Michael I think something was lost in translation.... The Scottish are, both politically and geographically, British!!

im sure that Scots think that they are Scottish. not British ..
Warspite1

Yes of course you're absolutely right - "not a British Division" great clue [8|][&:]

No Commonwealth Division fought in Africa, Italy & France.

Closest would be The New Zealand Division which fought in Africa & Italy, 1st Canadian Div fought in France & Italy.

NO, a totally incorrect question.
51 Highland was part of the British Army and included a large number of English (and Welsh & Irish) soldiers.
It never fought as a Motorised Division beyond the normal British Infantry Division standards.

17th Bde's 2/5th battalion and 16th Bde's 2/3rd battalion. 6th Australian Division.

Kind regards,

Rasmus

I have, and am happy to get additions

6 Divisional Cavalry Regiment (In the PTO as 2/6 Cavalry(Commando) Regiment
2/3rd Australian Infantry Battalion
2/5th Australian Infantry Battalion

2/1st Anti Tank Regiment
2/4 Field Rgt

2nd Kings Own
2nd Queens
2nd York & Lancaster Arrived at Damascus at the same time as the Vichy French surrender
2nd Leicestershire

4/13th Frontier Force? I have it for 3 out of 4, did it fight the Japanese?
These Bns only got as far as Mersa Matruh in the Desert, dug positions and patrolled. I have seen a reference of a raid on Sollum but this would have been of minor size.
2/14th Australian Infantry Battalion
2/16th Australian Infantry Battalion
2/25th Australian Infantry Battalion
2/27th Australian Infantry Battalion
2/31st Australian Infantry Battalion
2/33rd Australian Infantry Battalion

Units of 5th British Infantry Division fought the Vichy French on Madagascar, Germans and maybe Italians in Sicily and were posted to India but on performed Garrison duties.
