Name the ship that used her scout planes to set a new style in warfare by successfully bombing tank columns with depth charges, whose fuses had been altered to detonate on impact. [X(]

Close.

The scout planes, maintaining eight hours of flying time daily, struck at other fire targets, and also kept up antisubmarine patrol. X's planes located an enemy battery which had been firing on the destroyer Y, and eliminated it with two well-placed depth charges.

Extraneous has done a lot of research on Operation Torch so I'm pretty sure its from there. I'll have one more guess then - Tuscalooosa?

Yeah, I know the answer but cheated.

Keep going there are only 50+ USN cruisers to go through[:'(]

During "Operation TORCH" there are only 2 Cruisers in Cruiser Division 8 (CRUDIV-8)

[:D] So at this time you have a 50-50 chance [:D]

FYI: I was curious and looked it up the weight of the depth charges.

Scout planes and destroyers use the same depth charges.

Hyperwar's Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships ~ USS Savannah (CL-42)

On the morning of the November 8th, Savannah commenced firing against Vichy guns near the Kasba, which had been firing on the landing boats. She also temporarily silenced a battery, which had opened up on the USS Roe (DD-418), enabling the destroyer to avoid disaster. By the next morning, Savannah's six-inch guns had scored a direct hit on one of the two 138-mm guns in fortress Kasha and had silenced the other.

During that same day, Savannah's scout planes set a new style in warfare by successfully bombing tank columns with depth charges, whose fuses had been altered to detonate on impact. The scout planes, maintaining eight hours of flying time daily, struck at other fire targets, and also kept up antisubmarine patrol. Savannah's planes located an enemy battery, which had been firing on the destroyer Dallas, and eliminated it with two well-placed depth charges.

Greenland?

I think the USN might have repeated the aerial depth-charge trick during the Sicily landings, against a far more dangerous armored column. The USAAF still had it's head, uhh, elsewhere, as the GI Joes might have said, during that invasion. ? I wasn't clear if the reference was to the battle around Gela, or the earlier use in North Africa.

What was the first USN ship hit by a missile?

no, not Brooklyn. Before Anzio. By Anzio, the USN had the first anti-missile jamming devices on Destroyer Escorts.
