Another Amercian Sub sneaks into Attu and lays some mines. Very frustrating that I have aproximately 4000 mines at Attu and Wake, yet his subs wonder in and out with impunity! While I have lost a Destroyer and a PG to my own mines!
The SS Cuttlefish torpedoes another AP retreating from Canton Island...and I can't seem to find that darn Sub!
In another Allied Sub related succes, the SS Flying Fish puts a torpedo in to the AV Sanyo Maru heading towards Rabaul from Port Moresby.
Big 4 Engine Bomber Air Raid versus Attu; as usual only 50 % of my TONYS fly and for some reason none of my A6M3's fly CAP. Floyd begins to complain when I shot down several B-24s, but he still makes it through destroying over 15 Tonys on the ground (Fog of War hand under reported the loss).

The SS Flying Fish puts two torpedoes in to an AK south of Rabaul.
The replenished YAMATO, TONE, & CHIKUMA make a bombardment run at Baker Island and accomplish virtually nothing (69 casualties and 8 guns to show for several points of system damage). I had hoped to pocket the runway a bit and maybe destroy a few PBYs.

Floyd begins hitting the airfield at Myitkynia. About time, I was surprised that he hadn't been doing this for two main reasons: [1] to lower my supply and [2] to keep my Engineers bust repairing the airfield and not building up the fortification level!

Another raid launcxhed against Attu:
Day Air attack on Attu Island , at 92,34

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 8
A6M3 Zero x 6
Ki-61 KAIc Tony x 14

A6M3 Zero: 1 destroyed
Ki-61 KAIc Tony: 3 destroyed, 9 damaged

B-24D Liberator: 13 destroyed, 20 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
42 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Airbase hits 5
Airbase supply hits 5
Runway hits 30

PAUSE to RUN TURN....just can't catch up!

Floyd continues to attack in Burma with Wellingtons and LB-30's from Dacca, and it seems my Fighters arfe not responding well since there are no interceptions. My TONYs and TOJOs are in the next hex ranged at 4 and on 90% CAP...oh well.

ANother strike on Myitkiyina with a whole sentai of TONYs dedicated as escorts and again only 3 fly escort!

Day Air attack on 1st Burma Rifles Brigade, at 36,28

Japanese aircraft
Ki-61 KAIc Tony x 3
Ki-21 Sally x 11

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-49 Helen: 2 destroyed, 3 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
P-38G Lightning: 3 damaged

Allied ground losses:
32 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

I'm lucky I only lost 3 bombers!

Two IJA Tank Regiments continue chasing the defeated former defenders on Yenen and Shock attack them further west towards Kungchang!

Planes spot the USS North Carolina and possibly two other US Battleships up in the Aleutians
Alice Springs expanded its airfield to size 4...this is bad news! Pretty soon I'll see B-17s and B-24s flying from the middle of Australia. Good thing I have some Tojos and Tonys ready...okay so the Tonys are probably still a few days away!

Additional  iNfo (in other words opps I forgot something)

Forgot to mention in the last few updates the the 2nd USMC which had been leading the fight at La Foa is no longer there.
I guess he is planning on using it and some other troops to recapture Efate or Luganville.
I think he pulled the 2nd USMC DIvision out around Halloween.

The Dutch Sub KXIV avoids two ASW TFs and then slips a torpedo in to the IJN DD Fuyo, a member of one of these ASW TFs!

P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged

Allied ground losses:
25 casualties reported

Airbase hits 5
Airbase supply hits 3
Runway hits 46

A bad job by the Escorts; had the Allies outnumbered 44:13 even with a section of the AVG we still should have done better then equal loses!

Another large raid (85) of 4 Engine Bombers on Attu destroys over a dozen Japanese planese on the ground. Only 12 TONYs manage to take off and shot down only 5 of the offending American aircraft.

I continue to attack Allied positions on the Darwin-Alice Springs road to reopen LOC with my Tank Rgt, Mixed Bge and SNLF that were moving on Alice Springs. Although we achieve a 2:1 we are unable to force the Allies to withdraw and suffer over 1000 casualties to 82 for them!

My Tanks in China are stalled in another Shock Attack on the road to Kungchang.

Floyd makes another small attack on La Foa with only some of his troops.

Finally a succesful IJN ASW attack! But unfortunately it comes after the S-23 torpedoes a MSW at Attu, then suffers a direct hit and 4 total hits.
The Destroyer Fuyo torpedoed the other day, sinks in Singapore harbor.

3 Wellingtons attack the 55th Division soutrh of Mandalay, but today the IJA AF CAP has flown! 17 TONYS stand ready to meet them; they damage 1 Wellington and simply let the rest fly by and bomb the troops!

Another Air Attack from MAnadaly flies with only a hint of an escort (4 TONYs today) but luckily they slip past most of the Buffalos on LRCAP over Myitkyinna. (My TOJO sweep didnt fly either, but rhats another stpry).

In the PM Phase the 4 Wellingtons return to bomb the 55th Division and the 17 TONYs are still there, this time one of the bombers is hot down, but two of the fighters are damaged...they still bomb the IJA troops but miss due to the TONYs harrasment.

A small air raid informs Floyd of my mining operations in the Aleutians:

Ki-61 KAIc Tony: 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
B-17E Fortress: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged
B-24D Liberator: 3 damaged

Japanese Ships
ML Ma 4
ML Ma 3
ML Kurokami, Bomb hits 2,  on fire,  heavy damage [and is SUNK]
==================================================

Trying to force my way from Yenen to Kungchang I Shock Attack with my two Tank Regiments again, but the Chinese stand firm and I lose over 100 men and 10 vehicles (plus both units now have disruptions in the seventies!).

The Allies again launch a small attack at La Foa with only their armor, an RCT, and 1 Division and score a minor success.

An AK spotted up in the Aleutians is hit by a PB2Y!
Darn it for the # of subs and ships I spot I wish I'd get a few more hits!

The SS S-44 is finally corners south of Rabaul and sunk by IJN ASW forces! I've had 3 ASW TFs each lead by at least 1 DD circling the waters south of Rabaul trying to get hit on the three Allied subs I keep spotting there! But two direct hits from the IJN Destroyer Arare and a few other little hits send her down!
An Allied AK hits a mine in Noumea and is badly damaged.

At last one of my Sweeps is flown over Myitkyina, and 27 TONYS are met in the sky by 5 P-38G's of the AVG; only 2 P-38s are shot down and the rest escape with no loses to the IJA fighters. A second Sweep of 10 TOJOs also sees the AVG P-38's, but alas, the Americans refuse to engage.

Joy of Joys the S-38 is Hit by a HELEN flying ASW near Port Moresby! He has had two or three subs outside of PM and I keep trying to get them with 2 ASW TFs plus I have two good sentais of Helens on ASW (Experience 81 & 79).

But 3 US Destroyers put a hurting on the I-157 up in the Aleutians...hopefully she'll be able to withdraw.

Floyd keeps up with his eccentris habit of flying Blenheims at night to annoy different bases in Burma. He has done this throughout the game and only garnered 1 runway hit.

The SS Sunfish strikes a mine at Wake! About time I have 4000 mines at Wake and this is the 1st time one of his subs have run into one! I hope that damn sub sinks!

Once more Allied bombers from Dacca attack my troops south of Mandalay and once more I feel they got off easy!
-----------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Hold my horses, the S-43 torpedoes one of my MSWs at Wake! So even when I win I lose....arrrrggggghhh!

Many IJA Level Bombers from Darwin hit the Australian units which have moved in to the Darwin-Alice Springs-Charter Towers Crossroads, as a perlimanary to a major IJA Attack (See below then see pic following)

The Darwin-Alice Springs-Charter Towers Crossroads

Post by Coach Z »

We've been fighting over the control of this Crossroads for sometime now. I consider holding this point critical because it allows me to threaten Alice Springs; although I am no longer certain I will be able to take Alice Springs.[

The SS Sunfish sank! BANZAI!! (It hit a mine at Wake yesterday)
Also the SS Podgy which has been hanging around Tarawa takes a few damaging hits in the only other successful IJN ASW mission of the day.

Planes based at Yene raid the Chinese Airfield at Lanchow a small amount of dmage was down but no Chinese or Allied planes where found.

Another raid by 47 B-25s damages Myitkyina's airfield and "forces" the engineers to repair that facility instead of building up the fortifications...drat!

Plus more Bombers hitting Attu even in the Snow!

He keeps trying to take Hengchow with his forces from the south to try and break the siege of Changsha. He has many Corps "free" as he has been able to march tem off "the peninsula" after his failled attempt to take Canton. My 1:1 attacks fails to dislodge the Chinese today.

Where are they going?

Post by Coach Z »

Hmmm where can all these Allied combat units have gone?
Where have the 2nd USMC Division, the 40th USA Infantry Division, the 14th NZ Infantry Brigade, and a small USMC Raider Bn gone?

My guess...they're in Noumea planning to invadse Lugnaville or possibly Efate.

In the Malacccan Starits one of my ASW TFs find the Dutch sub K XII and score a direct hit on her!
Latter a VAL hits the SS Tunny with a bomb south of Honshu.
A good day for IJN ASW!

I don't think Floyd has realized that I am flying my fighters at different altitudes and I think he's planes/pilots are having trouble dealing with the TOJOS at 12-14k ft, when my bombers are flying at 8k ft and the ZEROs 10k ft. Because my TOJOs just ripped his fighters (especially the Hurricanes) to shreads.

An Allied sub chaser hit a mine off La Foa and sunk.
Also another Allied sub snuck into Attu and laid some mines. Again another base with nearly 4000 mines, plus two small (2 DD + MSW & PG each) ASW TFs and his subs move in and with virtual impunity. (Just a little frustrated [&:])

6 Wellingtons, escorted by 3 P-40E's attack the 55th Division (south of Mandalay) but are intercpeted by 17 TONYs!  2 of the Warhawks are destroyed but the bombers are unharmed and drop their bombs on the IJA troops.

American troops unload at Amchikita Island but shockingly in the Ground Combat phase there is no bombardment attackk from the Japanese BaseForces on the island!?! So I have no clue of what he landed with!

He suffered such heavy casualties on landing I'd love to know if I can push him off. My two Baseforces and Engineer units there don't have too many SNLF or Infantry squads, so if he landed with a division it doesn't matter. But if he landed with a USMC Raider or Para Bn or a regiment sized Army unit ...maybe I should try?
But since there was no counter invasion bombardment...which ALWAYS happens [right?] I got screwed!

WOW! Another hugely succesful IJN ASW Attack! The SS Trigger takes 3 direct hits and then sinks south of Rabaul.
Also the SS Podgy is found by an ASW TF including the famed APD-36 (2 sub kills alone to him) and hits it 9 times!
Nut an Allied ASW TF scores 6 damaging hits on the I-174 near Amchikita Island

More American troops unload over Amchikita Island, and another 100 casualties are taken by his landing force
Additionally he bombards:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Naval bombardment of Amchitka Island, at 96,36 - Coastal Guns Fire Back!

38 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.

=============================================
As I thought he does have all THREE of his newer Battleships up North. Hmmm I have the MUSASHI & the MUTSU plus a few heavy cruisers.
In the 2nd movement phase the Allies suffer another 100 casualties as they continue to unload over the beach at Amchikita Island!

=========================
These attacks have to be weakening CHnagsha's supply situation and demoralizing Floyd. He was very upset about not shooting down any of my fighters!
33Wellingtons and 21 LB-30 Liberators operating from Dacca hit my troops at Myitkyina , but my SALLYs and HELENs from Mandalay escorted by 9 TONYS hit his troops beseiging Myitkyina and cause over a hundred casualties.

There are several raids made against the port facilities and my troops at Luganville by a variety of 2 & 4 Engine Allied bombers from New Caledonia (Noumea & LA Foa).

Guns lost 18

WOW I almost got a 2:1 and reduced the forts another level!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Chinese up north hold off the two IJA TAnk Regiments pursuing from Yenen to Kungchang!

ThenFloyd launches another attack on Myitkyina. Once he does not reduce the forts and is upset. I think he is lucky for when I was receiving 0:1 results (just missing 1:1 odds, while his odds are often1:2 or 1:3) and having a similar number of attacking troops at Ichnag, I was taking consistently 2000 casualties, and he has yet to do that.

The day opens with more Allied troops unloading at Amchikita Island and 500 more casualties being reported!

Then the IJN DD OITE hits one of our own mines at Kwajalein! I can't believe thats the 2nd Destroyer I've had hit one of our own mines...at least this one didn't sink.

The daily air raid on Changsha:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Changsha , at 47,36

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 16
D3A Val x 15
Ki-44-IIb Tojo x 22
Ki-21 Sally x 43
Ki-48 Lily x 22

Allied aircraft
Hurricane II x 6
P-40E Warhawk x 3

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 1 destroyed
Ki-48 Lily: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Hurricane II: 3 destroyed, 1 damaged
P-40E Warhawk: 2 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
25 casualties reported

Airbase hits 12
Airbase supply hits 3
Runway hits 70

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Agitating Floyd further the only plane shot down, was brought down by flak. These runway hits will keep his engineers (and coolies) busy so hopefully they won't be building the fortifications back up!

Floyd then launches a huge air raid versus the troops on Amchikita Island:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on 105th IJN Base Force, at 96,36

Allied aircraft
B-17E Fortress x 11
B-24D Liberator x 103

No Allied losses

Japanese ground losses:
321 casualties reported
Guns lost 7

=============================================================

But then his bombardment TF is spotted and Rear Admiral Fujita who has been sitting off Kiska for days finally launches a strike from the famed carrier AKAGI and the CVL RYUHO:
---------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on TF, near Amchitka Island at 96,36

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 11
D3A Val x 15
B5N Kate x 30

Allied aircraft
Kittyhawk I x 7
P-38G Lightning x 13

Japanese aircraft losses
D3A Val: 6 destroyed, 3 damaged
B5N Kate: 6 destroyed, 18 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
P-38G Lightning: 1 damaged

Allied Ships
BB South Dakota, Bomb hits 2
CA Vincennes
BB North Carolina, Torpedo hits 4,  on fire,  heavy damage
BB Washington
CL Detroit

4 Good torpedo hits on the North Carolina! The two bomb hits on the South Dakota both "bounced" off.
==================================================================================
A few VALs and KATES stray and make runs versus a destroyer, a minsweeper, and an AK, but no hits are recorded.
But in the PM Phase:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on TF, near Amchitka Island at 96,36

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 11
B5N Kate x 3

Allied aircraft
Kittyhawk I x 5
P-38G Lightning x 9

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged
B5N Kate: 2 damaged

Allied Ships
BB North Carolina, Torpedo hits 2,  on fire,  heavy damage

Another 2 torpedo hits!
=============================================================

Then the SS Catchalot is found by the APD-36 and friends and suffers a few hits, but American sub chasers off La Foa catch the I-123 and hit her a few times as well.

My troops on Amchikita Island now bombard the invading American troops -two days late- and identify as members of the 147th Regimental Combat Team.

In NW Australia I force the retreat of more Allied troops in the "Fork Crossroads" Area.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at 35,94

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 11254 troops, 88 guns, 59 vehicles, Assault Value = 238

Defending force 1010 troops, 0 guns, 67 vehicles, Assault Value = 34

Japanese max assault: 171 - adjusted assault: 138

Allied max defense: 25 - adjusted defense: 33

Japanese assault odds: 4 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
14 casualties reported
Vehicles lost 1

Allied ground losses:
73 casualties reported
Vehicles lost 6

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

In and around Attu, the S-34 is found by an IJN ASW TF and hit 3 times
Down near Rabaul, the S-41 is found but escaping after taking only one damaging hit!

South of Tokyo the SS Amberjack fires at the DD Mikazuki, sinking her adn spotting the AKAGI!

Floyd has flown a Spitfire squadron to back the AVRG section and Hurricanes already flyingnout of Changsha; the results disappointed him (again).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Changsha , at 47,36

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 16
D3A Val x 15
Ki-44-IIb Tojo x 22
Ki-21 Sally x 41
Ki-48 Lily x 20

Allied aircraft
Hurricane II x 3
Spitfire Vb x 14

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 2 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Hurricane II: 2 destroyed
Spitfire Vb: 6 destroyed
P-40E Warhawk: 3 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
5 casualties reported

Airbase hits 2
Airbase supply hits 3
Runway hits 88

Although no P-40's took to the air we can see several were destroyed on the ground. I wonder what experience level his pilots are? My grouips are mixed between veterans in the 80's & 90's (a little more then half) plus several  young pilots in the 50's.
===========================================================================
I had planed a combined attack on Dacca, but only my fighter sweep was launched and 40 A6M2 ZEROS tangled with 18 Hurricanes, 16 Spitfires, and 10 P-40 Warhawks. At a cost of 7 ZEROs, 4 Hurricanes, 2 Spitfires, and 3 Warhawks were shot down. It wasnt worth, especially considering my strike from Mandaly didn't launch...the cat may be out of the bag.

The Wellingtons and Liberators from Dacca struck at troop concentrations at Myitkyina.

B-24's from Unmak Island sank another Minelayer in Kiska.
Also up in the Al;eutians my carrier planes put a few bomb hits in two destroyers and an Ak, as well as torpedoing an AK, but were unable to locate the crippled North Carolina, nor the other American battleships.

In the ground phase we saw many bombardment attacks, and over 300 casualties were taken by the Chinese sowering behind the crumbling walls of Changsha.
I was disappointed that my Deliberate Attack was "changed" to a bombardment attack at Amchikita. Hios RCT will begin recovering from its disruption and I will be unable to drive them off.
