NorPac: Dutch Harbor waits on the USS Houston. Some shuffling of air squadrons to meet possible threat from Adak is done.
United States: San Francisco awaits the arrival of the Arizona for repairs. She is making good time. San Diego awaits escorts for transports.
SoPac: Hiva Oa: The 135th USA base force loads for DROPSHOT staging area. Fuel is starting to accumulate again. The 47th construction Rgt and 808th EAB wait for transports.
Pago Pago: The IJN has concentrated submarines here. 52 ships lay at anchor with more at the docks and underway. The fast attack groups will arrive in 36 hours. The Army Air Corp has a 75 plane CAP to assist the USMC over the island. B17s and B24s ordered to hit the Fiji’s again tomorrow. After the sweet raid in Burma today I order some on port attack as there are IJN warships in the harbor. P38s will sweep the Fiji’s from the Tonga’s. Norfolk Island prepares to relocate (N-Force) to New Caledonia. APD Waters forces I-6 to the surface and finishes her off. There are no survivors. I-23 is hit as well but only slightly.
CenPac: General Quarters on Tabiteuea. IJN cruisers spotted bearing down on the island. Forts go to 2 and the AF as well. The Taney and Teal depart Baker for the Reef Islands. Pearl Harbor: SoPac command, under Ghormley boards transports for Pago Pago. Fuel is right behind them. 100,ooo pts of additional fuel and supply should reach Oahu soon. I hope to have 1,ooo,ooo each before the next Ops in CenPac begin. The Long Island is 40nm to the sw of Pearl and will ferry planes to Tabiteuea tomorrow.
Burma: Recon spotted IJN shipping in port at Rangoon on the 24th so I ordered the first two operational squadrons of B17s to fly from forward bases in India on a port raid. P38s swept first to no resistance. The raid was a smashing success and should be a harbinger of things to come. Mines are still in the river and I hope we get a leaky sneaker on the way out. Night raids over Prome are a miserable failure. At least it keeps some Zekes busy.
China: The IJA enters Kienko. Not good. Trying to shift my lines and cut off all his supply to the spearheads. P39s join a squadron of Warhawks against the relentless bombing campaign.

SoPac: DROPSHOT area: Latest recon over the objectives: Nadi: 1-unit (3080/30=103av x 2 =206av (jungle)). This is probably high as there were quite a few aircraft being serviced here. Suva: 4-units: 16,260 troops/542av unadjusted. 89-guns. DL is 9/10 on both. The 132nd Rgt begins to load tonight. It will be followed by the 164th, 182nd, 754th tank rgt. This is the initial lift. I should be able to unload all combat troops on D-Day with an expected av of 443 on Nadi where I realistically think IJA av to be around 60 unadjusted. The North Carolina is detached and ordered to Sydney for repair and rearming. She shows 4-major float damage. In New Zealand, the 21st pioneer C and 2nd RNZ BF awaits RADM Boyd who will break his flag on the Perth tonight and head to Auckland for escort duty. The New Zealanders will head for Noumea and establish a base for search aircraft.
SwPac: A large IJA force is spotted SSW of Darwin. More later. B17s are staging to hit them in the open. I am trying to smuggle supply under the jap noses on Horn Island to Darwin. They are down to 30,ooo.
CenPac: The Long Island arrives Pearl and loads VMF-211 and VB-8. She will ferry them to Tabiteuea. Can I fly them off when the carrier is overloaded?? I’d like to stand off 600nm and fly them in. Not to mention I have not constructed a pier yet. The IJN most likely laid their mines yesterday as the cruisers were seen egressing in the afternoon to the NW.
Burma: Indian Ocean: Prince of Wales leaves Colombo for another run on Diego Garcia. Four RN BBs are 120nm NNW of Diego now, unspotted, and will hit the island tonight. The IJA concentration due east of Akyab appears to be trying to infiltrate across the river to NE of our positions. The RAF is going to try and hit them in daylight with US fighter cover. The entire B17 group is assembled in southern India and will begin to hit strategic targets (air fields, ports, and troops in central Burma) very soon. I do not want to risk strategic bombing as it could back fire on me at this point.

Chunking has about 1800av but it is mostly broken units trying to recover losses from the spring. I have begun to pull units from the Yangtze line, but it may be to late.

With the road cut to Ankang, his supply can't be that great in the central plains unless he stockpiled at Ankang before you cut the road, or unless he's using most of his available transport planes to help out. You'll find out how good (or not) his supply situation is soon based on his pace of ops. If he can bombard every turn that he's not conducting a deliberate attack, you're in trouble. If he can only attack every three or four days, then you're probably still in trouble[:(], but you may be able to hold quite a bit longer.

CenPac: Supply and fuel will reach Pearl tonight. The old BBs of battleship division 1 drop anchor for minor repairs. The Long Island is well to leeward.
SoPac: The 164th begins loading for DROPSHOT. The North Carolina escapes through the IJN sub screen to the SW and the yards in Australia.
Australia: B17s are ordered over the IJA SSW of Darwin. They crossed the river last night and are 45-40mi from our recon unit. A brigade of the 7th Australian reaches Melbourne last night and begins to unload.
Indian Ocean: The Royal Navy is attacked by carrier forces after their bombardment mission at Diego Garcia last night. We only spot one CVE but I suspect a second. Prince of Wales and two RN carriers are in rout from the NE and I anticipate an exchange in the next 48 hours.
Burma: Dacca airfield: B17s are ordered to go to Prome. P38s will sweep and ample recon assets are assigned.
China: Kienko hold on day 1 at a 1:1. The Chinese lose a lot more squads and we know what happens next.

SoPac: Heavies raid the Fiji’s. No ships in port or aircraft on the ground. The 182nd loads transports. N Detachment loses some men loading on Norfolk.
SwPac: The IJA is hit by raids in the open causing little apparent damage. More B17s stage in. Horn Island is hit by 2 squadrons of Forts and levels the empty airfield there. Merchants try and slip by the IJ and get to Darwin with supply. My SSTs are not in theater.

The 2 heavily wounded BBs are left alone but they make little progress and are still very vulnerable. Prince of Wales is ordered directly to the spotted IJN carriers. We score a couple torpedo hits and hope it hurts IJN Ops for tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Nice job on the CVEs. he will probably head to Diego Garcia or Colombo. I would bet Colombo.

I hope he heads for large over stuffed royal navy base on Ceylon. Diego Garcia is under the Japanese boot and a possibility, however I have put some hurt on the port and airfields there. Another BB from Cape Town is due to hit Garcia again in 48 hours as well. I think he either stands and fights because he knows something I don't, or runs for the first time. My orders for Prince of Wales are for a patrol zone which is shaped to protect my two damaged battleships more than threaten his naval assets. If I had thought it through a little further, I may have adjusted the patrol to make a daylight engagement more likely than a night.

SoPac: The 754th tank and 1st amphib. HQ loads.
Australia: Nothing flies against the IJA SSW of Darwin.
Indian Ocean: The Royal Navy is dealt a hammer blow in two days of fighting. Action on the 30th could neuter the Royal Navy for good. The Prince of Wales and escorts close on the IJN at night. Both sides are surprised at 1,ooo yards. The IJN lands critical hits in the opening salvo and four IJN destroyers savage the Brits. It’s like a rape and difficult to watch, capital ship succumbing to tin cans. The IJN did indeed bring more to the party as more assets are spotted in the morning. The carrier exchange wipes out the rest of the Royal Navies air arm as well. Less than 120nm separate the various task forces by dusk with the Royal Navy in a precarious situation. I can’t see anything close to promising on the 30th as more than one ship is reduced to a crawl with an IJN battleship spotted just over the horizon.
Burma: P38s sweep Rangoon and drop a fair number of A6M2s. We lose a couple but are at last bloodied in Burma after months of trying to get at the IJAF. The B17s lack adequate ground support at Dacca and wait for the a support unit which detrained in the middle of the jungle and have to march to the nearest railhead. Bonehead move.
China: The Chinese evacuating the Yangtze line fight an exemplary rear guard action on the left flank while the IJAF shifts to the center. An absolute deluge of bombers hits the center of the line which is disintegrating due to the hard left move of IJ forces which turned the line several days ago. There will be a colossal if not fatal Chinese counter attack on the right if all else fails.

Tough break on Force Z. They are beasts during the day, but at night, in bad weather, against a good Japanese DD force....Tough matchup, and even tougher rolls of the dice. If you finish off those CVEs it may still end up a fair trade, though.

United States: Orders are issued to 30th AAA, 13th Naval Construction, 3rd USMC Para to plan for Dutch Harbor. Units are reading for railhead north to ports of embarkation. The Arizona is due in port tonight for overhaul and repair. There is a lot to transfer to the Pacific and escorts are ordered east from CenPac.
NorPac: Dutch Harbor: Seabees speed the airfield construction but the project is still under manned. The IJ sweep with Zeros over Dutch harbor again but our boys take a day off. Maybe there are further intentions by IJ up north.
CenPac: The Long Island reaches point luck and launches Wildcats to Tabiteuea. She will return to port, refuel and set out again with another squadron. Support ships are half way to the Reef Islands to set up a seaplane base. The 118th USAF BF loads transports for objective VOLLEY.
SoPac: DD Gwin finds I-28 off Pago Pago, forces her to the surface and finishes her. There are no survivors. S-40 misses IJN transports off Milne Bay. The amphibious task forces close on objective DROPSHOT. We are at D -2. Three Rgts of infantry, reinforced by armor will make the initial assault. The 139th USABF loads at the staging area tonight. No sign of the IJN. We are unspotted at 480nm out ESE. The 2nd NZ pioneer Co is at sea in rout to Noumea. They have no escort. A RNZ base force is loading for Noumea as well. They will be escorted by cruisers an destroyers. N-Det is finished loading at Norfolk Island and should make Noumea first.
Australia: B17s hit the IJA for 379 casualties today. It is the best ground attack by the allies of the war. The squadrons here go to 12 planes with the August expansion. II Fighter command should arrive shortly to boost coordination and strike efforts.

Burma: It looks like a lone IJA unit crossed the river east of Akyab today and I order a two division counter attack for tomorrow. The B17 group takes additional planes expanding the group to 48 aircraft.
China: The bombing has shifted to the right flank of the Yangtze. Casualties are light today.

The admiral sits relaxed. The view from CenPac is spectacular, if not practical, as masts, superstructures, and cranes mark Pearl from the hillside. Progress on the Tennessee is notable as all of her structure above the water line has been repaired and repainted. The parked Catalina’s on Ford Island are surrounded by ground crews performing routine maintenance while several P40’s are serviced for training flights outside the rebuilt hangers. Several loose deuces of Wildcats scream through the mountain draw, the marines in the cockpits aware they will be steaming west on the Long Island to the Gilberts on Monday. Moral is high on the island. I observe the admiral with admiring eyes as he is the inspiration for this recreation of events now buried in history books, nary mentioned in classrooms anymore.
Adm. Nimitz is well aware the war was won and his role in it. This is merely an exercise in which he is a part. We have had long talks on the subject and he is resigned to his fate. There is no mutual respect. Beating the admiral on the tennis court does not equate to winning a war. I know he would prefer another to share fictitious gin and tonics and debate war strategy with. I am okay with this. Within the confines of a day in the war in the Pacific, I review the actions of the day before, check a few details, and hit the couch. This is when Zuluhour, CnC TWIT pays a visit to the front. Before me is my favorite character and sounding board. Strategy in the Pacific starts here.
