Yes you can always use the old ramming chestnut, the engine supports tank-tank ramming if charging. Provided you get close enough that is.

If I can get close enough one option is to ram. That's something to consider.

I was just playing the Ponyri scenario as the Germans versus AI.

I discovered the best way to destroy Elephants. Simply drive them over mines! [:(] I lost 3 out of 4 to frigging mines. The fourth dueled momentarily with some SU-76 assault guns, destroying several but taking a catastrophic engine hit and losing 100% mobility. All they could do was sit there. The SU-76s were scared though (justifiably) and none advanced.

All four of my elephants....arrgghhh!

Did any of our infantry in this scenario bring a bunch of mines with them. While they are busy shooting at our T-34s the infantry can sneak up and bury them in front of the elephants....

Geez, I was sick. Mines. [gasp of horror]

A killed driver is as mobility kill too.
The Elefant at Aberdeen was a 100% mobility KO. Captured after the crew bailed from a hit at the drive shaft to the front drive wheel which seized it up. This by a 75mm Sherman.

yeah, mines can be a real bummer, even these virtual mines can ruin your day. I can only imagine what it must have been like to drive tanks in places where they existed for real.

The front wheels are not drivewheels.  The power is at the back.  I saw that show where they figured out that it was a US 75mm round that did that.  Why the Germans used a toothed wheel on the front is a mystery to me.  In the case where that wheel locked up, it then locks up the track.

The technical challenge of crossing the minefields was not overcome during Kursk and the Germans quickly had the tank repair troops overwhelmed.  Those tele-operated demolition vehicles were too expensive and did not work on the new soviet mine-laying.  The Soviets did not use dense minefields but used multiple 'lines' of mines so that even if a demolition took place, it only took out a line of mines.

The Germans should have had mine roller type equipment.  In most cases, the engineers used hand equipment to breach the minefields.

Here we have the order of battle. You can see that so far we've lost 4 tanks.

Good Hunting.

1st Tank Company gets their orders. Keep the Ferdinand closest to the crossroads under fire while the rest of the company moves forward in a rush.

Good Hunting.

3rd Tank Company seems to have become our anvil. Time for the anvil to move out and take the Germans in the flank.

1st Infantry Platoon is out here in the middle of a tank fight but they are uniquely equipped to kill the big German assault guns. They too get orders to engage!

Good Hunting.

Any Ferdies immobilized should be targeted by the infantry first.

I'm thinking that the driver of that tank lagging badly from the 2TC may be over-enhancing the alleged damage to his tank and hopes to survive the encounter. Perhaps he managed to slip the transmission while nursing that baby forward and stripped some gears too. Hmm, where's a commissar when you need one?

Okay, this is pretty much following what we'd hoped would happen. Actually, I think it is even better, as we are rushing the elephants from three sides. I had hoped we could maybe catch them on two sides, but this should give us an extra side to target.

It should get very exciting quickly now.

I agree Heinrich, the ability to get at'em from three sides should give us lots of chances for scoring some kills. Wonder how the AI is gonna respond once the losses start to add up, let's hope our gunners haven't dipped into the sauce the night before.

Perhaps the lagger can be sent as flank protection instead of trying to catch up to the middle of the platoon.
