Re: Patch 07 unofficial data scen updates

Post by RevReese »

Hi all, just got this game and installed the official 1126a patch, then the unofficial 1126b beta patch and all of the updated scenarios in this thread.

However i seem to have 18 scenarios rather than the 15 here and only some of them say "updated" in the scenario selection screen and slot 16 is empty even though there are filled scenario slots below 16.
Are they all updated successfully? i had no problem following the instruction to change from .zip to .exe and the first time i ended up letting them all install to the root directory rather than the SCEN folder accidentally (i reinstalled and made sure to change the directory manually to the SCEN folder and all seemed well).

I read a post on here where someone says that on starting the game, you get a small pop up mentioning a database update, i did not get this so am not sure what i did wrong.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you for your time, i just want to get stuck in already! :D

Anyone?
I really want to try this game out with the updated scenarios but i am unsure they are installed properly even though i followed the instructions.

Is it even worth updating them, or should i learn the game vanilla?

Thank you for your reply!
That was i was planning on doing, but i looked for updates first!
I will verify the game and keep everything vanilla then.

Can you download it straight onto your Desktop? Maybe your Windows is acting funny with the Users folder?

Do NOT unzip these files, change the "zip" to "exe" and then try them.

Just a suggestion, save everything else first as a backup.

For those wondering about the renaming of files to .zip without actually zipping them, that is because forum software does not allow the transmission of .exe files since they may contain malware. With the .zip extension the file can be downloaded but if it was malware it would not spread itself on your computer unless you changed the extension - which you should only do with the expected file, not something you are unsure of.

That information is in the very first post.

I see no reason for Bing to have trouble handling downloads or access to the Matrix site. If you can read this forum then it can use the Forum software including the download of files.
As explained before, the Forum does not allow upload or download of .exe files because they could contain malware. So they are saved with the extension .zip to allow the download.

Once you have the file downloaded (usually it goes to your folder called Downloads), use File Explorer to go to that folder. You just right click on the file name and choose properties, then change the extension from .zip to .exe . This now allows the file to work as a self-extracting install. Double click on it and it will extract all the files and put them in folders under the Matrix Games main folder. It will probably provide you with the Shortcut icon on the desktop that points to the game file.

After you have it installed (original game plus patch you just downloaded) you will need to set the switches you need to make the old game run on much newer versions of Windows and newer hardware. See the thread on Slow Performance to understand this (lots of screenshots will help you) or find the thread on Seabee Alpha to get the utility that will help you set up your switches. Post in the Slow Performance thread if you have trouble.

BTW, the Forum software requires you to make 10 posts before it will allow you to post pictures like screenshots of your monitor view. Screenshots are very helpful to show the problems you are having so others here can help you. Just use the Prt Scr (Print Screen) button after the function keys on your keyboard - press it once to save it (invisibly) to your clipboard. Then, before you copy anything else, open an image editing program (I use Paint 3D that comes with Windows) and paste (right click on the drawing surface and choose paste) the clipboard image into it. Give it a file name and save it somewhere on your system that you can find again. Then when you go to make a post on the forum, type your text and use the Attachments tab at the bottom of the screen to Browse to where you stored the screenshot. Click on it and send the post.
