WWII - Mano-a'-Mano - HTH

But since we are switching sides, the key now is timing. I have to post a win so early he can't beat it as the Allies when he plays them.
Well your contest is a bit biased .
As Axis is much harder to play than Allies, the one who plays Allies first has a big advantage .
Indeed you have learned what are all the bad mistakes that the German must avoid so that you won't repeat them beginning with the big France timing blunder that started it all .
So when you'll play Axis, you'll start with a non negligible knowledge advance ...
If your Partner posts here, I hope that he'll explain WTH happened in Finland and with his Kriegsmarine .
For fun compare your situation at the end of 1942 with how bad it could have been for the Soviets (my post about the ultimate Barbarossa strategy - take the assessment at end 1942 - tm.asp?m=4247863) . Note especially the Finish power

Vonik - I tried the link but could not reach it. Will try again later.
And yes, I understand the bias distinction and you're are right, but:
(1) he had played multiple games as the Axis against the AI
(2) I had only played twice, once as Italians only then once with Russia only
(3) he specifically wanted the Axis for the first game
(4) in board wargames, which is all we played until now, he is very good and we both agree better than myself
(5) for a long time in this game he ran a parallel game which I did not - obviously this became worthless later on
(6) and yes, you are right again in that MY mistakes (MANY) cost less in the long run than his own but he could not recover from his
(7) lastly, he says he would have been better off NOT plating the AI too much beforehand - it gave him a false sense of security (his words - not mine).
But he wants to end it on the field of battle, and then try to beat my score.

You are right . For some reason the link doesn't work . You can see the thread I linked to in the War Room and then check the assessment at end 1942 .
And to your 6), yes, I have noticed one big mistake of yours . All others were minor .
It is not such a big mistake in itself but it may be a decisive one in the context of your contest .
If your Partner has seen it too, then it is probable that you may get a surprise and better be ready to pay for much beer

RE: WWII - Mano-a'-Mano - HTH
Ack! Please don't tell me now but remember it for later (or until it can have no effect). Because Mark cannot read this thread to be fair I mentioned your comment about a BIG mistake and the beer allocation. He was frankly more concerned about the beer
but did say that, as a first head to head run through, we both have made grave errors throughout.
I think (hope) that my errors were either from being overly cautious (first timer) or based upon the parameters Mark and I set forth at the beginning. Unfortunately for me I don't think that is what you are talking about
But I am being less cautious and trying to end this ASAP. I have not even thought about how to approach this as a German Player yet but, hopefully, will get there soon enough.

Don't worry I won't tell

I respect your contest, find your AAR interesting and wouldn't be one to spoil it .
But for me you did only one big error and your Partner also only one (the already mentionned timing blunder in France which is intimately linked to the demise of his navy) . Everything else was minor .
