OK guys I am open to ideas.
 
My plan at present is to keep up the pressure on Apanami and after I take it eventually I will take a short pause its now the 19th November assume 2 weeks to take Apanami
 
Assuming that Apanami based P51's and P47's will escort/sweep enemy bases and destroy his industry then the next step is a two month refit of the fleet and assault LCU's
 
Best case I will have to rest for December and 2 weeks of January.
 
1st Aus Corps will spearhead the next operation as I have decided not to send them to India that means I have probably got 2 heavy corps not yet committed to the fighting plus the Iwo Jima based Corps.
 
My plan is when Apanami is mine to remove the Corps from Iwo and send them to the PI while interdiciting Iwo Jima.

I think the game ends 31st March so I dont have long.
 
I have this image of two punch drunk fighters circling each other.
 
PZB has no fleet and his AF is in tatters but he can rebuild. I have empty pilot and aircraft pools and my surface fleet is in bits - albeit still floating.
 
The cost in getting to this point has been high - my fleet CV's have done well but the real stars have been the CVE's - I have suffered huge losses in this class of ship to get where I am wrecks of CVE's are scattered throiughout the DEI - I will add up how many have been sunk someday but its a LOT.
 
I think I have about 15 operational CVE's left !!!
 
As for routine maintenance I have ships considered battleworthy with 25% sys damage

 
Its a crazy game....
 
If it didnt end in 4 months I would probably repair my ships rest and then hit him again in 4 months but I don't have that luxury - in a moment of honesty even if I manage to get the draw - PzB has won it would the US have taken the losses I have suffered to get this far - I doubt it.

Just one thing I'd say is that if you springboard from Apanami quickly you won't have much time for your army fighters to attrit his Home Island fighter defence force... If you attack quickly your weakest fighter force ( the USN ) will have to bear the brunt of the fighting again and your losses will be heavier than they otherwise must be.
 
You can only hit him once more, you've got over 4 months to do it in so perhaps you should just take a little time, allow your system damage to repair, your pilot and plane pools to recover and, most importantly, your USAAF fighters a chance to kill a few hundred Shindens and pilots so that your USN fighter pilots won't have to face them and kill them in 1 to 2 months time.

20 Operational now
7 damaged but operational
2 Crippled
 
I have lost more than 50% of all allied CVE's [:D][:D][:D][:D] This is the real cost of my deep strikes the need to keep convoys flying with Wildcats against 1st class fighters

With you control of the seas you should have the ability to choose from a number of sites.

Hmmm having just paid the piper to gain a foothold I would be crazy to go deep again
 
The issue is in stock railways allow very very fast redeployment without the consequential cost of vulnerability to attack so an attack outise of LBA would only occur as a result of a strategic misdeployment by PzB.
 
Something he is not going to do.
 
I need to just go for the jugular and attrition him down.
 
Actually the attack on the Nagasaki area looks possible if I have Apanami

Had the turn back managed to get a 1:1 but the cost was huge.
 
I am better waiting for supplies to get short and then hit him again.
 
B29's and BB's will go round the clock.

Can you keep him from running in reinforcements with suicide barge convoys? If not, time might not be on your side.

I cannot although a lot of barges are sunk and I notice the two ports nearest Apanami are full of ships.
 
I may try to hit them with Superforts on the off chance that he has left them vulnerable.

Sorry guys been mega busy with day job.
 
I wont go back an post the past week or so's combat reports suffice to say despite everyhting I do and over 80 DD's in and around Ananami I cannot stop PZB reinforcing its really getting ....irritating...
 
Lots of 1 ship TF's and an unending stream of 1st class fighters - it gets quite depressing.
 
Forts are now 6 but last attack was a zero : 1 I will keep on it and hope eventually he runs out of ships I saw a few 1 barge TF's as well now up to 60 units in the base and he continues to reinforce
 
Apart from that better news in India as Delhi falls next stop Lahore/Rawalpini and Ahamabad then its back to deal with Bombay.

Looks like over 50 transport TF;s in the Ananami hex and despite haviing c 80 DD's in over 10 surface combat TF's I cannot kill even a tithe of them so Ananami is reinforced.

He has now lost almost as many Reppus as I have Hellcats [X(][X(][X(] and more keep on coming its enough to drive you to drink !!!

I do find it really odd to use so many single ship TFs as this is just exploiting the game engine that can´t handle them. All those single ship TFs are sitting in port at Amami but are treated in the game as if they would be 100 miles away from each other (not for defensive Cap of course).

My small TF's have only been formed to try and take his ship to ship I dont want to do it but there are so many small 1 and 2 ship TF's that most are getting through.
 
I have a new plan to try and take care of it he won't like it but I have put a lot of FB's on naval attack and liberators on naval search.
 
Single ship TF's have their disadvantages 1 x 100 ship TF is relatively immune to search attacks - 100 x 1 ship TF's will take a lot of damage from planes on search

Only the USMC has pilots left so losses have became immatrerial they are all rookies now and its starting to show in my loss percentages. P51 pilots are sitting at 40xp.

I am going to re neutralise Okinawa tomorrow.

Andy, you know you'd get better results by splitting those BBs and CAs into 8 ship contingents ( matching BB gun types and CA gun types within the TFs). For bombardment purposes I'd suggest 6 to 8 BBs with 2 DDs as close escort and roughly the same with CAs. WiTP is strange in that you get better results with the sequential employment of small forces than the employment of equivalent force en masse.

OK I will try that I have been mixing and matching.
 
There appears to be some kind of limit on the number of surface combats that can occur based on the number of TF's PZB has had 30 or 40 1 ship TF's in Apanami and only a tithe get hit so I was trying something different by having 1 big TF to see if I could get more srface combats.

Any limits have to do with ammunition expended per contact. The most efficient manner in which to achieve sinkings ( in-game and with relation to ammunition expenditure ) is to ensure that you don't have massive overkill in terms of surface units.

E.g. a BB TF with 8 BBs might only engage 6 APs before all BBs are out of ammo. Split that TF into 4 x2 BB TFs and each of those 2 BB TFs will easily sink any merchant it comes across. Each TF might sink 4 merchants before running out of ammo but because you have 4 TFs you'll sink 16 APs instead of 6.
 
 
Essentially what is happening is that far too many of your heavy hitters are firing at AGs and APs, AKs wasting their ammo long after the AP or AK has taken damage sufficient to ensure its destruction. By limiting TF size you can ensure that 1 or 2 ships fire at and sink that AP/AK without another 14 or 15 ships just wasting ammo.
 
So, in short, so long as you have sufficient combat power to destroy the strongest force you could possibly come across ( not an issue now that most of PzB's surface fleet is destroyed ) the most efficient means of achieving the end point you desire is to create a lot of small TFs. If you REALLY want to be serious about it create TFs comprising 2 BB or 2 CA or 2 CL + 2 DDs or DEs such that each TF comprises only 4 ships. That'll sink a lot more of PzB's shipping.
