Germany did not need a big battle fleet. Her "natural" enemies were France and Russia, both of which were at hand to be beaten by her army. Germany was herself to blame for driving the British into the arms of the French, even though those two countries hated each other.

I am going to start singing Johnny Horton

"North to Alaska................"

Or Stan Rogers

Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage
To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea;
Tracing one warm line through a land so wild and savage
And make a Northwest Passage to the sea.

A Stan Rodgers fan! Someone who knows "The Mary Ellen Carter", "the Idiot" and dozens of his other greats?! [:D][&o][&o][&o]

Afternoon Delight
The Starland Vocal Band

Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight
gonna grab some afternoon delight.
My motto's always been; when it's right, it's right.
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night.
When everything's a little clearer in the light of day.
And you know the night is always gonna be there any way.

Sky rockets in flight. Afternoon delight. Afternoon delight.

Thinkin' of you's workin' up my appetite
looking forward to a little afternoon delight.
Rubbin' sticks and stones together makes the sparks ingite
and the thought of rubbin' you is getting so exciting.

Sky rockets in flight. Afternoon delight. Afternoon delight.

Started out this morning feeling so polite
I always though a fish could not be caught who wouldn't bite
But you've got some bait a waitin' and I think I might try nibbling
a little afternoon delight.

Sky rockets in flight. Afternoon delight. Afternoon delight.

Please be waiting for me baby when I come around.
We could make a lot of lovin' 'for the sun goes down.

Sky rockets in flight. Afternoon delight. Afternoon delight.

Repeat chorus.

Yes, we know...
Also sad, that the chance to ally again with the Tsar wasn't used. The three emperors alliance would've been strong enough to win the war. Who needed the Ottomans?

She did if she wanted a world wide empire (which she aquired to justify the fleet). Imagine if she was friendly to her traditional ally (England) instead of antagonizing her? [:)]

Well, but our Emperor used to be again and again at his grandma's house when he was a child. There, he'd seen the RN. He consequently wanted those toys as well!
Who wouldn't understand?
And who wouldn't understand that there's barely something more beautiful than a battlefleet? (Maybe a women, but only maybe! [;)])

I don't think having the toys was the problem. I think that conveying his eagerness to use them Got the British nervous. [:D]

Wilhelm was always feeling inferior to his English family. Read Dreadnought for a good portrait of him.

They were a summer replacement show. Unlike Glenn Campbell,Jerry Reed and Jose Felisiano , they didn't catch on (I was 11 I think, still living at home with my parents--their TV, I had to watch what they watched--that's why I discovered books!). [:D]

But Uncle Eduard VII. has to respect me!!!

It also was the plan to force the Brits into an alliance by this. That wasn't THAT unrealistic, as this ships indeed forced the brits to alliance themselves... with the Japs...

The problem is the operative word..."forced". Nations, like people don't like to be forced into anything. [:)]

You'd probably like some friends of his, a group of Maine singers called "Schooner Fare", they did a bunch of his songs.[:)]
