Hi all,

Some bloke in UK USB Bank was arrested on claim that he was "Rouge Trader" and that he lost US $ 2 BN!?!?!

How on Earth one could loose US $ 2 Billion?!?!

Leo "Apollo11"

Well, if he WAS trading in make-up products then it would be kinda surprising. If, on the other hand, he was a ROGUE trader, then these sorts of figures are not at all unheard of.

He lost it "gambling" with the bank's money. Unauthorized trades that are way riskier than the bank would allow, and then more of them, trying to "win" back what was already lost.

Saw that... every Rouge Trader that gets caught says the same thing... that everyone does it and the owners urge it... then they're thrown under the bus when something like this happens... makes one wonder..

Did you tell me what Tang Soo Do is??
It's one of three traditional Korean Karate styles. Kind of 'old school'-more typical karate style than, say, the better known Tae Kwon Do. The latter is kick and leg-heavy, minimizing the more balanced hands activity.

JWE is in Pensacola measuring a new keel for a real jerk. That is what I think. And lets me have his login to post things.

So I did that and just wanted to say hello to people.

Apparently he gambled bank's money on Swiss Franc rise... the Swiss Franc was rising like a meteor for long time but then Swiss National Bank administratively limited Swiss Franc value and it dropped immediately to much lower value...

BTW, nice article here (yu can also see how the bloke looks like):

FWIW, I'll be competing in a Tang Soo Do tournament this weekend in N. Minnesota. Weapons (Bo), forms and sparring. Should be fun.

Leo "Apollo11"
It's lunchtime, and all the Union pukes are on 'break' so we're schlepping some enchiladas and doing some down time. See that MO's been out there, so thought I would hijack myself back.

Job is fabulous. It's a dream come true and will open a lot of new doors. I get to be as iconoclastic as I wish, and think (hope) I can get a boat out there with my particular views as to shape.

MO is refering to old history. First time I did this was doing a new keel design for Doug Mungeon. It was costly and Doug couldn't get insurance to pay for it. So there was this Catalina Island race where we burried him in the Isthmus hole and were miles ahead of him at West End, and we were quarter mile ahead of him at the bight. Doug's Swiftsure rated -21, our Shadow rated 17. He was pissed and talked his tactician (from a sail loft that will forever be nameless) into running the boat hard up onto the San Juan Rocks (which every 12 year old from SoCal knows where they are).

"Damn it xxxxx, I broke my keel!"
"Ok, let's take it to Dana Point Shipyard and get it hauled out. Maybe we can get a new keel!"

And so he did. Big boat sailors know this story very well. Doug marched to a different drummer back then. Most people nowdays aren't quite so cavalier with the rules, but when $hit happens to them, they do tend to recall Darling Douggie and his magic new keel.

MO is just being a little pissy. He takes a cynical view of big boat owners. But just because somebody runs their boat up against a bar, and needs a keel job, doesn't mean they meant to do it. [;)]

Ciao. John

Asleep at my feet right now. On a double long leash and loving every second of P'cola. Little boy widdles a bit on each and every thing that comes within his radius. The workers love him. They go "way down! look out for the dog!"

Would you like some pics?

Always! [:)]

It has been 14 years since I moved from P'cola, when I left the Navy. There are a lot of great parts to that area. Next weekend, I'm meeting up with two old, retired Marine buddies who I have not seen since I left there. [8D]
