This really is one of the most entertaining World Cups of recent years. And this was more like the Ghana I expected to see. Now USA have a great chance to progress to the next stage. It all depends on which Portugal turns up for the game.

Best wishes,
Steve

Very entertaining second half.

Hope this game will be the eye opener for Germany.

Well, with Nigeria having to play Argentina next, there is a real possibility that Iran could qualify [X(]

Two interesting games coming up today. USA v Portugal and Belgium v Russia. Anyone here remember the Belgium v Soviet Union game 1986 World Cup? One of the best ever World Cup games. Edge of the seat stuff all the way.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TievrJlFh8M

If both teams can serve up something like that again I shall be very happy.

Best wishes,
Steve

That was a decent Belgian team.

Don't know who I want, USA, Portugal or Ghana? (I am assuming that Germany will take the other place).

Is Germany vs US the surest tie in recent times? are we in for a stinker? will German work ethic or American pride prevail over conformism, unethical fairplay, bad tournament format and mutual assured qualification?

What on Earth were the Americans thinking? Nine minutes to go and they are running the ball into the corners trying to waste time? Why the hell did they not just play football for crying out loud. They screwed up badly in those last nine minutes. But oh no! Try to waste time, bring everyone back into their own penalty area and just boot it up field to give the Portuguese possession.

A perfect example of how to screw yourself. Insanity.

Best wishes

Maybe you're too harsh [:)] Barricading yourself does not guarantee you will be 100% safe either.

Unlucky Portugal [:(] Their two strikers out (injured). Ronaldo is only playing at 20%-30% of his capacity (the knee problem). What's left then? A normal, average team, nothing special. They won't get too far I suspect.

If we keep things in perspective, for the Americans, grabbing 4 points in two matches IS a huge victory.

And every time England did it I was raging at the TV. At least England had the excuse that they could not pass, control, or hold the ball. An inability to play football other than hoof it and chase was a feature of England's play for many years. I would argue that emulating England at their worst is not a sane strategy for any team.

I may be being a little unfair on the Americans but I can't help feeling that they shot themselves in the foot.

Dutch looking good. But there is a long way to go yet.

Best wishes,
Steve

Oh.. that's that excitement over, Croatia have scored. Brazil will win the group and play Chile - leaving Mexico to play the Dutch. Mouth-watering......
