The annoyance factor would be high. The Marianas move inhibits movement to Truk so the move protects SoPac and Eastern Australia. It can also allow reinforcements and supplies to the Philippines. With a move to Iwo Jima, it makes it worse for the Japanese.
Lowpe mentioned getting a lot of supply to the Philippines, which should make that area very dangerous for Japan. Lowpe can fly in B-17Ds and Cats for quick strikes and fly them out again. All they need is the Philippine bases and some supply. The bombers can go for oil in Borneo and even Formosa, the Cats on naval strike with torpedoes to hit IJ tankers. Few ground troops need to be sacrificed for this strategic bonus.

Dec 18th, 1941

Despite the losses in ships this turn I am happy with the turn...

I did get too aggressive with the British Navy, but will be ok I think.

Boise had run out of fuel, and I am amazed I managed to draw out her demise for a few days. I almost saved her.

IJN catches all the slow ships that were cut off at Java.

Marianas Invasion is not detected, south of Marcus...

Very happy here, but the subs are starting to proliferate.

Houston is just off Midway, met up with a destroyer...will now head for Portland/Seattle.

Gonna defend Rabaul with ships...the Pearl destroyers have arrived and there are a lot of bases to use them from.

Support ships for rearming and refueling are on the way.

Louisville missed the small task force that invaded Vanimo...but her Seagulls got in one hit.

I'd consider some suicide runs into Truk and Babeldoab with DD's to mess with shipping.

Not much IJ has this early to really punish the faster ships with high MVR - Betty/Nell have a hard time with torpedo/bomb attacks and there are too few Val groups to go around.

Bizarre move by the KB

He's ashore on Java, so you wouldn't be reinforcing, and he's sank a lot of stuff around the DEI already

He won't be landing in NW Oz this early and with such force, as it doesn't help him at all.

Unless it reverses course next turn, it looks like he's wasting his biggest asset there.

That CVL TF looks like mini-KB to me. I still think KB carried on to the NW toward Ceylon.

Significant part of the KB + CVLs/CVEs more likely. You can't have 350 planes in a mini KB at this point even with Kaga in tow. Then you also don't need full KB in the Indian ocean to smash any air that Brits have at this point

True

The Hermes plus a few biplane torpedo bombers isn't going to bother 3 CVs

But it would still mean less aircraft for operations though, and if he's going all out for India, then I'd be surprised if he's not taken the full KB

Pretty impressive speed...too bad their torpedoes have a high dud rate.

Anyhow, need to use them well to merit sending them over here.

You are seriously using full speed for off map movement? A decade after release? To each his own I guess.

This is a No HR game. Using game quirks is considered OK. The Japanese can put Jakes on the Glen subs too ...

Wonderful family wedding over the weekend! With family and friends coming from all over....absolutely great.

I was hoping to finish a turn off yesterday, but simply there wasn't enough gas in the tank to get it done, but just finished my turn and sent it back....knowing Japan, I suspect I will have a turn back this evening.

British cruisers are making a full speed run to clear the area...

Getting close to invading the Marianas...Odds are that he will spot the first invasion task force this turn...
