in Burma. Even with nearly 6000 AV there its nearly a stalemate for the Allies due to a supply shortage. Ive stopped my air campaign closing the Japanese airfields and all 2Es and 4Es in theatre are now flying supplies into Burma.
