I will never give up the game willingly. I am more frustrated is all. I sent 5 divisions and 2 Brigades to the PI to take Manila. The out of base defense near Naga basically destroyed 3 divisions (left them at half strength). The Manila stubbornness has devestated the other 2 Divisions and 2 Brigades. Along with the other 3 weakened divsions.

I will always try and continue a game. Time is rough right now,.

It was the out of base issue, aha. Usually happens if there is no retreat path.

There was a retreat path Ron .. back to manilla . its the fast forts in out of base combat that killed the japanese here . very hard on his engineers which made manilla impossible.

Hi Rob,

Interesting read.

Haven't had time to properly catch up on this for a couple of weeks.

Interesting to see how your game has progressed compared to Nik and mine's.

I personally have prosecuted a steady approach. I was expecting a tough battle due to the AA enhancements and it has turned out to be so. Ironically it looks as though the fall of Java and PI will be about historical in our game (May time).

I was personally hoping to have both of these wrapped up by end of april and then I was going to attack ************. Plans have had to be changed now.

Something else that is different to your game is the Zeros are nerfed in our game.

How have the Zeros performed in your game?

Seems like 2nd has also performed a fairly steady approach.

Regards,

Steven

Hi Steven

2ndACR is a careful player. methodical even. the zeros havnt been nerfed as far as i can tell. the fighter sweep over soerbaja for example was as expected horrible. both zero and oscar are a/c to be respected. but neither of us adhere to a principle of throwing away a/c so we both try to get advantage and suprise.

in your game vs Nik .. sure Nik hasnt deliberately nerfed the zero [:D]. you know how much he loves those a/c [;)]

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/22/42

ben a quiet few days ..

CA Astoria and 2 DD's bombarded that little island in the south pac he recently too and no traps was sprung. looks like a lone NFL unit .. I was going to vector in the hornet for some ground pounding practise, but decided otherwise .. shes off to pago now as canton is getting too much attantion from recon a/c.

I have also moved the 1st unit into luganville using fast transport 3DD+3APD .. CD fort large from tazmania has been prepping for here and is at 40% .. i dont want it to fall to a cheap para drop.
Speaking of para drops force Z is a bit vulnerable to them in tjiljap. but im not sure whether to move or not.

singapore really is its last legs !

Ground combat at Singapore

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 108185 troops, 691 guns, 105 vehicles

Defending force 46262 troops, 116 guns, 2 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 4 to 1 (fort level 3)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 0

Japanese ground losses:
1207 casualties reported
Guns lost 22
Vehicles lost 2

Allied ground losses:
1752 casualties reported
Guns lost 27
Vehicles lost 1

wont last long now .. but im pleased by the date .. have delayed japanese plane considerably here and in the PI.

A command decision was made to pull out the best staff officers from the asiatic fleet hq in manilla. however due to an admin error someone sent macarthur to the wrong dock .. so he got left behind [:D] shame [;)]

The 1st dedicated alled engineers today arrived in the SW pac theatre . 3 EAB's in aukland for distribution around .. 1 to cooktown 1 to noumea and 1 prepping for luganville.

I'm bein slower than usuaal in this theatre as i am spreading out the south pac defences over multiple islands. Suva/tongthingy/pago and canton. ive got my eye on a forward island too when i get a free small AV and an engineer ill move in and build up. 1st stepping stone.

i wish he'd take baker , i could do with the bomber practise [:D]but he most assuredly wont stick hi neck out too far i think .

NorthPac is almost realy to move out to the aleutions for a chain build up toward attu and kiska. 3 RCT available and some engineers not diverted south. just need some available shipping. despite the royal merchant marine sending over 30+aks to the pacific im still short on shipping. it's one of the great things about the mod. the allies really have to think about convoys and timings. I still have a shed load of ak's in karachi .. send more ? or keep them here for later use ( probably later use ).

The fuel situation in australia and throughout the pacific is now in the green. eastern oz 2 months ago was dry as a bone .. now its acceptable if not swimming in the stuff. the TK's 1/2 way back home for a refil.

Burma is quiet ,, mandalay now upto a fort 8 and growing nicely. im a bit short on AV support though . but the brits get a lot of big AV units soon (270). the variable delay delayed them [;)]. all dakotas back in india now .. time to move the 49th chinese back to mandalay. and march the last fragment.

well thats it from allied HQ ..

Hi Rob,

He has.

At least in our version of the mod (4.0) he realised through later testing that the Zero is genuinely nerfed. The recent attacks on his CV's near Kendari emphasised that. I lost 30+ crack Zero's for a few F4F's..........

He offered a re-start but I elected to carry on. An alternative history - the Zero is crap - is in the making[;)]

or even ' weaky wingstrut, burning fuel tank'

anyway .. back on topic .. singapore crumbled

Ground combat at Singapore

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 107085 troops, 676 guns, 102 vehicles

Defending force 43251 troops, 82 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 5 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Singapore base !!!

Japanese ground losses:
893 casualties reported
Guns lost 18
Vehicles lost 2

Allied ground losses:
63005 casualties reported EEK ! [:'(]
Guns lost 71

as its AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/23/42 im happy with the delay. 2nd ACR made an error early on letting the brits and indians escape back here after being trapped up north. although i think it was out of kindness at the time. i doubt he'll do it even again [:D]

For anyone reading and taking nothes , the malaysia strategy was a forward defence . as forward as possible early on. then a concentration at teh road junctions just south of kuala lumpur and then back to johore baru when the situation looked hopeless. the RR makes this possible with its fast move.

At that time singapore had been delivered oil so its HI combined with the resources from JB made supply for the base. single AK's did occasionally make it through and the dutch a/f contributed with many martins and even beauforts flying in supply from palambang and batavia. the same a/c are now supplying NE borneo which had dropped to 150 supply and wasnt fixing broken a/c . now upto 600 and the damaged wildebeest are almost all fixed up.

7 more days ! and i can upgrade british a/c

wildebeest to swordfish
P26 and some buffs to hurricanes.
lysanders to something useful !
and the mass introduction of the wellington and beaufort.

then 1 more month to spitfires and seafires (iirc).

picture today is koepang .. i have an AA unit mending in derby for eventual transfer( ex-tjiljap unit) .. Dakotas have been running supply to lautern and dili. dili 8k lautern 10k. Lets see if fortress timor can withstand the japanese jugernaught. it'll be interesting to see if he goes for this 1st instead of sumatra and java. unlikely given the date he needs the oil. and he could end up so bogged down here for months fingers crossed.

nice job there in Timor. Wonder why he didn't take Kendari yet? Not taking it definitely made reinforcing Timor much easier. At this rate i don't think you'll have to worry about any major offensive's outside the historical benchmark of the Japanese. With that in mind, where do you plan on your 1st offensives?

Hi KD .. Scotty speculated is his last e-mail where japan will go next. He thinks Java will be tough, actually it wont but it looks scary .. timor is the real beast. and 'think' he may come here next. Heavily reinfoced as you can see . also have 140 american fighters in the area as a boost.

As to allied plans for the future. Im very tempted to go historical in the south pacific if i can keep baker is. he's threatening noumea which is a worry as its not very well defended imo. piciie tomorrow/later. also allied plans are to hold mandalay indefinately. I have no intention of withdrawing to india. and in 6 months or so when india is safe the army there can come along to the party in burma. I'll contest air superiority in june, right now he's bombing the units to the west of mandalay, allowing me to build the forts unopposed.

Ive flown in a dakota group to withdraw the last BF in kendari when he attacks. 8 TIV await his arrival however.

Nik . yup its a big bag of points in singapore. i do tend to fight to the last in the DEI and malaysia ( cadres excepted).Thinking back i should have used a bunch of transports in sumatra to putt out a brigade or 2 at the last. BUT since he caught me flying supplies in its been constantly LR capped. an no chance of getting troops out by sea.

Well to carry on the game ..

You think noumea is formidable ? I centainly don't .. needs more infantry. Speaking of which i wondered where the americal unit was.. found it stationary in the deep south pacific! no idea how long it has been sitting there .. oops !

29th april now .. and with singapore falling i was expecting jap shipping to arrive and i wasnt disapointed

good old S boat .. I dislike using fleet boats in the shallow seas round here. Seadragon has been pressed into duty as a lot of the small boats have minor dents now and need some yard time.

He found my torp bomers in kendari the hard way too. came as a bit of a suprise to him

this boosts both the defensive and offensive capability of the british in india.

in java .. wildebeest to swordfish ( 28 in total)..

I'm keeping some buffalos and hudsons for the range which is lovely.

Allied ground losses:

dear dear .. poor old japs im the PI .. they really dont have any luck

he's moved into manilla for the squishing of the CD unit . probably tomorrow.

but it is still going to take him time to clear the PI . and his units are broken badly.
I really have nowt to fear from them for several months. the ex singapore units are another
matter however. seemed in ok shape .. i imagine i 1-2 weeks invasion sumatra from here.
hence the AP build up in singapore.

subs vectored into the likey approaches.

also a massive sub transport group is now operating out of darwin. Ill try and rescue some
isolated dutch from borneo who are at present providing free live fir exercises for the
japanese.

as its a months start losses :-

i seem to have ditched the last results so here is the totals

allies japan
Ca/CL 5 1
DD 12 4
Transports 62 37
TK 15 2
SS 5 5
aux 40 9

To qualify some of the results . 16 allied PT boats are included in the aux amount
and transports are both AP and AK losses.

Looking at raw figures his asw has improved .. lost 2-3 subs this month mostly 2 dutch ones
which is annoying. Japanese transport losses will not stop him at all, as i just started a jap
game i know how many japan has at the start. yikes !

The only really good thing is that losses overall have been light on both sides
look at the air losses in the points score below. i seem to have many more P40E's
than usual. although they are fragile given the crummy replacements. even hurricanes
are now scarce from the upgrading british a/c. 1 month till spits however so im not woried
about the pool too much. and the pilot pools are very healthy ( bar dutch and chinese)

It's not the looks but I'd find it hard to go back to such a limited map after using Andrews extensions. Bora Bora and Panama make a huge difference.

This anti shipping policy is working out well and unless he closes the a/f there isnt anything he can do about it. AVG is resting and will move down to cover the skies here. might attack HK port too recon shows ships in there (fk51's flying from wuuchow )

The japanese again failed to kill off the americans in the PI

Ground combat at Clark Field

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 88502 troops, 526 guns, 133 vehicles

Allied ground losses:

I have no idea why a 4-1 didnt cause a surrender .. odd ?? but im not complaining as the japanese troops are now even more battered.

I did another a/c check in the DEI and found 2 more brit sqds that hadnt upgraded ..

one converted to wellies and another wirraway unit to hurricanes.

Many many a/c are damaged .. 19 wellingtons too .. bugger !
The AF damage can be fixed up quick and his low alt attack resulted in
a lot of damaged japanese planes. I wish that had been betties [;)][;)]

I've ordered the flyable planes to batavia. BUT i cannot stop him doing this
at all. allied fighters are just so bad i need massive numbers to have any effect
and they are being used for the defence of timor first and foremost.

CAP has sprung up over soerbaja as a test. but i am not optomistic.

japan bombs china and burma unopposed. and also in burma its the turn of the Ind 16th
div for a rest and refit in dacca. 1/2 moved so far, 1 more day then stop so i dont
lose the unit. 104 BF has been succesfully returned to mandalay so the AV support is good enough
for my fighter transfer ( stil havnt decided when , but quite a few hurricane units need
to rest up and fix planes after dropping the lysanders like hot bricks)

Piccie today is from the south DEI.. is that KB ??? lurking just ne of kendari?
I suspect that it is,as a big chunk as his surface assets would be vulnerable.
However allied carriers are remaining in perth for now. ( the much awaited AO resupply
TF arrived today )
