Allied Hiatus, followed by a nasty Japanese cold. But, back, entrenched, and fighting on.
RE: Soviets Activated....
Japanese troops surrounded by 2500+ Soviet tanks at Heiho, the defense there is coming to an end. But opportunity arises even from the ashes of destroyed base.

RE: Soviets Activated....
Here is the 12th Field Artillery, at Heiho. Despite having an insanely aggressive commander, they have suffered next to no losses. They have done a good job at disabling tanks, but there isn't enough artillery present to destroy a lot of attacking vehicles. Pity. Or, there is enough Soviet artillery present to really diminish the effective fire of the 12th.

RE: Soviets Activated....
Turn is finished, and we are trying a focused search tactic in an attempt to selectively strike Allied shipping. Always a risky strategy...
RE: Soviets Activated....
Lowpe, keep up the good work! Really enjoy reading your after action. I don’t post much, but your efforts deserve praise.

May, May, May! The blossoms bloom in Honshu, and like a blossom, Japan flexes some strength....oh, so selectively, but hope for a change in the tempo of the war has come....

Not as many flew as hoped for, but the Allies miss having any fighter protection, so three waves of bombers vector in...several torpedoes were defective, but a good strike.

RE: Soviets Activated....
The air strikes against the Allied shipping in Sumatra look like a really good start to taking control there. I hope you can keep up the pressure against them.
RE: Soviets Activated....
May is here, and the Nick starts with production of 100 planes per month, or 3 a day and on good days 4 and bad days 2.
The A6M3 will take 6 more days I think, and then arrive at around 210 planes per month.
The Tojo IIa has also turned blue, but will arrive June 1 at 90 per month. That will be an increase of 400 fighters or FB's per month. Boy, do I need them.
This month the Allies get that strange tank (Grant or Lee), but next month the vaunted Type 1 will roll off the assembly line for Japan and be the main battle tank till the Type 3 arrives 6/44 (wishful thinking there).

Two months till the 1st and 2nd Tank Divisions form up. Sigh.

RE: Soviets Activated....
Just not a lot of assault value in the production log here. 1st and 2nd Tank Division elements at least won't have to be bought out, but needed to counter the Soviets, and can move into China, if the opportunity arises, according to the rules Obvert posted when the Soviets got early activated.

The obvious question is - "Will each shell do at least 0ne Million Dollars worth of damage?" If not, someone needs to look at this again and rethink it.
RE: Soviets Activated....
Examining my possible Nick Sentai...and I have three to immediately choose from all currently flying Nates.
4th Sentai size 36, Saigon (upgrades later to NF)
5th Sentai size 30, Honshu (upgrades later to NF)
84th IF Chutai, size 12 but 36 pilots at Saigon.
So I will upgrade the the 4th and then the 84th, rail them to Cam Ranh Bay for quicker repairs and a slug of replacement planes. So in six-seven days the 4th Sentai should have 24 Nicks in them.
I have never had good luck in using the Nick as a sweeper, although Mr. Kane has. I am not adverse to trying. Given my shortage of fighters, I will probably use them initially in a defense against beasts to start until the pools and squadrons build up a bit. The A6M3 will be the sweeper.
To go beyond these three, I will need to allocate PP and convert light bombers into Nick squadrons at 10 PP per max plane size of the squadron.
The vast majority of those LB squadrons are restricted, thus will need PP allocated twice (to change HQ, and then change status (LB to FB).
However, there are some MB units that can convert to LB for free, and then to FB. Most promising is the 90th Sentai (size 31) and the 12th Sentai (size 27). Overall, tracker identifies 8 sentai or chutai that can convert now and are currently active and only one reinforcement unit prior to 1945. However there exists the chance of converting standard MB units to FB with an extra PP cost for the switch to LB.
So an average of 270 pp per squadron times 8 gives us a total PP cost of 2160 or about 500 pps more than a full division. So 216 more fighter bombers flying missions.
I will have to await my next turn to see the PP cost of converting standard MB squadrons over to LB and then to FB. I know the two mentioned above are free, but I am not certain on the remaining.
And finally, I am expecting a 2000 foot bombing campaign against Honshu to start at any moment. Unfortunately, I am really no ready for it. American beasts are in the Singers area for now...

Four Nicks were made today, an increase of more than 33% of Japan's front line fighter eligible production.
