Injured my dominant eye (right) with a stuck contact lens over the weekend. Now, waiting on an eye appt this afternoon, I am stuck with my back up bi-focals. They don't do well with computer screens. That is why I had the contacts, they were set for computer distance, not too close, not too far.

As such, WitP:AE is out for me until I can see a screen clearly again... [:@]

Also, posting here is difficult as it is hard to read and focus on it. I will pop in and out, but wanted to let all of you know why I am quiet for a while.

Quiet day in Colorado today.

Take care of your eyes, Nash. It's a true PIA to get replacements.

Ouch! Well, that'll teach you to dig out your contacts with a pickle fork, dude! [:-] Hope all's well now.

To the rest of the THREADsters reading this: Let's vote whether we want Nashvillen to get better. OK. Who wants Nashvillen to get better? Worse?

Well, the results of the voting are in. The eyes have it. [:'(]

San Antonio. I visit that area for my customers on business often.

Duh..don't make this so hard on yourself...and you're just a short drive away from watching your superhero Romo choke in person... [&o]

We're leaning (San Antonio) that way, Jeff.

By the way, you owe me a case of beer, dude. Pay up! [:'(]

That is correct...it was very close there.. I think with 10-15c. Natty Light, right? [:)]

Um. No. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. You still got my address? You may want to send it to Obvert-his check seems to have gotten lost in the mail. [:'(]

Gearing up for the invasion of Ceylon. The Penguin has about 3 division equivalents there and I'm preparing 7 of my own. Will be quite the fight.

So, you're counterinvading, eh? How long has he had it?

Recommendation: consider a landing in force at Jaffna. It's connected by rail to Colombo and Trincomalee. Rough terrain and usually lightly defended. If you can get your (supplied) Allied army ashore intact, you should be able to evict him.

Change can be a good thing. Got big plans?

We're at a real crossroads. I have a great job offer in hand from a company in NE Pennsylvania. It's a high pressure: high reward sort of position with a great company.

On the other end of the spectrum is a move to San Antonio to be with my wife's family. We're kind of isolated up here in MN from our families. We miss growing up with our parents, siblings and-for the first time-our new nieces and nephews. My wife would be the only one working if we ventured down that path. Doable, but risky financially.

So-a dream job or family? I'm sure no one else has ever made this decision before. I'm the first in the epic history of mankind, I'm sure. It's just a very, very difficult decision.

It's wonderful that we have a choice. But we've never been in that position before. We've moved around because that's where the jobs were. We don't have to do that anymore. And frankly, it's scary.

ETA: I'm all ears if one of you lot has some sage advice...

I quit teaching university after four years with nothing on the horizon. I'd been in NC for 6 years and just needed to move on. Moved to NYC, which was supposed to coincide with the GF at the time (we had lived together for two years) moving up with me. I went first, got a job and apt., all set up. Then she bailed!

Fun times!

Happily though, after working my A** off for a few months, got a great interview and eventually the job in London.

So the jump into the Blue can have good results, but the process can be tough. Sounds like a tough negotiation ahead. A list of pros and cons always helps me. Then flip a coin! What the coin says will tell you what you really think! (and what she really feels, which might be most critical) [;)]

Thanks, Obvert.

It's interesting to me how my decisions with two young children are very different from the decisions I would have made in the past, B.C. (Before Children). It would have been no contest whatsoever and I'd have opted for the PA job offer in a snap.

I'm becoming more conservative and more of a homer than before. It's interesting to watch the change over time.

I intend to land at Jaffna, where aerial recon has spotted a tank brigade. Initial force will launch from Bombay, and the sealift will go to load follow-up divisions from Madras once the first couple of divisions are ashore.

He's had it for about 4 months. One division ID'ed at Colombo and one at Trincomalee. Very light air defence; I've photographed every base and have detected a single squadron of A6Ms.

What's he got in Burma / Malaysia? It's a single day's hop over there for A6M or Oscars.

Unsure. The front is completely static, and the air war is non-existant. My main concern is not seeing torpedo bombers attacking my transports. I've got plenty of land-based fighters, but my TF AAA cover will be LOUSY.
