I played 14 turns of the demo tutorial today.  I like the interface.  I do like the platoon command level but you have to be careful what you tell your platoons what to do or a section of tanks can venture off too far.  I had a crash at 13 when i plotted artillery.  I was able to resume with the autosave.

One part I did not like was that my panzergrenadiers would dismount and become suppressed from 82mm mortar fire while the HTs kept on going..  it took me 7 turns to get them back into their APCs.  I understand that this has to do with the mechanic of tank riders jumping off their tanks when under fire.  This needs to be fixed where it does not happen for HT mounted troops.

With the right settings and little learning curve Ive had no trouble keeping track of the game. In the winter defense scenario everything went perfectly according to my plan. 45mm ATGs fired at the germanic invaders from right flank while platoon of T-26 rushed at them from the left flank and ATR fire rained upon them from the front and mortar barrage from above. It was quite fun to watch the german vehicles get hits and blow up one by one.

For record I have to say I didnt really like either of the previous PC games. I tried hard but things like reaction turns and lack of infantry immersion killed it. This game though seems to draw me in and I dont even have to try like it.

What settings do you suggest I use to better keep track of what is goig on?

I would make sure that the floating icons are on - use the i key to toggle them. Also make sure that verbose messages are on in the options screen.

Then after playing a turn, rewind the replay and spend some time looking at what's happening. Use Shift Click on messages in the message log file and it will rewind to just before that event.

Also click on the camera button to DISABLE jump to kills, that one still throws me off when i forget to turn it off and i'm jumped half way across the map.

just my opinion of course.

thanks

It's comforting to know that most everybody else is having there .... handed to them on a platter in the tutorial[:D][:D]. It's usually just me. I would agree with the thought expressed above that a tutorial should be somewhat easier. One is trying to learn the nuances of the interface, etc. Having said that I will also say, a very impressive game!

I just ran the first few turns of the tutorial using the commands given IN the tutorial and I lost 2 tanks and the other 3 routed. On easy.

Hi hgilmer3,

Yes, it turned out the tutorial was a bit too hard! Sorry about that, we just had too many experienced players testing it. We're going to release an updated tutorial in the update demo, but in the meantime please head your Panzers towards those AT guns to start with using Bound. That should help.

The Soviet mortar barrage on Turn 1 is being moved back a few turns as well. In the meantime, try to get those halftracks and panzergrenadiers out of the bombardment zone as quickly as you can, then pick up the script again.

Regards,

- Erik

That's the crutch for you folks isn't it? Making the tutorial challenging enough for players so as they don't think the AI is dead but not so much that it frustrates them either. I played the tutorial for a few turns and then jumped right intoBattle for Voin. Taking a long time to move across such a big expanse. I'm thinking things are about to get hot though.

I tried the demo again as promised. Unfortunately my view about the game hasn't changed too much. The game is just not my cup of tea. There are other Matrix games to purchase tho... [:)]

Each to it's own. But I think this game will grow out to be one of the best wargames ever, given some more time.

Also running the replay on half-speed will really help to notice all details.

Its interesting that it works in this game without breaking the sound. In CMx2 and Total war they either had to go without it or offer it without sounds.

Ah, yes, especially when you're first getting used to what's going on in the game the half-speed replay helps. And i still use it when i'm watching for something specific to happen.

Thanks
