Meh, the game is what the game is. It's as close to a simulation as I've ever seen, but it's not a 100% simulation.
There's probably 1000 things that the engine allows that real life didn't. No way to narrow down all of them.

I was under the impression that being disband only meant they were anchored and not necessarily docked at the port?

How many ships do you suppose the Allies had parked off of Normandy in June 1944. 40, 400, 4000? Probably port size 1. Yes, I am aware of the storm that did some damage and sunk a few ships but those Mulberry's are still there today and went up almost overnight. The Allied logistics and engineering resources available at this point of the war were almost unlimited. If there are enough dedicated support troops the Allies can do just about anything, anywhere.

Another concern is simply placing EVERY ship in a single hex. I cannot begin to guess the sheer numbers that are included when he moves 'everything' in ONE DARNED HEX. There could be all sort of different ideas here regarding maximum number of aircraft in a sea hex, some sort of arbitrary maximum number, etc...
Thought here?
I know you know how big a hex actually is in game. All of London and the surrounding area would be well within one hex in AE. There were maybe 25 airfields in this area hosting many hundreds of fighters, bombers and recon planes, most of the logistics centres of the British Empire, and some millions of civilians.
Speaking of naval forces, how much distance would one CV TF need with 3 CVs on average in it? They are all operating as closely as possible to maximise AA defensive fire, so no more than a mile or two apart. Say there are 4-5 of those in a hex of 40 miles on each side. Maybe in the middle of the hex. Some DDs and SCTFs in the forward part of the hex. ASW TFs patrolling the edges. Amphibs and supply transports in the rear areas.
Do you spread out the KB? [:D]
It may be frustrating, but think about it when you say "concern." Until you have figures supporting some kind of idea that the USN could not have operated as he is doing, (when we know Big Blue Blanket essentially did just this) what does it matter anyway? You're never going to get good naval search reports with 500 CAP in the air and 20 TFs whether they're in one hex or three. Does it matter? Are you attacking that hex? Is there some problem attacking a hex with everything in it as opposed to forces across several hexes? (I'd think the latter would simply dilute your strikes).
What is the problem?

There are some thing in the game that I wish simply couldn't be done. Here is an example of one that dates back to my match with Dan in the original WitP. In that game he took Iwo Jima (Sz-1 Port) and disbanded 1,100+ ships into the Port to protect them. No BS. That happened...
Take a look here:
Ok. So. You've got me curious. Is this a real gripe? How many ships could Legaspi hold in the outer harbour area? Any ideas?
Well, this is a note about Ulithi Atoll and a survey to assess how many ships the USN could anchor there at one time.
On September 23, 1944, a regiment of the US Army's 81st Division landed unopposed, followed a few days later by a battalion of Seabees.[13] The survey ship USS Sumner (AGS-5) examined the lagoon and reported it capable of holding 700 vessels — a capacity greater than either Majuro or Pearl Harbor.
Here is a comparison in size at same scale. Google maps/satellite at 5km scale zoom.
Size of port only relates to logistics of loading/unloading, so the facilities attached to land. Not the anchorage. Looks alike a lot of space here in Albay Gulf! [:)]

John, would you post a screenie of your top pilots to date? Gonna ask Dan to do the same. Just curious.

I get your point...
Probably the most clear point I've made in a while ... I'm sure my wife would agree! [:D]

They just don't last long in the IJN and IJA. Even if you give them a top ride... Thanks,

I've got about 3 dozen aces at 10 kills but they don't go much past that.
I get the Sam on May1st. That BEAST will immediately begin replacing the M8 on the CVs and we'll see how it does.

RE: April 1944
How long will it take you to replace ALL your CV fighters with the Sam? Might as well wait until that's done before taking on the DS.

I have production set at nearly 300. Have been shifting the existing M8 factories over to the Sam starting in mid-March.

Not being a Japanese player I have to ask. How much does it cost in your economy to accelerate production like you do? (And you got a pretty darn good grip on that) Is there a cost to be paid late war for boosting dates and numbers such? I have no idea how it works.

It is all about planning. Brought in Mister Frank 4-5 months early and have done about the same for Sam. Cost? I've dedicated a ton of research lines over to the development of the plane. Moving it forward month by month is never a sure thing but it has worked in this game. Shifting over the existing M8 production lines is expensive at 1,000 supply/plane. I was producing about 250 A6M8 so that is easy math there. Will think on your question more CR and sound off if anything more jumps out. Once Sam is out the best version of Tony and final--ROCKING--version of Frank is the focus.
