To my knowledge, the CS need to have their organic air group on them when they convert. The conversion of the ships ALSO converts the air groups to their new composition.
As the game might be back on, I’ll chip in on this topic.
I don’t know for sure, but i read somewhere that only the air units on the 2x Chitose class auto upgrade to F/TB.
They do have to be on the ship and it worked for me in my current game.
As I’d read that it doesn’t work for Nisshin and Mizuho I left those FP units off, so I can’t confirm or deny for those ships.
It might have something to do with the difference between upgrade and conversion.
I would much rather the extra F/TB units if it is possible as I have FP units coming out my ears, while F/TB units are a lot more scarce.
Currently playing my first PBEM, no house rules Scenario 1 as IJ.

Yeah I left the float planes on for the conversion of the Mizuho and they did not convert to carrier planes.

Did it just kick them ashore, so you didn't lose the FP units?

The air groups SHOULD have converted. That is strange.
I sent both game folders to each of you. You have the BTSH and BTSL to choose from. As I said in my emails, when I get back from my eldest son's hunting trip, I will get the Dutch BC artwork to you.

yeah it just sent them to shore. Mizuho is a Chitose class CS in this game so idk why the units didn't convert. Maybe they didn't have squadrons to convert to?ORIGINAL: jdsrae

RE: RA Soulsilver (J)vs Deaniks (A)
an alternate Aug 27th. (we ended up rolling back a turn before the carrier fiasco)
Today I pulled my carriers back, I still killed a Bogue class CVE and the BB Pennsylvania for basically free (well at the cost of some fuel tbf). I'm gonna take my win and walk away for now. Idk if I'm gonna move my carriers back to Truk quite yet. Probably need to keep some serious assets up here to prevent an allied reinforcement of Adak. I'll move the carriers back to Ominato for now and regroup with the newly arrived Taikaku and the newly upgraded Akizuki class DDs.
Normal air strikes on Bombay were uncontested as per usual. I'm pretty sure all his planes are damaged and the airfield is too damaged for him to fly them north to Karachi, so they are stuck here...
Morning Air attack on Bombay , at 36,24
Weather in hex: Light cloud
Raid detected at 35 NM, estimated altitude 13,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 10 minutes
Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 24
A6M5 Zero x 33
Ki-21-IIa Sally x 79
Allied aircraft
no flights
Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21-IIa Sally: 1 damaged

Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Aug 30th
I spotted a cruiser TF that in our previous Auguest 27th bombarded. The TF took a standoff position off Russel Island and then pulled back. The TF however continued to sit off the coast of Luganville island. I seriously wondered if it was bait/ some CAP trap, but nonetheless Carrier Division 1 (akagi, kaga) sortied from Truk and launched an attack. It did not appear to be a predetermined trap, there was some Cap, but it looked more like bleed over from Luganville.

Well you got lucky in the previous August 27th result,
Dean should only ever engage in CV vs CV engagement with LBA support otherwise he will need extreme good luck.
Their is a AAR where two USN CV's were able to take on the whole KB and win, obviously that didn't happen.
The allied pilots did not have the exp to take on the elite Zeros thanks to loses and attrition from the other CV or LBA vs CV battles.
The weather was very favable with Heavy Rain being the second worse weather to successfully attack ships, which is why KB didn't get a scratch.
While the USN got heavy clouds which is much easier to attack with most of the strike force getting through CAP.
Pretty much it was a predictable outcome even if the USN/RN had a good dice roll, which it didn't get.
If Dean's moral hadn't collapsed, Japan could've had rare fun in the West Coast of America or Pearl Harbor but it's great that the game was saved.
I'll probably might go over to Dean's side and cheer him up with some videos and images or something about how America should most likely win the war or something.
Edit: Although I rather prefer not to bump threads that haven't been posted on for over 20 days...

RE: RA Soulsilver (J)vs Deaniks (A)
September 1st
Spotted some cves near kodiak heading west. They might just be AO or TKs but dean might be attempting to resupply/retreat his troops on Adak once my carriers are gone.
Bad weather has grounded most air operations in india and china recently so not much to report there. Dean retook Hyderabad with some tanks a few days ago before I could rail in reinforcements but has again left the base undefended. I'm gonna paradrop the base again this time with the 1st para division which should be able to hold out till I can rail in more troops.
In china ground troops are flooding into the central plains near chungking. I've taken kieko north of chungking and am moving on the two other central chinese bases which aren't chungking. Once those bases are secure I'll move on chungking and begin the siege in ernest. The air field of chungking has been constantly bombed for the last few months so dean hasn't been able to increase the forts for a while now.

Dean has been too busy with school and perhaps too disheartened to consistently post to his AAR unfortunately. I think hes kinda given up on his AAR, so I'm the main cartographer of this game right now, which is a shame. I've definitely glosses over some stuff in my AAR, and obviously you guys have missed out on the allied perspective.
Thank you for you analysis regarding how important weather was in the outcome of the battle. It hadn't even occurred to me that the battle might have been so decisive because of the weather.

I should also mention that when we assumed that the game was dead we both ended up sharing passwords and rerolling the results of the turn a couple times for fun. The best result Dean got was 3 bomb hits on my CVs total, with my carriers still coming and sinking most of his TF.
we have both changed our passwords, but I ended up looking around at what dean was doing at the time (when we both assumed the game was over) and pointed out to dean a bunch of shit that he wasn't doing or should fix. Hopefully that help him a bit in the long term. Also apparently for what ever reason the Pakistani Division that was supposed to spawn at Karachi after the emergency reinforcements were triggered did not spawn in, so 1 less division I need to worry about [:D][:D][:D]. The forts were last seen to be 4 and half way to 5.... Chungking wasn't much better stuck at 6.... So I'm a little optimistic that I might be able to take them both faster than expected. First priority is to slow down fort construction at Karchi which will be done by naval and air bombardment.

September 4th
a few days ago I laid a sub minefield at Noumea which was able to kill an xakl. Today some allied minesweepers cleared the minefield.

The main event today was the CVE's I spotted yesterday being confirmed to be heading to Kodiak as I-30 put two fishes into the Long Island. Unfortunately 1 of them was a dud! I think this makes it fairly clear that dean has not given up on Adak, he really should just write off the troops there and go elsewhere, but it seems that despite our recent carrier fiasco he still has tunnel vision on the Aleutians.

Also on a side note I am currently at a 4.184 VP ratio, so unless dean does something drastic, I'm gonna get auto victory. We already agreed to play on after auto victory if it occurs, but I suspect that it will affect dean's morale.
In terms of R&D news the D4Y1 will enter service next month, along with the J1n1-c and the D4Y1-c. I plan to convert the val factory to the Judy and a the C5m2 factory to the D4y1-c so the R&D factories can accelerate the successor airframes.

September 6th
Dean is 100% trying to either reinforce or resupply adak/evac adak right now. 2 TF were spotted heading west from Kodiak one containing a bunch of cruisers and 2 BBs and one containing CVs of some sort. The IJN carriers just got back to Ominato and were able to rearm and refuel. They will sortie back to the Aleutians with the Taikaku this time. Adak has been reinforced by an SNLF brigade, and 2 SNLF guards along with a squadron of Nicks and a squad of Tojos. If he's trying to evac Adak I think my carriers will get there in time. Unfortunately the Vals were unable to unload in time at Amchitka so the Air transport TF will withdraw to the west for now. I have to say I'm surprised that dean is being this ballsy, didn't think he would be stupid enough to try this while I have my carriers up here. A light cruiser TF up at Paramushiro will also sortie and attempt to get around and engage his carriers in a surface battle.
September 6th Bombardment of Karachi
The Ise and Fuso class BBs conducted a night bombardment of Karchi that was uncontested by both air and Naval units. The BBs weren't even spotted I assume due to the heavy storms in the area. In case they were spotted, Carrier Divison 4 was on station along with the CVEs to provide LRCAP. I have to say it went as well as I could have hoped with about 150 planes destroyed on the ground. This bombardment will save me a lot of plane and pilot losses in my upcoming air campaign. I'll start sweeping as soon as the air base at Hyderabad is up and running again.

Up in the Aleutians bad weather prevents the NAVs from launching so we have lost contact with the allied relief force. The CVs will continue towards the Aleutians for now. a Bunch of the CVL fighter airwings were able to upgrade to A6M5s while at Ominato so my carrier force is even deadlier especially with Taikaku in tow. Its possible dean called off the attack after I chewed him out for launching such a hopeless and risky operation.
