RE: FlashFyre Demonstration Long Campaign
I have to divide my Arrty orders points between about 6 commanders, and will show some turn 3 action of my approching the north VH's, the fighting already happening around the main central VH's and south sector. Going to lay smoke on and allong the drop zone with my priests end of turn 3

RE: FlashFyre Demonstration Long Campaign
I set my Arrty to randomly bombard two hexes into their deploy line starting the first turn and repeating with shifted tubes widening the TOT where I thought theyd be conjesting.

RE: FlashFyre Demonstration Long Campaign
2 things-----
1. you had way more tanks than the Buna camp ever had in real life
2. C and C is a joke!!! It seems like a good idea to keep players from having each unit be its own general but it also prevents units from retreting or reforming or getting their heads down!!!! The way the game system works staying in contact with an enemy is almost like charging them!!!!

RE: FlashFyre Demonstration Long Campaign
thanks for taking a look at my progress guys, and h_h_lightcap your right 1),, if the FlashFyre long campaign had to be historical then I would have had too many tanks,,, on a side note the japs in this campaigns battles so far have never to my recconing suffered "tank panic" and choosing to banzai charge !! any and All vehicles it manages to spot!! could be considered a detriment to my side in the scence that ALL the jap units I've experienced so far, even the small units{scout teams?}want to chase down any motorized unconcentrated units,SO my big juicy 15 tanks which I use as carriers for my engineers and small to medium crew served weapons are major attractants to all forms of the JAP forces.
2) yes I agree that C&C ain't all its cracked up to be,,,, but FlashFyre's intent was to make it hard for us, and I think C&C gives a good interpretation of how seldom a field unit of platoon rank would be able to interupt the senior ranked radio net threw jungle conditions on the radio equipment available at the time,,, so the loss of orders and inability of maintained constant radio communication for conformation of changing orders for evolving situations isn't there{ much like it was for real back then, they had no satillite comms or bay stations.}}

RE: FlashFyre Demonstration Long Campaign
Riun, your maps illustrate the ONE big complaint I have with long-campaign jungle battles -- too many roads. These are supposed to be freakin' dirt trails, unpaved and often muddy. In other words, damn-near impassable except in clear weather.
Trucks and AFVs should be gettin' bogged-down left and right. The one thing that's truly missing is the ability for seabees/engineers to lay down corduroyed (log) passageways, and have bulldozers to carve new trails in the bush. That's a personal nitpick.

RE: FlashFyre Demonstration Long Campaign
Addendum -- you are giving a great example of how I'm personally convinced that the Japanese are the toughest opponents on the defense in the game, especially in bad terrain. You can easily see how one can both respect them and despise them.

RE: FlashFyre Demonstration Long Campaign
Hey ROBOT glad to see a vetran screenshot AAR'r like you will take a look.{ and root for me hopefully} My tanks can carry 12 people,SO wouldn't I be stupid not to use them to help convey troops and equipment, at least up to the time that the tank is spotted and comes under fire??? I'm not tryin to be snyed or rude, and will explain the tactic further.
I've been taking notice to the fact,{ that I keep arguing with gunny} that in every battle against the japs so far,,, [and I'm referencing this and 2 marine camps I did before] I have not needed to use a static line of deploy for any action I've fought so far,,,this being because whether your doing a delay/defend or advance/meeting eng. the jap forces will determinedly but sporadically head directly at what ever units it first spots. this is followed by the AI trying as so many of us human players do,,, to bring all his heaviest hitting units{combined arms theory goes out the window}screaming up to the spotted units local to engage in a standup, face to face exchanging punches type scrap. {gunny says he has to be concerned with infiltrators and therefore streches his force from one boarder to the other} My arguement and tactic is to have some of my moderately armed forces riding into a "first contact area",{which the japs will mass to} then after being spoted and shot at;which has really low odds of hit; I identify the unit that shot at us and asscess its firepower and movement rate.
Drop the riding units and have them prepare in place, while my tank/transport drives a 200yrd "?" pattern in front of the engineers I just dropped. the dropped units will entrench to foxholes if u set to defend and lay mines in the centre of the question mark pattern, the tank returns a couple of turns later, hopefully with baited enemy in pursuite to the flank of the infantry or engineers you have waiting.
This is the time when u should be moving your heaviest units and utilizing your ARRTY.
AS this is going on in the front, your trucks and other less defencable units of support can concentrate on areas that look like they may be thin{ throu action or lack of good location on the field.

RE: FlashFyre Demonstration Long Campaign
I think their the hardest defenders aswell but its because they seem to be able to do banzai counter charges against any unit, and DON"t HAVE TANK PANIC?????,, for if they do I have not seen it in 3 seprate campaigns against them no matter what the settings where!!
Thats why I'm tryin this Flashfyre settings in the PTO,, I wanted the AI to have the longest chance to crush my @ss, but I'm regreting not getting the chance to have TIGERS punch long range holes threw my STUFF[;)]

RE: FlashFyre Demonstration Long Campaign
Riun, you and I are using different approaches in our campaigns, but the unifying theme is the quality of the Japanese forces -- they are tough SOBs, and, no, they don't fall victim to tank panic. I've had extreme cases of 1 surviving diehard breaking out a knife or sword and banzai-ing me. Suicidal, yes, but you gotta admire their courage. It seems crazy and fanatical to the Western mind, but that spirit existed in many of them.

RE: FlashFyre Demonstration Long Campaign
Great comments RUIN!!!
However, I will continue to quibble about C&C. It does make it harder for the Human player but it does so by making it ridiculous. I think upping the AI advantage and playing a hard(x2) battle is more realisitic. Sure we have the advantage of super coordination but that seems more realisitic than soldiers that dont keep their heads down and contact that equals death if you cant fall back 10 yards......

The way you explain the tactic sounds real good to me Riun. Just that when ever i get my tanks that far in front I always seem to lose several before i can get them back to the troops. Be glad when my long war gets up to the time of the Us entering the war. Want to see how my marines handle the japs. Will see at that time wether i know any thing at all I assume.

RE: FlashFyre Demonstration Long Campaign
This tactic doesn't work as good with the germans because they actually do more of a probe in force dispersment and hold more strict giude lines as to the order of their units approach.
