Beta AE version 1108m4 - Tracker says "Can't Read Save File"

You might want to touch base with Michael.
Thanks - will do ...

Oh - I should have said - let me know if you want me to email you a save game for a sample. It's PBM so I can only give you my password, but I could give you my partner's name and you could ask him for his.

No need in this case as it fails on my test save too. It's probably the *.dll changing and we'll need Micheal's help to rectify the problem. Beta's can be a hassle to deal with and maybe we'll have to wait until it's an official update - if fixing this means that previous versions of AE can't use Tracker too.

If so you could just issue a new version of the DLL to use only if you have the new format. Consider too that many players stay on older official versions out of an abundance of caution.

PS: I am experiencing Tracker withdrawal after just one turn! [X(] [:D]

Actually - not saying this is going to work all the time; but can you take the new pwsdll.dll from the beta and put it in the tracker folder. Restart Tracker and see if it will load a turn for me. I got one error on initial load due to the combat report; but then ran again and it was ok ...

More testing needed

Sort of success - it read OK. But, Alerts reports an "Ace in a Day" whereas in-game reported plane losses do not support that report. AFAIK the change was to the pilot array, so maybe the gap of not having read in the previous turn (I should have tried that first, but didn't think of it in time) confused it. I'll let you know what I see going forward.

The new DLL should support older saves (ie pre-m4) as the only change was to add a new parameter to the save list. None of the tables have been changed, so a new Tracker should not be required.
The DLL in the tracker install directory does need to be copied over in order to read the new saves.

Based on Michael's post, perhaps people using the latest beta should replace the DLL for WitPTracker with the latest and see if that works. It may not line up perfectly with pilots, but it should run (or you can restart the database with the new DLL and see if that works better).

And yes, working with the beta does pose issues....
Delete the trackerdb.* files.
Copy the pwsdll.dll file from the game folder to the WitPTracker folder.
Try running the WitPTracker.bat again.

tracker and m4 beta

Post by WLockard »

I can't get tracker to work with the m4 beta. I get a side-by-side error using the m4 beta exe and DLL. But when I use the m3 beta with its DLL tracker works fine. On the tracker web site, you state that side-by-side errors are usually caused by C++ install errors. Is this the only cause?

I thought it was the case; So I guess you are putting the pwsdll.dll in the Tracker folder too ? And it is failing. That doesn't really make sense to me - that it is working with one and not the other.

What OS? C++ redistributable?

Hi,

Same problem here with the m5.

At first, I had a "cannot read file" error. After copying the dll into the tracker directory, the error disappeared, but the turn does not load.

The command console reports "exception in thread AWT-eventqueue-0 java.lang.unsatisfiedLinkError", related to the dll, saying configuration incorrect. Then another series of messages which most certainly result from the previous one. I don't know much about java messages, but the failure seems to happen in LoadLibrary(), called from file JNIpws.java
at line 20 (itself called from function ReadScenarioTurnNumber).

what date is the dll ? I've got one from the 16/5 and the M5 is from the 9/5 (Proper Calendar format) [;)] So I'm not sure what Michael has bundled together or why the M5 has a dll earlier ... The dll (16/5) works on my machine for M5 beta

[edit]Can you test this for me and get back to me about it.
I think you can get the dll here fb.asp?m=2814034

Do you have the C++ 2005 redistributable too ? And look in the message above about the date of the dll ... not sure if that is anything though

[Edit two]
Just tested both again and the dll versions are making no difference for me. 'Tis a mystery

Hi Damian,

I tested the other one, and got exactly the same error. What might explain the problem is that the turn was played on m5 with the 9/5 DLL, ie the 9/5 DLL would create the incompatibility in the save file. A way to test it might be to play a turn with the 9/5 DLL, and try to reopen it in tracker...

Another question. If I update the DLL, will old savefiles still work? In other words, if I reload a game from saves made before the update, will tracker and the new DLL manage, or shall I convert the savefiles in AE before?

Thanks in advance

I do not have the 2005 C++ installed and I guess I'll not install it, the 2008 should work since it does work for the m3 and earlier games. I guess I will have to wait until it all gets resolved later.

How do I fix the Duplicate Values error when Tracker reads the save file?

If I delete all the trackerdb files and then restart the tracker program I get a null pointer exception. ???

Looks odd. Please send me the save and the witptracker.properties files to witptracker @ gmail.com.

The duplicates you saw in your earlier post are likely due to a turn not fully being loaded and then you tried to load it again.

A nifty capability to have on the LCU screen would be to have one of the "Special" categories display paratroop capable units.

Just a thought.
