I just saw a photo of the suspect. He looks like Klaus Maria Brandauer (the bad guy in Never Say Never Again). That's probably what set him over the edge...

Oh Eric... your lovely city is the center of the cycling world today. All eyes are on Grenoble... I hope that you are enjoying it (looks like great weather as well).

Nobody knew how bad it was last night. I went to bed at 3AM, when the death toll was 17 in total (7 at the bombing, 10 on the island). At the moment, it's 85 on the island and still 7 at the bombing.

Witnesses say the shooter was unhurried and methodical in his work.

I think the bombing was a diversion; he knew there would be very few people at work in government offices on a Friday afternoon in July, so he set off the bomb to draw the police and emergency services off, so he could strike his real target. Then he used his weapons until he ran out of ammunition.

Do they know yet what his motives were?

Bruce, preliminary reports are that he is an extreme nationalist, against the multicultural influences that are prevailing in today's world. We shall learn more as time passes, I am sure.

Weddings remind me of the futility of life. Forever vows, but forever isn't going to happen. Sorry to be a downer.

There used to be a Peanuts banner in my room during my time as a little log. It featured Linus sitting sucking his thumb and holding his cherished blanket. I recall the quote very clearly.

I love Mankind.....it's people i can't stand"

Humans are funny creatures......and sometimes we do things that are anything but funny. Saw your comment on some groups already accusing Muslims of the crime T......i read this morning that this clown was part of some right wing Christian group. Oh the irony. [:(]

I'm actually suprised the guy allowed himself to be apprehended. Doesn't the perpetrator usually save the last bullet for himself?

Not always.....Quite a few last.

Not forever. Little problem called death. I'm glad mine is going strong, but I don't delude myself about forever.

It's a good thing. We just need to seek forever in the right place. Marriage isn't it.
A fruitful marriage, like children or other gifts from God are a wonderful Earthly good. I don't think anyone expects anything of this Earth to last 'forever', Mike. I'll settle for 'the rest of my days' for a good marriage. It's not my personal & eternal salvation, but it's a great thing to have in this lifetime.

Agreed. I'm happy for them. I'm also reminded how long ago mine was. [:'(]

Yep. Left-wing Muslims can kill tens of thousands and all you get is back page news and justifications. A right-wing Christian kills one hundred and it's front page news all over the world. Go figure.

Despite the breathless news coverage, I think this guy did what he did not because he was right-wing, or Christian, but rather because he has a terminal case of rectal-cranial impaction. Stupid is as stupid does.

Just like the rest of the whackos, of whatever persuasion.

The killer put together a 1500-page "manifesto" of anti-communist and anti-islamic tripe, and posted it to various right-wing parties in Scandinavia before the act. He also put out a YouTube-video of himself, posing in what looks like a wet-suit with a severely-overloaded rifle. I counted two sights, a front grip, two lamps and a bayonet!

If he hadn't killed 92 people, it'd be laughable. Obviously severely deficient in the trouser department.

A neo-Nazi claiming Christian identity sounds fishy to me.
