A sad story of (required) losses

- At least one Japanese cruiser (CA Atago) sank, maybe CL Jintsu too, or might follow soon

June2.42 EDIT: both CA Atago and CL Jintsu sank, this is confirmed

- Tomorrow there is going to be another battle; fingers crossed Repulse can hit the mini-KB
then time to leave these waters, as Soerabaja is now inside LBA range

It looks like you got their fighters pretty good.

If you TF with the Houston is at a port, can you put her in port to remove the air unit?

You are doing very well early slowing down the Japanese. [&o]
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing! :o

Houston is one hex west of Benkoelen, if by miracle it doesn't during the combat phase, I will recover the floatplanes

and yes, he sent lots of sweeps and a few unescorted Betties to Benkoelen; he saved his Kates for later

Houston is not going to survive with 99 fires. There will be no movement for her or unloading of anything. Scuttle her and save the 10% points and the captain.

April 2.42: Second bloodbath at Bengkoelen

Post by Jorge_Stanbury »

April 2.42

- Lots of fights, another slug fest, another battle than ended with too many Allied ships on the bottom

- Pretty much run out of fighter planes at Java, there is some relief coming but might arrive too late

- With honor preserved, I think it is now time to withdraw

These are the first battles; Dutch vs the same TF that fought yesterdat

RE: April 3.42: More losses

Post by Jorge_Stanbury »

on the other Indian ocean, results were even worst!

- CV Formidable, which was moving to Java, ate a torpedo... damage is not that terrible, but I won't risk it in a damaged state; so the plan is to get closer to Java, so that its squadrons can fight (and probably get depleted) at Java

- BC Repulse ate 4 torpedoes from mini KB.. it is a goner now

- Ramillies, Resolution also torpedoed, we will see how many "R" BBs survive, with good luck maybe a couple

- silver linen: he cancelled the invasion, the TFs moved north.. that is why Repulse got torpedoes. I was not expecting him to move north, but to keep moving south or stay close to Benkoelen

April 15.42: Updates

Post by Jorge_Stanbury »

Long days at work because of Coronavirus, which meant I barely had time to play,

Date is now April 15.42; what is new?

- He successfully invaded Java, he did a smart move; he first took Denpasar, parked LBAs and then he invaded Banjoewangi (SE tip of Java). I sent pretty much all the "ABDA" air force to try to stop it, but results were laughable, not a single ship hit, and costly at dozens of planes shot down. He landed 2.5 divisions, and I decided to sail away 2 USA brigades I was planning to send as reinforcements. The island is doomed, but I am happy I was able to keep it for so long

Sumatra:
- I still control the southern tip
- In the last slug fest (early days of April), I lost capital ships: Repulse, Royal Sovereign, plus cruisers: Houston, Boise, Marblehead, Emerald, Glasgow, Sumatra, plus 7 DDs. He probably lost a CL and a few destroyers, but he had to cancel his invasion. Instead it seems that he is walking from the North. I haven't seen yet any big LCU, not yet.
- He captured Padang with tanks and para troops. He is walking to Benkoelen. Maybe he will try again once he controls Benkoelen?
- I still have 2 CAs, 7 CLs and 7 DDs at Oosthaven, these are in relatively good shape, I don't think I want to use them in a surface battle, but they will remain there until I finish my evacuation of Sumatra. I am evacuating base forces; the British/ Indian division and brigades, plus supporting artillery/ engineers, will stay and fight and die
- Palembang is at fort level 5.58 if he keeps delaying it might reach level 6. Supply is not an issue because I dumped more than 200K, of which I still have 180K (This game is dababes, refineries won't build supply)

Burma:
he has been advancing, steadily, up until this turn this was a "dead" theater with barely any Allied activity

- 3 turns ago, he captured Magwe, which was the trigger for the start of air operations. but due to poor weather on days 1 and 2, there were no attacks

This last turn, we finally got good weather and with it the start of air operations in eastern India

Results were good, Magwe (L3) airbase at 56% damage; it will probably take another turn or 2 to close it, then we will go after the "gold"

and air losses:

- mostly British bombers, in general terms this is "money well spent", as closing the oil tap at Burma is tremendously important

- Combat debut of P-38s... it didn't shine

Is closing the Burma Oil that important? I feel like Japan can run the economy off all the other oil centers, the Burma Oil is just a bonus. It's also way too easy to bomb, so there isn't much chance of it being relevant in the long run anyway.
