I do have the benefit of a nearly intact Chinese industry, but that can't take care of both the Burma Army and the Chinese Expeditionary Army in combat in China at the same time.

An AAR hiatus while mom was visiting. Back to it now.

For the Empire's troop dispersal see the estimated current figures for this game below. Color indicates whether these areas are now controlled by the Allies (Blue) or by Japanese forces (Red). Sumatra and Malaya are mostly in Allied hands but the Japanese still hold key centres; Singapore/Johore Baru and Palembang to Oosthaven.

All of the areas with large troop concentrations on the mainland of Asia and in Japan are estimates, but in relative proportion of strength to each other. Korea and Manchuria are essentially treated as one in game so a lot of troops will be shifting soon as the Soviets prepare to crash across the border.

In Cent Pac forces are mostly just a few naval guards with a base forces. No IDs or arty or AA anywhere. I thought for a while he would go for Truk, but after extended bombing and some naval forces close by there has been no action there or near New Guinea in months. Ditto West OZ toward the DEI.

The Allies go for Hankow and Wuchang at night and during the day, closing Hankow. He's very effective when concentrated, but concentrating all of this power consistently leaves him open to some CAP/LR CAP. It is also limiting the Allies strat bombing potential. He's losing fighters and bombers to control the air in China, while not either moving forward in China or getting a better than 2:1 VP ratio consistently. On the 17th he did well.

I do get a good look at the Southern DS CAP from a few sacrificial Jakes. It's pretty stout, and my LBA probably will not fare well. I'll hold back and see if any opportunities present themselves. If the Allies surge forward now there isn't much to stop them.

On the 18th the Allies target Singers and get a good ratio in the air elsewhere. Again the Japanese pilot losses are low. I'll keep holding the air where possible and trying to defend while he decides what the next move is. Troops seem to be moving down Malaya in force toward Johore Baru.

Here is a map of the South. The Allied fleet look poised to move into the DEI and disrupt movement of resources back. Singers will continue for a good while thogh. Supply is fine and there is still industry and fuel to make it go.

The new Es are doing well in the fight against Allied subs. Develfish goes under today without even "electing to launch" at the IJ convoy.

Big sweeps and air strikes all over today. The Allies hit Johore Baru hard, pay a price, but do outlast the CAP to hit some planes on the ground and close the fields. All groups will rail to Singers now.

The Allied fleets move back toward Georgetown. A famous feint from Canoerebel. I've gotten very used to these, crack a beer, sit back and watch the Allies shift back and forth while waiting to do absolutely nothing. [:D]

Up North sweeps at Iwaki must not have flown and some bombing strikes get hit pretty hard.

I'd ram the straits as full of mines as you can. Almost certain of a couple hits if he sends his ships further south.

He' been sending sweepers ahead for a while now. I can add more on but the sweeps will be there so it's alomst pointless and likely will just result in sunk minelayers right now. I'm trying to concentrate on getting more into bases that I know will eventually be invaded. Dan uses his AM and YMS liberally and sacrificially on a regular basis.

On the 20th a massive all-out strike hits Nagasaki. I've been waiting for this to come at some point. The CAP is overwhelmed and the base hit hard. Ships are sunk but lucily most hit were big and only sustained damage (there were a lot in port to spread the wealth) so losses aren't as bad as they could have been.

Laer waves pummel the fileds and destoy dozens of airframes on the ground. It's a blow, but the positives are that there are still many good bases around Nagasaki and many good backup CAP groups that will fill in tomorrow.

The sub war heats up again. Several interactions, with one xAK hit by the Lamprey. Lamprey attacks again in the afternoon but this time suffers 32 hits and is sunk by escorts. [:)]

Another USN boat hits two mines at Tsushima. Mistake or recon? Time will tell.

Massive sweeps and bombing raids hit Hakodate and Nagasaki with minor sweeps elsewhere. It's not a great day for the Allies, although they do effectively target Manpower and some industry at Nagasaki. At least the defenders take their tithe on the day in spite of LR and bleeding CAP since the Nagasaki fields are a mess. I'm encouraged we could still defend it though. Almost 30 B-29s of all types downed on the day.

I'd caution against having ships disbanded in ports point blank. Much more sensible to leave them in a task force in the hex - less chance to be attacked and sunk in port, more chance to draw airstrikes into CAP and more flak value (ships in port have halved flak values).

It's a new reality for me that I have enough fuel to simply leave them in a TF all over the place. I have reduced overall numbers across the board in ports in the HI. Most ships are in the DEI or moving. Only a few needed for troop transport were in the most defended port in Western Japan. I lost mostly the small 10 knot xAK and some support ships. The better AK were damaged and just moved to other ports to patch up. I will use Tokyo and Osaka as ports to disband as the flak is so heavy there it should take a chunk out of whatever tries for those.

I hear you . I am doing some of that but I also feel they'll all eventually be sunk anyway. Those VPs are lost once they're built, really, if the game goes to the end. To me it seems to matter now what I can get for them.

If he ever decides to strike the HI with CV air to sink TFs it will be likely long after my CAP can defend them. Maybe now at least I can entice risky strikes against low value targets while keeping high value ships in TFs. All big 15/18 knot xAP and AK are in TFs, as are any combat ships left. The mini-KB has been seen by recon for months hanging around the inland sea.

He' been sending sweepers ahead for a while now. I can add more on but the sweeps will be there so it's alomst pointless and likely will just result in sunk minelayers right now. I'm trying to concentrate on getting more into bases that I know will eventually be invaded. Dan uses his AM and YMS liberally and sacrificially on a regular basis.

CR's...cautious and methodical approach to the game is well known. May as well feed in to it by putting mines out there.

Man am I ever discovering that to be truth. I have a large tendency to leave air squadrons on autopilot flying the same missions day after day simply because there are so damn many of them to have to issue orders to.

I'm particularly lazy with the Death Star. My bombing runs are massive overfill doing 250 runway damage because I am too lazy to want to issue orders selectively to hit more than one target at a time.

The "issue the same orders to all carrier dive/torpedo bombers in the hex" selections has become the only method I use in issuing orders to DS squadrons.
