The Houthis snagged one of our underwater drones (REMUS 600) on Monday. The Iranians will no doubt field a copy by Spring.

UUV snatching could be an interesting scenario, but we need more UUV in the database.

The Pterodactylus-II (Wing Loong II) UCAV has passed validation tests and seems to be mass-produced now. Customer still is unknown. Maybe it will serve the PLAAF even.

I would be surprised the report on seven planes is completely true. Yet, "The ministry said two Russian service personnel were killed in a mortar attack on the base by rebels, according to TASS." has to be embarrassing to Russia.

According to Kommersant, who cite two military - diplomatic sources it's true and dispute what MoD came out with.

MoD is saying that two soldiers died, and that the planes were only damaged and not destroyed and released a couple of pictures.

The Kommersant report also reports that a mortar struck an ammo container. It's possible that it exploded and caused the damage to the planes.

More importantly, the Russians have gotten rid of the Syrians who were handling perimeter patrol and have replaced them with Russians. (https://lenta.ru/news/2018/01/04/defence/)

That is a very suspicious looking photo over there. This one looks too clean to puncture the fuel compartment, more like a bullet shot. And second where’s the air pressure to squeeze out the fuel (unless there are more than 1 hole)?

But that’s is an interesting damage nonetheless, does CMANO has the fuel leak system for damaged units?

To make air defense even more complicated, China has reopened the M503 flight route for allow Chinese airliners to go alongside the Taiwan Strait. This can relieve the air congestion, but at the same time turning them into meat-shields for potential campaign of unification:

New batch of Type 054A seemed to have been equipped with a new jammer/EW suite, judging from the difference of the new active jammer emitters to the older (left).

Does anyone here seriously believe anything the russian MoD or TASS says or writes.
Come on, those are the same guys that talked about self defense forces on the Crimea.

Putin is ex KGB. Lying about something is part of the KGB standard procedure.

I would go for the 7 planes here. Maybe no full loss, maybe only damage. But if the Russians show pictures, these pictures most certainly do not show the truth unless proven otherwise.

It looks like the PRC has plans to establish an overseas naval base near Gwadar in Pakistan:

Pakistan has denied the reports that China has plans to build a base in their country.

LOL. This photos are not from MoD or TASS. This are photos from independent photographer.
And if you watch live report from Hmeymim you can see, that Su-24 "29 white" with damaged horizontal stabilizer is already repaired.

Interesting footage of KSA F-15 being shot down by Houthis. It seems the pilot saw incoming missile: the plane began to fire flares and switched to afterburn few seconds before impact.

I remember one of a CMANO scenario featuring the modern battle between Cuba and USA, there is a script that when F-15 is downed, the message log will comes out about its first-ever defeat. I dunno if it’s only triggered by air-to-air only, or how to write a script like this.

Spy satellite lost in space:

Not a lot of details yet. They may hit the news later today. Wonder if the intent was to park it over NK?

The news spreads everywhere, so does the F-15 debate. There is a forum that discussing the Saudi pilot’s ‘error’ is more likely causing the demise. The missile that the rebels used is R-27T - - an infrared seeking version of BVRAAM repurposed on an improvised land-launcher.

One of them had said that because the pilot was both deploying Flares and opening an Afterburner when an vampire was right on his six, he didn’t realized it’s a BVR missile, as he did both of these in usual routine against slower and short-legged MANPAD. The aircraft exposed a LOTS of heat signatures, which is actually helping the R-27T to chase it. What is worse is R-27T has huge amount of fuel for immediate acceleration to Mach 4 and Fuel-Air Explosive effect, which is further nailing the coffin:

It's strange that fact of the attack to Hmeymim airbase and Tartus naval facility by drones passed undetected by CMANO society. Here is russian-language text https://bmpd.livejournal.com/3040967.html. Summary: on the night of 5 Jan to 6 Jan air defence detected 13 pinpoints (small-sized targets). 10 of them are moved toward Hmeymim airbase and 3 to Tartus naval facility. 6 UAVs was overrided by EW. 3 of them landed and 3 crashed. 7 UAVs was shout down by Pantsir-S. There are no casualties or damage. UAVs used GPS navigation.

Pretty two-faced of Turkey considering they are buying the S-400 from NATO's primary adversary - Russia.

If I posted all of the "cool news" that came across my desk here, I'd be considered a spammer, so I wouldn't say that it went undetected.
