It is all about who wants an atoll more badly.

IJN is winning this battle; losses were heavy, but quite a few American MSWs and APs won't ever see Manila.

It appears that the next major battle won't be fought until the Philippines...

Only 3 USN ships survive in the Eniwetok hex, all APs, 2 of them heavily damaged.

A sudden change of pace as USN leaves Eniwetok. The only sounds disturbing peace and quiet of Marshalls are thuds of 12-16" shells from IJN bombardment fleets.

How was the dreadnought BB/BC balance impacted by the fighting in the Marshalls ?

Not good.

I keep setting my TFs to no retirement which yields me battlefields but earns higher casualties...

IJN: 3BB 2BC
USN: 3BB 4OBB

The good news is that I decimated smaller USN ships - they are up to 174 sunk vessels. Most of MSWs, lots of DDs, handful of APs...

Most of MSWs

That will hurt the most ... I added a bunch to the scenario ( another 20 or so ? ) ... but they can't make any more ( should be able to but can't ) ... without dedicated MS ... and once the hordes of CML start comming in ... invasions will be rapid trips to the bottom for USN vessels.

But you probably now need to add NCLs and NDDs to the 'non-expendable" ship group ( along with OCA OBB and NBB and BC ) only OCL and ODD and subs would then remain on the expendable list ... you need a fleet in being to force him to advance slowly ...

11 mos and 3 weeks to go ... if Manilla and Bataan not captured by then .. then IJN scenario victory. Though I would temper that with dreadnought BB/BC losses as well.

True, but losses of MLs and persistent submarine presence nullify possibility of new major minefields... I intend to pull all IJN back to Naga after this as Eniwetok campaign was mostly to hurt American morale, slowing down their advance.

losses of MLs

But aren't "dozens" of new CML arriving over the next 2-3 months ? Compared to the 8 or so you start with ... you'll be rolling in "ML" shortly ...

True, but I intend to use those as long-range interceptors. I was lucky @ Eniwetok as most of IJN forces were nearby. But I want to have an advance warning next time, and what better warning than a blanket of those cheap ships with 20,000 endurance?

Then the CML are still free to lay 20k thick minefields in the key objective hexes !

Subs won't yield me 17 DD carcasses in a single night.
Raiders with their 20,000 yard range guns will.

With these bombardments of Eniwetok ... are you trying to run him out of supply in preparation for your ground attack, or are you just training up your boats ?

Neither.

I'm using up supply storage of Eniwetok base. Once it hits 0 and once Mutsu and Co. get rid of their flotation damage, I am intending to abandon Eniwetok altogether.

One more USN DD sinks just 180 miles off Johnston. I'm planning to tally up losses after next turn as it appears that USN ships made it to a port safely (or not).

USN aircraft reported operating from Mili. IJN battleships rerouted south to erase that unit from existence.

If you bombard you can see how much AV he has and decide if you can kick him off (with that 1st IIB that was somewhere around there) or maybe you feel sorry for him and don't wanna !

I'm not too inclined to kick him out of Eniwetok. He's got 12,000 infantry there - not some support troops, but frontline squads of 2nd and 3rd divisions, the ones that were able to disembark before APs went to the bottom. Let them starve ;)

Plus, it's rather dangerous to send transports across sub-infested Marshalls.
