T52: more tragedy. Far has raced north to include more troops in the pocket(s). I had to use this zoom level to get it all in the same
picture.

Ordinarily, I would resign at this point but I kinda want to see what heppens next and I'm curious to see if the Soviets can recover from this bad situation.  Probably
not.  What do you guys think.........Is this situation a game ender?

EDIT: This is the stuff I have in Stalingrad that needs to be moved yet:

Anyone who followed Larry on the TOAW forums has to admire the guy for his "never say die" approach to all the games he plays.

Talk about the school of hard knocks, but I hope the lesson learned is that in WITE having tactical, operational and strategic reserves is the key to the game. If you have them, you can influence the outcome of any battle; without them, very bad things can happen.

The "Slab" defence looked impressive, but under 1.05 with the new entrenchment rules, the game does simulate very well the fragility of the Red Army in 1942, as Larry has found to his cost.

As to whether it is " game over" depends on how much manpower and equipment he takes out of the Red Army with those encirclements; if more than 2m get bagged then it will be a long, long way to Tipperary/Berlin. He is still a long way from the Decisive Victory threshold, but Larry will have to do really well to get a draw.

edit: You also need to fly as many recon missions as you can, as you have to know where the enemy's reserves are and where they are moving to.
It's only a Game

Yeah, so far this game has been an example of how NOT to play the Soviet side.  I'm still new to this game, sortof, and I'm still learning.  One of these days I'm going to get good at this.  I just need some practice against the better players.  Which is anybody I've played so far.

Here's what's happening in the deep south. I'm trying to get into a better position to go for broke in breaking out of this pocket and
Far is probably making plans to seal the pocket better etc. His supply situation might be better than mine in this area so I'm thinking
about breaking off contact and just pulling back to better supply. Besides.......he's sneaking up on Stalingrad. Everything is railed
out of there already buy maybe he doesn't know that yet. Or maybe it's a team pride issue for Far. I'd go for it if I were him.

on Turn 34, your opponent had: 3.47M Germans + 1360000 dead.
on turn 51, your opponent had: 3.88M Germans + 1590000 dead.
This suggest that the Germans got some 630000 men during this period.

On the other hand, from turn 34-51, there're about 330000 Germans arrive as reinforcements. During those turns, the German can recuit 15000 men/turn at most( including disabled ). This means that your opponent get 100000 men from nowhere or he got 100000 Axis Allies killed.

Is there anything wrong with my calculation or there is a problem with the screen shot?

Um.......so um........I've heard bad things about the numbers coming from the Land Combat Losses. Something about it includes the attrition losses along with battle casualties for the Axis side only or something like that, maybe vice versa. So it wouldn't surprise me at
all if the numbers don't make any sense. On the other hand, I'm watching in close up, front row seats, as Far executes a magnificant
breakthrough manuevor. I can't fault him on anything about it, the direction(s), the amount of force applied, or just about anything.
I did notice an ability to break the pocket on the rare occasion but for the most part, he's doing what I wish I knew how to do. I'm
learning just watching him do it to me.

EDIT: This reminds me of my game with Pelton. Short though it was.

I did some pulling back just south of Moscow. Far is sneaking up on Moscow from the south and I need to block him somehow.

Here's the Stalingrad situation. Far has multiple small groups of units out gaining ground. I'm pretty sure they are past the limits of their
supply range and are running on fumes by now. I'm much rather protect Moscow right now than chase after phantoms.....but on the other
hand I do want to limit the Axis advance down there somehow. After all the recent losses I'm down to about 5/8 of the Armies I had just 10
turns ago and I need to try to form a front line where there is a vacuum now. I'm guessing Far has designs on Moscow about right now.
So it looks like I'll need to concede the south to the Axis and concentrate on protecting Moscow with what's left at hand.

It looks like Far pulled back......probably giving up on the advance....maybe to straighten his lines up and save the Panzers for further
adventures, perhaps somewhere else, maybe right here after a short breather. I'm going to try to keep up with the whereabouts of his
tanks from now on, in all my games.

It looks like I may have saved all those guys that were in an incipient pocket from last turn. Now I guess I need to get them moving to the
southeast and take up the slack from all those armour units there now. I'm planning on sending the tanks further to the southeast then
they are now just to take up a hex that's vacant now and not so much act as a front line, but rather more like a lite screen for now.
