Forts at Vinh are only level 3, that's good news. Also your attack went rather well all things considered. Let's hope you manage to trap all those units!
Very nice air raids at Singapore and Soerabaja. Really hoping it's not a sync bug
Very nice air raids at Singapore and Soerabaja. Really hoping it's not a sync bug
RE: 1944 August 23
I've had sync bugs before but never looked into the instances in great detail. I don't know if they totally change all combats or just some, or one, or what. I know the sync bug hit at least one of the Singapore port strikes because they were the only B-29 missions for the day and my combat report did not show any lost air to air. But I figure with the various strikes that went in they had to get some hits in either alternate universe! [:D]
All 500 pounders so the strike will serve to dampen the enthusiasm of any ship they got.
Vinh is a little hard to analyze because I don't know how many units are moving or which ones. I am happy with the results. The objective of attacking now instead of waiting for the other infantry units just leaving Hue is to slow down the withdrawal as much as possible. Combat comes after movement so I know it won't affect the current turn's movement, but increasing disruption and fatigue and reducing morale does slow down units, so I'm just throwing things at them.
Here are the strikes. I misquoted earlier - one B-29 lost air to air and one to flak (not two to flak).

I doubt Hanoi and Haiphong can hold once Vinh falls, in fact you should be knocking on Canton and Hong Kong shortly.
But as always, waiting for the joy that will be Naha!

Here is a look at Vinh overall, and a close up of the three brigades. That big arty (4.5 inch guns IIRC) should make a difference.

Yeah. He's got a bunch of ships at both Hong Kong and Canton, possibly as bait for the flying circus boys he's got there. Also noticed he moved a bunch of SSX from Hong Kong to Kiungshan. Might be worth a raid to preempt them but the situation at Vinh is taking priority.ORIGINAL: Lowpe

RE: 1944 August 23
Just use ART and Tanks at Vinh, he can't really fight you there as I think the 10th Armored is totally shot. Just a supposition on my part, but then once he is out of Vinh your tanks will really run him down.
RE: 1944 August 23
Our B-29 did very well at Singapore going by the combat reports, but the day's plane losses show 8 lost air to air, 1 to flak, and 2 to ops. The combat reports showed 2 lost to flak and that is all, so I think we had a sync bug. At any rate, many hits on warships were obtained (provided the combat reports are accurate enough). See below. Predictably, the P-38 sweeps followed the bombers, perhaps to make sure nobody could track them!
What altitudes did you have set? I haven't gone so far as to explicitly test it, but I seem to get much better coordination results (sweeps flying before bombers) when I bring my fighters down in altitude (usually 16k'-20k'). Sometimes they come in late, but it seems that many more come in first when I do this.
RE: 1944 August 23
Bombers at 12k and fighters at max (maybe 35k). There is no coordination between sweeps and bombing runs, though.

coordination was probably a bad term on my part. I was referring to the "desire"(?) that sweeps arrive first. As I said, I've moved my fighters down to the 16k'-20k' and it seems that the sweeps arrive ahead of the bombers far more often (though not always[:(])

The Imperials held NW of Vinh despite very heavy casualties. Our armour in Vinh suffered many damaged tanks to keep the pressure on.
Heavy CAP over the battle hex NW of Vinh turned back a Judy strike. One of our divisions NW of Vinh needs to rest, but only one armored unit has adequate supply for a full attack. They will attack alone to inhibit enemy recovery while the remaining units rest and gather supply. Many C-46A transport planes that have been flying supply to Uttaradit (to enable LRCAP protection of this push) will now drop supplies directly into the battle hex. Within Vinh the two armoured units that attacked will rest while all other units attack. It looks as though whatever Imperial units are withdrawing from Vinh will escape in the nick of time.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
