USAAF sources also noticed that flak losses among recon assets has led to a better paying of attention to altitude settings for the precious assets. LoL.....guess the low alt mission through flak and fighter defenses is not such a good idea anymore. USAAF command ordered it's Burma F5 group which has lost 10 of it's precious Lockheed's to the heavy flak in Burma to recon from safer high altitudes as a countermeasure. [:D]

How are you dealing with PT boats without strafing attacks ? It seems to me to be by far the best way to get rid of the little buggers [:D].

Are you restricting thier use to compensate for it ?

good luck both and have fun

yes, i play with a self imposed house rule of no more than one full strength (12 boats) TF of PT's per base maximum. Having to fight through a PT "Fleet" just seems gamey and unrealistic to me.

What are you talking about? It's a well-known fact that the USN routinely operated 80 or 90 PT's in one location at once...[:'(]

Well, whaddya think Midway was? They didn't want to actually invade that sand bar; Yamamoto had heard that Nimitz was using it as a big PT boat base...

I was suprised that Parshalls and Tully missed the most important aspect of the Midway battle. The Japanese carriers were caught with their pants down because the planes were being rearmed with extra bullet ammo to take care of those PT boats guarding against invasion. [:D]

Nik,
Did you lose any of those "Nasty" American CL's (Brooklyn & Helena class) or do you still have them hidden away?? [&o][&o]
One of my opponents is learning to hate those class of ships and for some reason doesn't look favorably on 14" & 15" shells raining on his poorly escorted invasion fleets (Force Z). [:D][:D]

the Gallant Nashville gave her life so that my reinforcement convoy might get through Japan's nasty cruiser/DD assets with minimal damage. CL Hobart took a fish and was badly damaged but lives on.

i do the same and dont use them offensively unless they are in proper range ( no paddling ) i guess you do similar, or do you just use them defensively ?

p.s midway PT boat hunt .. don't be silly .. they were after the oreo factory ( major factor in US army morale in the 40's) . and bullets have a tendancy to shatter crispy biscuits. [:D][:D]

Agreement

Post by Bombur »

-Japan and the evil colonialists reached an agreement on ship strafing (cannot be done). Another agreement is being negotiated on barge use for supplies. Meanwhile the war is relatively peaceful, but the enemy seems to be preparing another offensive in Burma

I'm not sure i understand what you mean by "used offensively" I tend to create PT TF's to defend a specific base so i guess my tactics are "defensive"

Betties are back

Post by Bombur »

-Japanese land based naval bombers attacked enemy units with mixed results. In Chandpur Betties damaged three warships. Intel estimates these naval assets were probably heading to Rangoon for naval bombardment. In Port Moresby, another attack resulted in one PC sunk and three AK damaged. Losses however, were high, particulalrly among escorting Zeroes. Yamamoto argues that the losses of pilots in missions over PM does not justify the damage inflicted, and, maybe, these missions should be cancelled in order to spare pilots for the defense of Rabaul. Tanaka was outraged by Yamamoto´s suggestion. Defense? What defense? Said him, the enemy will never be able to achieve Rabaul. Meanwhile, enemy heavy bombers attacked Shortland at not, achieving nothing but suffering heavy losses (3 B-17´s lost to flak)

KB is back too....

Post by Bombur »

-US air superiority over New Guinea was challenged as KB approached Northern New Guinea in order to hunt for survivors of the enemy convoy. While the convoy were able to flee at full speed, the presence of Japanese carriers resulted in a failed attack from PM, which resulted in 28 enemy planes being shot down at the cost of only two Zeroes. Meanwhile, B-17´s shifted to day attacks against Shortlands, resulting in 3 B-17´s shot down with the loss of one Rufe.
