the intresting note about this was that he did not have any Zero's there --->> this means those Zero's I encountered last turn were from one of his CV's!!! Having said that there are more and more naval activitity spotted near Baker Island... Is he thinking about counter strikes?? Also, 8 Japanese subs have now infiltrated to the harbour of Canton Island!!! [:-]

..this the latest news... You can expect more heavy fighting in next turn too.

All starting to look like he's planning on defending baker with the Cv's then :( .. can you cope with them ?

maybe put some the 4E on naval search high % .. they should survive and cap they encounter . may give you some more info on the area. Damn shame the allies dont have plane equipped subs[:D]

China .. OUCH is all i can say .. although you did extract a heavy price

Good luck as ever

I don't actually know what his plans are... those Zero's definately did not fly from Baker Island and that is for sure [&:] .... I think he might be willing to go head to head with allied navy!!!

...and keep that in mind since I have now dispatched US Navy and Royal Navy to their designated targets... there they will rendevouz and join up to go fight the imperialist Japanese navy... As for your question whether I have what it takes to go head to head with KB??? ...we will soon find out!!!

The wait is soon over... wheels are in motion so to speak [:)]

There has been some good and some bad news...

Game date is 6th of August 1943

China

He has now total control of air over Yunan again... There is no chance at the moment to contest this so he will have 100% free training grounds again.

Also, the counter offensive at Kweiyang was total disaster... this operation resulted to loss of 15,000 men and Japanese infantry lossess were merely +2000... so this means I need to shuffle a lot more supplies here since I do expect him to try an assault here.

Cap over munda was awful ! .. maybe you caught some groups on transit .. well done . thats a lot of dead jap planes. also some rather good models too. any dead betty is worth its weight in gold. lets hope you got some on the pilots too.

ARGH .. China is back to being a horrible mess once again. Nice try in stopping the training. maybe have another go in a month or so when the spits get repaired .. have you managed to evac them ?

Also good luck on the baker operation ..

as ever .. good luck and may the force be with you :) ( im going to buy SW3 next week .. is it any good ? )

Yep... I did manage to Disband those Spitfire squadrons involved... Those planes will reappear within 80 days or so... than I will make another try stop his training bombardments in China... again just have to be patient [:)]

I have no idea what happened at Munda... and I cannot confirm that those pilots died but at least many of his planes were destroyed... I will keep the pressure on to see how many planes he has left there... oh, and there will be a new target next time around.

Hmpf.. China isn't not a mess... I doubt he can dislodge those 250 000 Chinese in Kweiyang... They have level 9 fortifications and supply is +20 000 at the moment.

I have actually seen SW3 in the movies... It was a lot better than 2 previous episodes so I would say it is worthwile investment [:)]

It's not recommended to use CLAAs for bombardment... But those Brit and Dutch ones are quite crappy in most cases..[:D]

Send some subs (maybe many) to recon around Baker I. They can even get lucky and bag some CV if around. Dud rate for US torpedoes is now 60 % so not useless..and in next month it'll drop to 10 %.

...quite a lot of action near this atoll I would say.

The operation Sunset is about to commence (within 2-6 days). Naval assets are together... this will include both RN & US Battle fleets.

There are 5 separate Aircombat TF... and there is also huge naval bombardment TF's. Actually most of my naval assets will take part in this operation... I have also put together one huge transport TF for the upcoming invasion... Once this TF is loaded up than I will issue the orders to go ahead with this joint operation... as promised Bloody days ahead... that's for sure [:)]

The biggest news is that operation Sunset has now officially started... Massive naval bombardment TF are heading towards Baker Island as we speak along with bulk of US & RN CV's!!!

Intresting days ahead since he now knows I have sent my CV Fleet to Canton Island... He spotted them via recon planes and also Wildcats/Hellcats flew CAP over allied fleet... so there is no suprise advantage and I think we will see huge naval battles raging in forthcoming weeks!!! ...Keep your fingers crossed that the allies will end up victorious [:)]

...Invasion TF will have around 60 000 allied infantry men heading towards the tiny atoll. Also I have put my LBA's in airfield assault so he can't move any LBA's there.

Let's end this news flash on positive note... there were couple of Japanese transport ships around Baker Island that were hit...

Also I have put my LBA's in airfield assault so he can't move any LBA's there.

Need to use LR CAP for that .. yes a battered runway will cause op losses but he'll still be able to fly in , and it wont affect the big flying boats either.

BAH .. who needs suprise if you have a big enough hammer !

Good luck and fingers crossed for you..

grannies and eggs i know but

1) dont sail the CV's into the baker hex
2) escorts don't bombard
3) keep CAP high .. you can afford heavier bomber losses than he can.
4) taking AV support ? or planning on flying some in quick after the shock attacks ?
5) have some rested fighters in canton to rush in ASAP.

6) .. just a thought .. BUT .. do AV's look like CV's ? maybe use a small AV group to try and distract any air power away ?

anyway .. as ever good luck !

..argh... anyway... he seems to have placed more than few mines to the shores. I actually have around 20 MSW participating and still I have managed to hit quite a few mines here...

...I have actually quite distruption levels and fatigue levels... needless to say. Hopefully the Japanese have too??? (they have been bombed for ages now via LBA's) ...in order to maximise my ground offensives those surface TF will hit the Island again next turn.. also some B17's and Liberator bombers will start ground bombing campaign againts Baker Island.

There are more troops loading at Canton Island and Funafuti... Hopefully I do need them but you never know what happens... [&:]

RE: Operation Sunset begins... Allied troops confident...

Post by Rob Brennan UK »

Dont forget the bombardment tf's mostly hit support type units especially base forces , AA and CD . the inf are mostly unaffected by them. yeah get the heavies on ground attack . i suspect his supply is very low keep an eye out in the ground combat screen to see if any jap unit suddenly has a massive reduction in assault points.

Most landing casulaties are disbalments i believe , but the shock attack rule doesnt allow u to rest untill you stop unloading. also be careful if your dropping off smaller units as i think the triggers everyone to shock attack.

The CD guns firing at invasion tf's are all the guns with the troops too not just dedicated CD units ( which i suspect are battered ). hence lots of shells coming in but few ships hit. I 'think' even mortars and AT guns add to the defensive guns firing total too, so it does look like a LOT of incoming fire which only a long ground attack campaign can affect before landing.

Frankly im also suprised by the number of japs here. will be a nice haul when u finally get them.

As for the LR CAP ?? no idea .. have they gained fatigue ? also are they in 'normal' range of baker, fighters dont fly LRCAP farther than that ( no extended range ). Can be confusing as escorts cover bomber raids but LR cap can be out of range.

IF this is the case maybe LR CAP the CV's while they LR CAP the troops ships, i.e keep the CVE's maybe 3 hexes SE of Baker and closer to canton. just a thought.

hope it works out for you !

sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)

US & Japanese Carriers clash at Baker Island... 1000 planes destroyed in massive air to air battles

Post by aztez »

Thanks for the comments again Rob [:)] ...I don't know why LRCAP did not function properly. Canton Island is 8 hexes away from Baker so maybe that is too far away... [:(]

I actually dispatched that transport TF back to Canton Island... and as you suggested the shock attacks stopped... so thanks for that precious information! [;)]

Here is the situation report... massive CV vs CV duels raged around Baker Island... around 1000 planes were shot down in total! [X(][:D]

Game date is 18th of August 1943

I actually dispatched that transport TF back to Canton Island... and as you suggested the shock attacks stopped... so thanks for that precious information!

you are most welcome [:D]

those PT boats did rather well! .. was that in baker is hex ?

what an even naval air battle ! nothing hit on either side , but both airforces decimated. I suspect he'll pull back as you can get replacements easily, he can't ! Maybe get the worst hit carriers back to canton and leave the OK ones on station, that way you can rotate them to cover more landings if necesary.

got any carrier capable/trained units on canton you can fly out to supplement the flatops ?

Nice one , this is really hotting up ! congratulations
