That beats Speedy's misfortunate.....his was only a CVL torp'd by a dutch u-boot.

I'm starting to feel sorry for your friend Miller.....he seems pre-destined to find out the hard way about the how the mod alters the combat of the game. [:D]

congrats...where did your strike on the Soryu orginate??..Seojarba (sp?) or Koepang...and is that his TF there SE of Bali?

I'm surprised he split the KB, considering how the game is going for Ken. It's his biggest advantage at this point in the game, considering how the ground war is going for him

In reply to all 3 of you , he went into some datail about what went wrong that turn.

Apparentl there are 3 CV goups and theye were sent to follow the slowest lead one ( as usual) althoug they got split up . one remained in port , one way 1/2 way to the other and the Soryu group had shot ahead ! .. the attacks were from soerbaja ( now got another screenie program i can do in game shots ). Where one unit of beauforts is stubbonly holding onto using bombs :( .. data base glich i suspect. when i have time i'll downgrade then upgrade again. still teh bombs hurt shipping as we shall see.

Nik .. yes poor old miller is learning to his great frustration how the mod actually works in game. I have to say was avoiding using CV's for the exact same reason. he seems to be resolved to carry on however so that says buckets about his character.

Now i dont usually post from an opponents e-mail but i will add the last paragraph of his ( i'll as permission as well ) .. there was a LOT of writing before this last bit.

"I want to continue of course (I just need to vent)but I sure as heck would like to know how I am going to do this. I have no earthly idea. The problems with TF's not going where i need them to go are just making it worse. I am sure part of it is me not planning well enough, maybe I should have left the PI alone and went right after Java but i thought 100000 troops in Malaya would be enough to take singapore by now. Japan took it alot sooner with a whole lot less troops. Beats me how i am going to mass 200000 troops I need to take it." -Miller 41

Kragen is a sore point too . However i would say that stuffign all available (3) dutch regiments when he landed was a spur of the moment defensive idea ( and a damn good one as it turns oout). Rest of Java is empty ! He does of course not know this whic probably adds to his overall doomed feeling.

When kragen goes .. java is toast .. hece i have a wee suicide mission planned for 2 CLAA and 2DD from Batavia. The a/f needs a rest today .. so these brave few will sail to kragen point and try and hit the transports ( the escorts seems to have gone) and new shipping is coming along too. ( jap brigade hit hard at sea today) Full speed should see them arriving at night (just) and withdraw to soerbaja if possible ..

the screenie is what i am currently facing in kragen ..

anyway onto the next day !

Yes, Miller sounds like an A+ PBEM opponent. I take it he doesn't want you to throw Singapore away? I did this for Speedy after the realization on what was going on with SRA flak. This has allowed him to get back on track in terms of his "schedule" (PI's remain under siege however at Manila....supply is critical now)

I still sank his CVL though (hoo!)

I have offered several times now .. all he has to do is ask , by the way .. got another 5'5 K AK 120 miles from singapore and another loading from palambang. [;)] Lets see if i can sneak in another 11k [;)]

i am also moving up more beauforts and a big b26B unit to java .. then send the dutch back for a much needed rest. tempted to send in some P40's too but im short on airframes and dont want to squander them. and P39's vs Zeros is pointless.

Well it was a very interesting turn .. the fighter sweep in china went OK and the CLAA and 2 DD group did a job on some jap DD's .. then suffered badly from betty torps .. well i wasnt aware that 5" guns could hurt the CLAA's and one got clobbered by a japanese DD that just sent shell in for ages.

I did cross the T with my naval force although it didnt go much good as far as i could tell

A less focused on mod change. guns <6 inch were tweaked in the game to allow them to penetrate lightly protected warships at close range (5000 yards or closer) This was done because play and tests showed that without torpedoes, DD's and lighter vessels were all but helpless against even Tin-Clad type cruisers (such as the old British CL's and the 1st generation Allied CA's) Its in the FAQ [;)]

without much success .. day 2 wasnt much better . I think Kens main gripe/point is that it it impossible to shut down alied bases or even do significant damage to them anymore. With CV's leaking more and bases un closeable it really is tough on the japs.

Understandable, particularily for the SRA. However that said.....The Japanese were hindered in the war by the light loadouts and light durability of their then frontline "heavy" bombers. Players could get around that by using the standard "6000 foot" attack en-mass and shut down airfields and/or destroy hordes of planes on the ground. This can still be done but now a price can be extracted. While it does hinder the Japanese....the Japanese player will later be singing the praises when it comes the Allies turn to attempt airfield shut downs via 6000 feet attacks.

I still think you guys should start a new 5.0 game. I would think Ken would like the chance to give it a 2nd go based on his experiences + the new changes will make his life much less hellish. But i can understand the desire to keep going too....restarts can be frustrating.

We just agreed to do that !

So this AAR is now ending .. but a new one will spring phoenix like from the ashes !

I am actually rather pleased about the DD CL engagement , i hate immune ship ..

SO many thanks for everyone who has taken the time to read and post here , your thoughts and suggestions were most welcome .. and we will hopefully have as much fun with a new game .. I like playing Ken , we seem to think alike (poor ken [;)])

It's sad to hear that this AAR will end. It has been a pleasure to follow and you did seriously kick some Japanese butts [:D]

HeHE .. i was pleased overall with the allied performance , i seriously doubt it will be that easy 2nd time around ( especially china which was a real learning time for us both)And i dont think thePI will be as annoying as it was earlier either.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game but it was looking like a massive allied victory, and it could have been a LOT worse for japan if i'd decided to reinforce java with more troops .. had plenty spare from india i might have used. Jap supply i would gess was awful and its may withut the BIG oil fields in sumatra and java.. nasty .. i am hopeing i'll get kens password and have a look at the state of japanese units and ships.

KD .. will most likely start from day 1 again .. and all that horrible month being allied [;)].
BUT there is so much an alied player can do between jan and may that just hasn't been done if you start scen 15. and i think niks mod is scenario 40 ?? well looks like i d/loaded one that was listed as 40 ?? ill have to take a look

anyway i have given permission for Ken to read this should he so wish so i'll ne be discussing any thoughts on how i will do the next game differantly ( which i most definately will) have some ideas too) when i get the next thread opened i would like to hear some startecic options and advice from all you guys .
