My second AAR (again)

The British take the opportunity offered. While the gain is likely to be short lived, the conquest of Bardia lets destroy the fortifications that protected the area.

Meanwhile, the Russian manage to capture a well defended Teheran.
The loss is worth the 3 oils that Persia will produce!

Bad luck is following the Germans with the weather.
As units are ready to invade Spain and Greece, the weather suddenly turns sour!
Stroms in the north temperate area, rains in the mediterranean...

Germany attacks a lone transport that brought a British infantry to control Algier on the first impulse. It successfully puts it out of order.

Even though the weather is bad for most operation, it is not that bad for submarine warfare : the storms prevent air operations, so that air units cannot interfere.

Germany chooses a combined action, so that it can move its subs around while still positionning some units. Sortying the fleet doesn't yet look like a smart operation.

In the Bay of Biscay, little happens.
But in Cape Saint Vincent, the german subs are found.

And destroyed.

In the north atlantic, the subs find some prey.

They do some damage, But they are forced back by the protecting cruisers.

However, considering the amount of unused British convoys, these losses are hardly enough to dent the British production: within the next impulse, new convoys will have replaced the lost ones. Only a massive attack as the one successfully done by the Italian once can really damage the British.

This picture shows 4 available convoys, but there are 4 others in Gibraltar... and 4 coming as reinforcement in the next turn.

Indeed, on their turn, the Commonwealth has just the time to move its ships and fillup the missing convoys before the turn ends! (roll of 1) ; a roll that doesn't favor Germany: Indeed, the spring turn was barely longuer than a winter turn! (3 impulses for each side)

The USA now choose to escort in the North Atlantic, and to pass an oil embargo on Japan.
Both options gives a tension pick, but indeed this is not yet enough to excpect a gear up in the next turn, as a lowly 1 marker is moved!


At the time of the oil embargo, Japan has 21 oil stored on map: this leaves some room for several major actions!

The turn was rather short, and little happened.
There were no significant losses.

German production is now soaring at 31, closely followed by the commonwealth at 29.
Other powers don't match these numbers by a large margin.

At the start of July, Germany launches its offensive on Spain.

The USA are rather unhappy (draws two chits >1)

The Commonwealth takes on the defense of Spain. The small Spanish fleet is welcome as reinforcement to the home fleet!

Meanwhile, on the German-Russian border, nothing much happens.

But Japan is rather annyoed to discover that Russia is sending all reinforcements in Siberia.
This is rather bad news: Defending both China and Mandchuria is a rather difficult task.
It would also make difficult most naval operations for when the inevitable war against the western powers begins.

In northern China, nothing much happens.
The Chinese don't feel like taking risks.
The Japanese don't feel that there is anything worthwhile to gain.
Both positions are pretty strong and difficult to change.

In the south, the Japanese have extended their line: Fukien is fully Japanese controlled and their units could now move north to close behind Changsa. Their still is a problem: supply is short in the South, and a HQ is missing to prosecute the war in an appropriate way.

Italy again launches its subs, taking the opportunity offered by mocing first: the British have not yet have time to reinforce.

They send a pack in the north atlantic, forgetting that now a Sunderland can scramble from New Foundland...

The British take a gamble and win : rather than protecting the convoys (0 box), the sunderland are sent to search and destroy the subs (box 2) ; the final result exceeds the amiralty wildest hope as the Italian subs are destroyed...

The German attack near Biarritz is an utter failure!
It fails to achieve any result and many Germans lay on the ground.

Dice rolls are rather unforgiving for Germany in this game! Should the rolls have been reverted (a 16 instead of a 6), the Germans would be now rolling victoriously and unscathed in the Ebro plains...

The dreaded 14 result on the 2d10 Assault CRT has ripped the guts out of many an offence. 9 bps lost leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.
